Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the effects of the characteristics of apparel professionals on their attitude toward sustainability-related technology in the context of a developing country, Bangladesh.
Design/methodology/approach
A quantitative approach was used to investigate the apparel professionals’ perception of sustainability-related technology. A survey was conducted, and 204 valid responses were used in data analysis. The structural equation modeling technique was used to analyze the data.
Findings
The findings demonstrate that apparel professionals’ personal innovativeness positively impacts their knowledge of apparel technology. Knowledge of apparel technology and environmental issues in apparel manufacturing both significantly and positively impact their level of awareness of sustainability-related technology in apparel manufacturing. The findings also suggest that managers’ level of awareness of sustainability-related technology has a significant positive impact on their attitude toward sustainability-related technology.
Originality/value
Fishbein’s attitude theory was applied to examine how the various characteristics of apparel professionals (i.e. personal innovativeness in technology, knowledge of apparel technology, knowledge of environmental issues of apparel manufacturing) affect their awareness of and attitude toward sustainability-related technology. This study expands our understanding of the causal flow among cognitive variables of apparel professionals, including their innovativeness, knowledge, awareness and attitudes. The findings of the study can be helpful to the apparel industry to improve apparel professionals’ adoption of sustainable technology.

Abstract
Purpose
Given the substantial presence of the Bangladeshi apparel industry on the international stage, it is imperative to examine the sector’s technology adoption (TA) behavior. This study aims to understand the TA-related factors perceived by top apparel industry professionals in Bangladesh.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the technology, organization and environment (TOE) framework, this study used a two-step analytical sampling approach and conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with eight top-level industry professionals from Bangladeshi apparel firms.
Findings
The findings indicate that the technological factors include perceived benefits, technical compatibility, investment cost, and availability of training and technical support. Firm size, business scope, and financial viability were found as organizational factors, whereas buyer pressure, local and global competition, government policies, and sustainability were found as environmental factors of TA decisions.
Originality/value
This study provides practical and novel insights into the role of top management in TA within the TOE framework. By shedding light on TA in Bangladesh’s apparel industry, this research contributes to the literature.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to understand the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic on the global textile and apparel supply chain from the perspectives of industry professionals within the two leading production countries: Bangladesh and China.
Design/methodology/approach
Applying the theory of dynamic capabilities, a qualitative research design was employed using interviews with a total of 33 apparel industry practitioners, 15 in Bangladesh and 18 in China.
Findings
Findings indicate that four factors primarily impacted the extent to which COVID-19 disrupted a firm's supply chain: firm size, channel diversification, sourcing method and product type. Viewed through the lens of the theory of dynamic capabilities, findings point to the need for firms to address the challenges brought about by supply chain disruptions by creating opportunities.
Originality/value
It is important to understand the impact of COVID-19 in real time and within the two largest textile and apparel–producing countries globally, as they have borne much of the brunt of the supply chain disruptions brought on by COVID-19. This empirical study makes contributions to the apparel supply chain literature as it provides an in-depth investigation of what textile and apparel firms in China and Bangladesh have learned from the COVID-19 experience to better prepare for future unexpected global events.

This chapter examines the impact of this technological revolution across diverse sectors within Kuwait. From integrating digital infrastructure in urban development to the role of social media in political, health, and corporate realms, it provides a comprehensive exploration of digitalization’s influence. The chapter begins by highlighting Kuwait’s $10 billion investment in 2024, marking a significant step toward becoming a smart city. It investigates the evolving role of social media in political campaigns, demonstrating how digital platforms shape political narratives and voter behavior. In public health, the chapter underscores the Kuwaiti government’s strategic use of social media to disseminate vital health information, particularly during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, influencing public behavior and community engagement. Furthermore, the discussion focuses on Kuwait’s Vision 2035, examining how governmental social media campaigns mold public perception and awareness. The chapter also explores the private sector, showing how companies leverage social media for innovation, performance enhancement, and talent acquisition. Abstract
Purpose
This research aims to explore the role played by Ijara-Murabaha Sukuk in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) that adheres to Shariah principles into Pakistan’s oil sector. It focuses on the difficulties faced by the country in terms of payment for oil procurement. It highlights the recent collaboration with ARAMCO, Saudi Arabia’s national oil company, to establish the Gwadar Refinery Project. This project aims to enhance oil production, reduce costs and increase storage capacity.
Design/methodology/approach
Data was collected from 379 investors who participate in Ijara-Murabaha Sukuk through a questionnaire designed to evaluate how trade finance solutions, sustainability practices, transparency measures and governance structures impact FDI that comply with Shariah principles. The study also considers the moderating role of market conditions on these factors. Smart PLS 4 software was used to analyze their influence on creating an environment conducive to Shariah-compliant FDI.
Findings
The findings reveal that if the company prioritizes shariah-compliant foreign direct investment over conventional due to underlying productive activities ensuring economic growth as well as strong compliance mechanisms ensuring transparency, the multifaceted challenges associated with oil procurement, circular deficit, foreign exchange reserves and transparency problems can be solved. The groundbreaking analysis from this study will guide the major stakeholders while developing policies to convert the most expensive and massive budget deficit sector into a contributing sector of the economy.
Originality/value
This is a pioneering study on the application of Ijara-Murabaha Sukuk to resolve the problem of circular deficit of oil sectors of Pakistan by issuing 51% Ijara Sukuk for enhancing the capacity for the storage of oil and producing the oil from imported crude oil. 49% murabaha sukuk for importing crude oil. Successful implementation of the Shariah-compliant ARAMCO project can open the door to foreign direct investment for Pakistan and the other third economies, meeting the “Reducing Poverty of SDGs.”

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to offer a hybrid stand-alone system for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations (CS), an emerging power scheme due to the availability of renewable and environment-friendly energy sources. This paper presents the analysis of a photovoltaic (PV) with an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) algorithm, solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and a battery storage scheme incorporated for EV CS in a stand-alone mode. In previous studies, either the hydrogen fuel of SOFC or the irradiance is controlled using artificial neural network. These parameters are not controlled simultaneously using an ANFIS-based approach. The ANFIS-based stand-alone hybrid system controlling both the fuel flow of SOFC and the irradiance of PV is discussed in this paper.
Design/methodology/approach
The ANFIS algorithm provides an efficient estimation of maximum power (MP) to the nonlinear voltage–current characteristics of a PV, integrated with a direct current–direct current (DC–DC) converter to boost output voltage up to 400 V. The issue of fuel starvation in SOFC due to load transients is also mitigated using an ANFIS-based fuel flow regulator, which robustly provides fuel, i.e. hydrogen per necessity. Furthermore, to ensure uninterrupted power to the CS, PV is integrated with a SOFC array, and a battery storage bank is used as a backup in the current scenario. A power management system efficiently shares power among the aforesaid sources.
Findings
A comprehensive simulation test bed for a stand-alone power system (PV cells and SOFC) is developed in MATLAB/Simulink. The adaptability and robustness of the proposed control paradigm are investigated through simulation results in a stand-alone hybrid power system test bed.
Originality/value
The simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the ANFIS algorithm in a stand-alone hybrid power system scheme.

Abstract
Purpose
In a dual financial system where both conventional and Islamic financial institutions co-exist, the motives behind customers’ choices of financial products remain a crucial factor to comprehend. Thus, this paper aims to examine the influence of Islamic financial literacy (IFL) and motives (religious, ethical and economic) on the holdings of Islamic financial products (IFPs).
Design/methodology/approach
The sample consists of 234 bank customers in Klang Valley, Malaysia, with data obtained through a convenience sampling method. The instrument used was a digital survey that was electronically sent to respondents.
Findings
Findings reveal that IFL and religious motives positively influence IFPs, whereas economic motives negatively influence IFPs. Ethical motives have no significant impact on IFPs.
Research limitations/implications
The findings imply that IFPs attract customers due to their adherence to Islamic teachings, indicating strong religious motives. However, the negative leanings of the economic motive suggest that customers may perceive IFPs as less favourable due to higher costs and risks relative to conventional products. Islamic financial institutions must widen their efforts in educating the public regarding IFPs on the benefits of adherence to Shariah principles and at the same time improve their products’ cost-benefits.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the literature by comprehensively examining IFPs in terms of both assets and financing products. In addition, IFL is measured in an all-inclusive way, covering different dimensions of knowledge related to Islamic savings, investments, protection and financing.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to examine the association between international migration and utilization of reproductive health care among women left behind in Pakistan by male migrants, in comparison with women in non-migrant households.
Design/methodology/approach
From the nationally representative Pakistan Demographic and Health Survey, 2017–2018, 8,158 currently married women who had delivered a child during the five years before the survey were included. Among the 8,158 women, 811 lived in a household that had at least one international migrant, while 7,347 lived in households without migrant. Descriptive statistics as well as logistic regression was used to analyze reproductive health care. Satisfactory reproductive health was defined as: 4+ antenatal visits; 2+ tetanus injections; delivery in a health-care facility; and delivery by a skilled birth attendant.
Findings
Logistic regression indicates that women in migrant households had a significantly higher utilization of all four health-care services, after controlling for their autonomy level. However, once background characteristics (woman’s age, education, rural-urban residence and wealth status) were factored in, women in migrant households were not significantly different from those in non-migrant households, except for delivering in a medical health-care facility, the former being 1.3 times more likely to deliver in a health facility than the latter. A higher level of autonomy was associated significantly with greater utilization of reproductive health services.
Originality/value
This study adds the dimension of international migration to the existing knowledge on utilization of health-care services, a subject that is relatively under researched in Pakistan.

Abstract
Purpose
Knowledge loss (KL) is still an unfortunate fact, causing many challenges, including poor organisational performance, despite prior efforts to investigate knowledge retention methods. Therefore, this study identifies early approaches to combat KL and poor organisational performance, shifting focus on employee personality traits.
Design/methodology/approach
Grounded on the social exchange theory (SET) cross-section data from 400 Chinese construction knowledge employees were used to investigate the role of internal work locus of control (IWLC) on job rotation (JR), KL and organisational performance. The data were analysed through IBM SPSS Statistics 25 and SmartPLS 4 software.
Findings
The results demonstrated that IWLC minimises KL and positively influences JR. Then, JR negatively influences KL and decreases in organisational performance. The negative mediating effect of JR in the relationship between IWLC, KL and decreased organisational performance were also found. Finally, KL proved to positively influence a decrease in organisational performance.
Research limitations/implications
This study contributes to the new understanding of individual behaviour and its influence on organisational outcome variables. Specifically, for ultimate KL prevention and organisational performance improvement, an organisation should understand its employees' behaviours to establish progressive collective learning and knowledge sharing.
