Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to explore factors influencing apartment price volatility in the two biggest cities in Vietnam, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Design/methodology/approach

The study uses the supply and demand approach and provides a literature review of previous studies to develop four main hypotheses using four determinants of apartment price volatility in Vietnam: gross domestic product (GDP), inflation rate, lending interest rate and construction cost. Subsequently, the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) is used to analyze a monthly data sample of 117.

Findings

The research highlights the important role of construction costs in apartment price volatility in the two largest cities. Moreover, there are significant differences in how all four determinants affect apartment price volatility in the two cities. In addition, there is a long-run relationship between the determinants and apartment price volatility in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Research limitations/implications

Limitations related to data transparency of the real estate industry in Vietnam lead to three main limitations of this paper, including: this paper only collects a sample of 117 valid monthly observations; apartment price volatility is calculated by changes in the apartment price index instead of apartment price standard deviation; and this paper is limited by only four determinants, those being GDP, inflation rate, lending interest rate and construction cost.

Practical implications

The study provides evidence of differences in how the above determinants affect apartment price volatility in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, which helps investors and policymakers to make informed decisions relating to the real estate market in the two biggest cities in Vietnam.

Social implications

This paper makes several recommendations to policymakers and investors in Vietnam to ensure a stable real estate market, contributing to the stability of the national economy.

Originality/value

This paper provides a new approach using VECM to analyze both long-run and short-run relationships between macroeconomic and sectoral independent variables and apartment price volatility in the two biggest cities in Vietnam.

Abstract

Purpose

Applying the broaden-and-build theory, this paper aims to examine the effect of entrepreneurial wellbeing (EWB) on the opportunity recognition (OpR) ability and how it changes over entrepreneurial stages.

Design/methodology/approach

This study was based on the survey data of 307 entrepreneurs in Vietnam, which is an emerging market with full support for entrepreneurship by the government.

Findings

The results indicated that EWB has a salient effect on the OpR ability of entrepreneurs. Besides, in the later stages of the entrepreneurial process, EWB increases in its importance toward the ability to recognize potential business opportunities.

Originality/value

This study contributes to EWB and entrepreneurship research by providing theoretical and empirical evidence of wellbeing as a crucial psychological resource in entrepreneurship. Besides, this study uncovers the dynamic nature of entrepreneurship by analyzing when EWB can produce higher levels of entrepreneurs’ OpR along entrepreneurial stages.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore the domain of metaverse commerce and conduct a thorough examination of the complex dynamics that contribute to impulsive purchasing behavior. This study aims to examine the impact of vividness, interactivity and effectiveness on social presence and telepresence within the metaverse, a digital landscape. Specifically, it seeks to understand how these factors influence consumers' impulsive buying behavior.

Design/methodology/approach

The methodology used in this study consisted of distributing self-administered questionnaires via a survey. Data collection was conducted among a targeted sample of 348 participants in Vietnam who had direct experience with metaverse commerce services. Then, the collected data was subjected to analysis using two distinct methodologies: partial least squares structural equation modeling and artificial neural networks.

Findings

The findings of this study provide significant insights into the correlation between social presence, telepresence and impulsive buying behavior within the field of metaverse commerce. The research findings also indicate that the impact of social presence and telepresence on impulsive purchasing behavior is contingent upon the enhanced vividness, effectiveness and interactivity of the virtual environment.

Originality/value

The present investigation unveiled a range of linear and non-linear mechanisms that elucidate the functions of effectiveness, vividness and interactivity in facilitating the complex interplay between social presence, telepresence and impulsive buying behavior in the context of metaverse commerce. The study provides both theoretical and practical contributions to the existing body of literature on Metaverse commerce.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the trend of research on universities and accountability (UAA) in Southeast Asian (SEA) countries.

Design/methodology/approach

A total of 115 journal articles, conference papers, books and book chapters were obtained from the Scopus database spanning the years 1996–2023. These documents were subsequently analyzed using bibliometric methods.

Findings

The majority of UAA in SEA documents were published between 2007 and 2023 (106 documents, 92.19%). Scholars from both SEA countries and outside the region, particularly Australia, co-authored UAA in SEA documents. While scholars from Vietnam contributed the highest number of UAA in SEA publications (30 documents), scholars from Australia received the highest number of citations (878 citations). Collaboration between Vietnam and Australia emerged as the most productive partnership in conducting studies on UAA in SEA. Additionally, UAA in SEA documents were published not only in education-related outlets but also in other sectors, particularly in public policy. Furthermore, studies on UAA in different countries exhibited both similar and dissimilar interest keywords.

Originality/value

This study represents the first bibliometric analysis focusing on UAA in SEA literature. The insights and implications derived from this study are valuable for future researchers, university leaders and policymakers.

Abstract

Purpose

This research investigates the factors that drive affluent customers to engage in sustainable behaviours, particularly their choice to stay in green hotels. The study aims to understand how green purchase intentions (GPI) translate into green purchase behaviours (GPB), focusing on how the scarcity of green hotels may influence this relationship.

Design/methodology/approach

Using a quantitative research method, the study examines several key predictors – such as ecological concern, perceived behavioural control, social norms and green attitudes – and their impact on GPI and GPB. Data were gathered from 418 affluent consumers through a structured survey, capturing their views on ecological concern, perceived control, social norms, green attitudes and related purchasing intentions and behaviours. The data were then analysed using SPSS and AMOS, with additional validation through artificial neural networks (ANN).

Findings

The findings indicate that ecological concern, perceived behavioural control, social norms and green attitudes significantly affect GPI among affluent consumers, and there is a strong positive correlation between GPI and GPB. Additionally, the study highlights that the unavailability of green hotels weakens the intention–behaviour link.

Research limitations/implications

One limitation of this study is its reliance on self-reported data, which may be subject to social desirability bias and may not accurately reflect actual behaviour. Additionally, the study focuses on a specific context, green hotel purchases, which may limit the generalizability of the findings to other green consumer behaviours or industries. The cross-sectional nature of the study also prevents the establishment of causality between the constructs. Furthermore, the study may not account for other potential moderating variables, such as price sensitivity, brand loyalty or individual differences in environmental knowledge, which could also influence the relationship between green purchase intention and behaviour.

Practical implications

The research emphasizes the importance of perceived behavioural control and the detrimental impact of limited green hotel availability on the intention–behaviour relationship. The study provides practical insights for hotel managers, recommending clear communication strategies, deeper integration of sustainability practices and collaboration with policymakers to encourage sustainable consumer behaviours.

Originality/value

This study stands out by focusing on affluent consumers and their green purchasing habits, contributing valuable knowledge to the field of sustainable behaviour.
