Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to explore how one elementary school administrative team responded to their changing student populations to include Latin(x) within their black community. The responses included looping practices, relationship building with families and culturally relevant pedagogies. In particular, this paper considers how the three aspects of the change worked together toward the goal of providing its students with quality educational opportunities and enhancements.
Design/methodology/approach
The research presented here is part of a longitudinal (four-year) qualitative study where ethnographic approaches to data collection were adopted.
Findings
The four-year immersion in the values of culturally relevant pedagogy created a reciprocal growth in understanding among the teachers and the students of the black and Latin(x) populations, sustained the overarching ideas of deep family connections and contributed to asset-driven curriculum.
Originality/value
A national trend shows rapid changing demographics where Latin(x) families are moving into black neighborhoods and schools. This change in schools’ student populations finds educators facing new challenges in addressing the educational and cultural needs of two minoritized populations. This research adds to the existing scholarship by documenting how one school shifts their learning atmosphere to deeply engage students in culturally relevant pedagogies.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the impact of gastronomic sensory experiences on customer intention to revisit. The paper analyses if sensory perception is positively related to experiential value and attempts to verify if customer satisfaction is positively related to post-purchase behaviour.
Design/methodology/approach
The paper adopts a quantitative approach through structural equation modelling for analysing the data collected from 416 respondents in Portugal, a country well-known for its gastronomy.
Findings
Sensory perception positively impacts the experiential value in its functional and emotional dimensions. Furthermore, immediate customer satisfaction induces positive post-purchase behaviour regarding slow food restaurants.
Practical implications
This study provides practical guidelines for managers to monitor customer satisfaction by applying sensory marketing techniques. Furthermore, slow food advocates for environmentally sustainable practices, social welfare and the preservation of biodiversity and local culinary traditions.
Originality/value
Slow Food restaurants must remain authentic and sustainable to develop a traditional gastronomic experience. Sensory marketing is a marketing practice that uses senses to improve customers’ emotions and dining experiences. Although there are studies applied to the restaurant sector, there are hardly any applied to slow food.

Abstract
Purpose
This study relied on the affective events theory to test the mediating role of the ratio of emotions in the relationship between employees' perceived leadership effectiveness and their well-being at work.
Design/methodology/approach
A quantitative methodology was used, based on a deductive approach of a transversal nature. Data were collected from a convenience sample consisting of 255 working adults.
Findings
Structural equation modeling results demonstrated that perceived leadership effectiveness positively influenced well-being and the ratio of emotions, showing that when employees perceived their leader as effective, they tended to experience more positive emotions and less negative ones (as indicated by a positive ratio). Furthermore, the results supported the hypothesis that perceived leadership effectiveness influenced well-being through increases in the ratio of emotions.
Research limitations/implications
The nature of the sample makes it impossible to generalize the results. Also, the fact that the questionnaires were self-reported may have biased the results because only the employees' perception of the variables under study was known.
Practical implications
This study highlights the fact that perceived leadership effectiveness can be seen as an affective event that triggers positive and negative emotional responses at work, which, in turn, will have an impact on employee well-being.
Originality/value
An effective leadership style has been shown to be pivotal in reducing the prevalence of negative emotions within a team. When leaders foster a welcoming work environment where team members enjoy their roles, it often results in heightened positive emotions and overall well-being.

Abstract
Purpose
Sustainability, based on the principles of sustainable development, is supported through human resource management practices that enable the attraction, development and efficient management of organizations' employees. These sustainable practices bring various benefits to organizations, the environment and their employees, so should consider how employees are treated and how their well-being is promoted through actions that value their health, development, work–life balance and the provision of adequate working conditions.
Design/methodology/approach
We conducted a bibliometric analysis and a systematic literature review. We identified 644 records from the past 52 years related to the four-day workweek and performed a two-step analysis. From these records, we selected 104 organizational-focused papers and analyzed them using VOSViewer. We categorized this initial sample into 10 clusters across five dimensions: societal, environmental, organizational, family and individual. In the second step, we thoroughly examined eight papers to understand the impact of this work arrangement on people management. Our analysis revealed that the primary effects of a four-day workweek are improved satisfaction, productivity and work–life balance.
Findings
Findings show that four-day workweek is mainly studied at a macro-level, and it still lacking research at the organizational level, namely on the people management topic. However, it was possible to identify elements that are considered fundamental to take into account for the success of organizations that intend to adopt this working method, namely employee satisfaction, production levels and the balance between their personal and professional life.
Practical implications
The study’s development is crucial for academia and entrepreneurship, serving as a foundation for future research on the impact of the four-day workweek on people management. The detailed characterization of scientific documents and identification of the most relevant aspects in pertinent areas provides a foundation for understanding and exploring this work model. It underscores the importance of considering factors such as satisfaction, productivity and work–life balance, exposing different results obtained in various scientific productions and offering a detailed view of the existing literature on this topic.
Originality/value

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to propose and validate a framework for analyzing management activities in regional strategic networks. It addresses the knowledge gap regarding network management and the lack of focus on specific activities and management modes employed by network actors.
Design/methodology/approach
The research methodology involves a literature review to identify essential network management functions, which academic experts and field specialists then evaluate. Based on their feedback, an instrument is refined to assess these activities’ strategic importance and frequency. Data is collected from 86 regional strategic network managers, meeting the required criteria for factor analysis. Principal component analysis with varimax rotation measures the “Network Management” construct and identifies underlying dimensions summarizing observed variables.
Findings
The analysis reveals two dimensions within the framework: one encompasses early-stage network development activities (ex ante activities), and the other includes activities associated with more advanced stages (ex post activities). This framework contributes methodologically to measuring and analyzing network management.
Research limitations/implications
This research addresses the need for robust conceptual frameworks in network governance, advancing the understanding of governance drivers and their impact on network outcomes by aligning network phenomena with performance.
Practical implications
The framework provides valuable insights for network managers, enhancing their understanding of management activities’ strategic importance and frequency. This knowledge can inform managerial decisions and improve network management practices.
Originality/value
This study introduces an original framework for analyzing network management activities in regional strategic networks, filling a significant research gap. Despite limitations like specificity to certain network types and subjective responses, the study maintains validity and reliability criteria. Future research opportunities involve applying the framework to different network contexts and conducting longitudinal studies to track network management evolution.

Abstract
Purpose
The present study focuses on analysing the impact of augmented reality (AR) on enhancing the perception of the “Authenticity of Heritage Sites” in an off-site condition. It also aims to assess participants’ satisfaction with a smartphone AR application experience of heritage sites.
Design/methodology/approach
Through a literature review, the paper outlines the perception of spaces in light of digital technologies and the state of art of augmented reality (AR) applications. It then identifies criteria and indicators for assessing the “Perception of Authenticity of the Attraction Site” in AR experiences. The authors proceed with a practical implementation in two stages. The first stage involved digitally reconstructing the remains of the Sassanid Palace of Khosroes in Ctesiphon-Iraq, which dates back to the 3rd to 6th centuries AD. This reconstruction aimed to restore the lost parts of the building, and then design a proposed smartphone application for augmented reality of this heritage site. In the second stage, the application was tested through an off-site video presentation to a selected sample of participants, to simulate the application. Followed by data collection using a questionnaire.
Findings
The results revealed high percentages of positive indicators, indicating the effectiveness of augmented reality (AR) in enhancing the perception of authenticity of the heritage site. Furthermore, participants expressed positive satisfaction with the AR application simulation video and advocated for the integration of new technologies in heritage experiences.
Research limitations/implications
The study used a video presentation to simulate the proposed augmented reality application. Although this experiment defines the research benefit in the condition of pre-visit to heritage sites, the importance of the study lies in presenting the public’s interaction with these applications in Iraq as an example for Middle Eastern countries. Consequently, it is relevant to studies interested in heritage in this region, and to those comparing the conditions and results of this study with other areas in the world. Additionally, it points at the necessity for heritage managers to focus on integrating modern interactive technology applications to enhance public engagement and understanding of heritage sites.
Practical implications
The paper gave positive results regarding the use of augmented reality technology in heritage places and results regarding satisfaction with using the application.
Social implications
Providing the public’s interaction with these applications in Iraq as an example of the Middle East countries. Consequently, understanding the heritage and calling for preservation, it is related to studies concerned with heritage in this region, in addition, the need to focus on heritage managers on integrating modern interactive technology applications to enhance general participation.
Originality/value
The paper establishes its originality by addressing the limited use of augmented reality applications in Iraq, a country in the Middle East. It highlights the audience’s recognition and endorsement of these applications. The paper examines the role of this interactive technology in raising public awareness in the region about the significance of built heritage and enhancing understanding of its authenticity. Additionally, it underscores the importance of a neglected built heritage site: the Sassanid palace in Ctesiphon. The paper highlights its considerable global tourism potential if properly considered by relevant authorities.

Abstract
Purpose
This research was conducted to develop a public education model in an effort to prevent peatland fires in Indonesia.
Design/methodology/approach
This research uses qualitative and quantitative data obtained through a participatory rural appraisal approach. The approach taken is group-oriented to collect information from local communities. Field surveys were carried out by selecting locations in areas prone to peatland fires, making observations and discussing with informants at the research location.
Findings
The occurrence of fires in peatlands is caused by intentional and unintentional factors. Intentional factors come from traditional agricultural practices, the low cost of burning peat land, land ownership conflicts and increasing demand for agricultural land. Unintentional factors caused by lack of discipline in the people around the peatlands include throwing cigarette butts carelessly, making campfires and uncontrolled burning of rubbish.
Research limitations/implications
The community played a crucial role in fire prevention through the establishment of the Fire Care Community (Masyarakat Peduli Api or MPA) group. This group adopted a community-based disaster management approach. The community education model consisted of individual and mass approaches. The individual approach comprised direct and indirect communication, technical guidance and face-to-face services to the community. The mass approach included socialization and campaigns, discussion forums, social media content related to fire prevention, restoration actions and incorporating peatland fire mitigation into the local disaster curriculum.
Originality/value
The results of this research provide input for policymakers in efforts to prevent peatland fires in Indonesia. These findings are a model for increasing local community participation through training and guidance.
