Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to develop an integrative framework for strategic intelligence (SI) tailored to guide companies navigating systemic disruptions within global supply chains, identifying key determinants for its effective deployment. Current literature on management systems addresses SI components individually, hindering a precise definition and implementation strategy. This systematic review aims to fill these gaps by establishing a conceptual model of SI capability, emphasizing the interdependence of its dimensions.
Design/methodology/approach
Following the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) mixed-method analysis approach and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement, this systematic review synthesizes empirical studies, conceptual papers, mathematical models and literature reviews on SI capability dimensions. It adopts a flexible approach to explore SI within supply chain resilience during systemic crises.
Findings
The study enhances and broadens the field of dynamic capabilities (DCs) by advancing knowledge on SI as a dynamic capability inducing resilience within supply chains facing systemic risks. Additionally, it synthesizes and offers perspective on a rapidly expanding body of literature from the past three years, identifying emerging trends and gaps.
Research limitations/implications
This research focused on three capacities: Supply Chain Visibility (SCV), Environmental Dynamism (ED) and Timely Seizing and Detection-Making (TSDM). While other dynamic capabilities may enhance SC resilience (SCR), this study emphasized the analytical and decision-making dimensions critical for improving SCR.
Originality/value
This systematic literature review introduces a novel conceptual framework, providing a foundation for empirical investigations. By offering an integrated theoretical perspective, the study proposes actionable research propositions and insights into SI’s strategic role in crisis management within supply chains.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to develop an intelligent tutoring system (ITS) for programming learning based on information tutoring feedback (ITF) to provide real-time guidance and feedback to self-directed learners during programming problem-solving and to improve learners’ computational thinking.
Design/methodology/approach
By analyzing the mechanism of action of ITF on the development of computational thinking, an ITF strategy and corresponding ITS acting on the whole process of programming problem-solving were developed to realize the evaluation of programming problem-solving ideas based on program logic. On the one hand, a lexical and syntactic analysis of the programming problem solutions input by the learners is performed and presented with a tree-like structure. On the other hand, by comparing multiple algorithms, it is implemented to compare the programming problem solutions entered by the learners with the answers and analyze the gaps to give them back to the learners to promote the improvement of their computational thinking.
Findings
This study clarifies the mechanism of the role of ITF-based ITS in the computational thinking development process. Results indicated that the ITS designed in this study is effective in promoting students’ computational thinking, especially for low-level learners. It also helped to improve students’ learning motivation, and reducing cognitive load, while there’s no significant difference among learners of different levels.
Originality/value
This study developed an ITS based on ITF to address the problem of learners’ difficulty in obtaining real-time guidance in the current programming problem-solving-based computational thinking development, providing a good aid for college students’ independent programming learning.

Purpose
The return behavior of customers has a great impact on the e-retail industry and has resulted in the emergence of return-freight insurance (RI). Additionally, customer loss aversion arising from returns affects e-retailers' decisions and manufacturers' profits. Therefore, the main purpose of the authors' study is to determine how e-retailers and manufacturers choose their RI strategy and pricing according to customers' loss aversion.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors propose three scenarios: no RI, customer purchase RI and free e-retail RI (FRI). Meanwhile, the authors also model a Stackelberg game between e-retailers and manufacturers for analysis. Then, according to customer return behavior and loss aversion, the authors study the optimal pricing decision and RI premium allocation scheme for e-retailers and manufacturers under different scenarios.
Findings
It was found that the loss sensitivity reduces customers' willingness to buy RI, which is not conducive to the development of e-retailers and manufacturers. Additionally, with higher loss sensitivity, e-retailers and manufacturers offer FRI to gain higher profits, which supports the implementation of the FRI strategy.
Originality/value
The authors introduce customers' loss aversion into RI to analyze the optimal pricing decisions and profits of e-retailers and manufacturers, enriching the application of loss aversion theory. In addition, this study analyzes the two-way cost-sharing mechanism between manufacturers and e-retailers to provide FRI, which provides a theoretical basis for RI premium sharing.

Purpose
This study explores the contingent relationship between technological diversification (TD) and innovation performance, particularly in the context of China’s high-tech firms. It aims to understand how the structure of firm ownership influences the allocation of innovation resources and, consequently, the efficiency of innovation activities.
Design/methodology/approach
The research employs a fixed-effect regression model to analyze a unique panel dataset of 1,139 Chinese listed high-tech firms over a nine-year period. The dataset includes firm-year observations from 19 industries, allowing for a comprehensive analysis of the relationships between TD, innovation performance and ownership structure.
Findings
This study finds an inverted U-shaped relationship between TD and innovation performance, indicating that while a certain level of TD can enhance innovation performance, excessive diversification can lead to diminishing returns. The findings also reveal that ownership concentration amplifies this relationship, suggesting that firms with more concentrated ownership structures can quickly reach optimal levels of innovation performance but are also more susceptible to the “over-diversification trap.” In contrast, equity restriction and ownership type (state-owned vs privately owned enterprises) moderate the relationship, indicating that firms with these structures may maintain optimal innovation performance levels for longer periods.
Originality/value
This research provides novel insights by confirming a nonlinear, inverted U-shaped relationship between TD and innovation performance, specifically within the context of Chinese high-tech firms. By integrating corporate governance theory, our study advances understanding of how ownership structure – through ownership concentration, equity restriction and ownership type – moderates the TD-innovation performance relationship. This perspective offers a deeper understanding of resource allocation and innovation efficiency in emerging markets. The findings hold practical implications for managers and policymakers, underscoring the importance of aligning TD strategies with firm ownership structures to optimize innovation outcomes.

Purpose
Supply chain revamping (SCR) is an important strategy for firms to improve their supply chain operations in a rapidly changing environment. The purpose of this study is to shed light on the impact of SCR on shareholder value.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on Signaling Theory and 184 SCR announcements published by US-listed firms from 2013 to 2018, this study employs event study methodology and empirically examines three issues: Antecedents of SCRs; Primary purposes and actions of SCRs; In addition to the impact of SCRs on shareholder value using stock returns, we also examined the factors that can influence the extent of stock returns.
Findings
Firstly, our results indicate that SCRs are primarily driven by firms’ poor prior performance, CEO turnover and external control threats (ECTs). Secondly, the stock market favors SCRs aiming to meet customer needs and those accomplished through network remodel. However, the market reacts negatively to SCRs aiming at cutting costs, improving poor performance, and those implemented through network trim. Finally, the cross-sectional analysis indicates that shareholders prefer firms operating in more competitive or faster-growing industries and those adopting an expansionist strategy than those adopting a streamlining strategy.
Originality/value
Our study provides managers with valuable insights into when firms can benefit from initiating SCRs not only by examining the purposes and actions of SCRs but also by examining the industry- and strategy-specific moderators. Our study illuminates the conditions under which SCR will positively affect shareholder value. Additionally, this study contributes to the existing literature by deepening the understanding of the impact of supply chain decisions on firm performance and identifying the marginal conditions under which the stock market will react positively to SCR announcements.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to examine online comments on destination social responsibility (DSR). Typically, visitors do not discuss their experiences in terms explicitly related to DSR. This study analyzes the natural language that visitors use and identifies connections to the dimensions of DSR (i.e. environmental, sociocultural and economic responsibility). The research objectives are to identify the lexicons of tourists and the thematic arguments related to DSR dimensions. This study also analyzes the association between those dimensions and tourist destination types.
Design/methodology/approach
This study reviewed 5,113 Tripadvisor comments about the top-ranking destinations in two countries. Expert judges used text mining techniques to explore lexicons and topics. Factor correspondence analysis was used to analyze the relationship between identified DSR thematic arguments and tourist destination types (e.g. nature, urban, culture and beach destinations).
Findings
Drawing from social identity theory and self-extension theoretical approaches, this study reveals that tourists share opinions using a lexicon of DSR dimensions. Interestingly, the results of this study identify five sub-dimensions in online reviews related to social responsibility in tourism destinations: environmental (i.e. “natural landscapes”), sociocultural (i.e. “cultural heritage” and “urban leisure and outdoor spaces”) and economic dimensions (i.e. “tourism services” and “guided tours and experiences”). This paper also describes associations between DSR lexicons, the reviews’ main sub-dimensions and destination types.
Research limitations/implications
The empirical study analyzes online reviews of top-ten tourism destinations in Spain and Argentina, countries with similar cultural backgrounds. Because of the focus on well-ranked destinations, this sample may exhibit a higher proportion of positive comments. However, the methodological contribution can extend to other destinations. This research can help researchers and destination managers understand the issues on which tourists comment in the context of their destination experiences and the three dimensions of DSR.
Originality/value
There is a lack of studies using natural language processing techniques to analyze the intersection between UGC and DSR; social media research has neglected this topic. This study integrates the five sub-dimensions the authors identified into a three-dimensional schema and enriches the classic DSR framework.

Objetivo
Este estudio examina los comentarios online sobre la responsabilidad social de los destinos (Destination Social Responsibility, DSR). Los objetivos se centran en identificar el léxico y los argumentos temáticos que utilizan los turistas para referirse a las dimensiones de la DSR (medioambiental, sociocultural y económica). El estudio analiza la asociación entre estas dimensiones y los tipos de destino turístico.
Diseño/metodología/enfoque
Este estudio revisó 5.113 comentarios de TripAdvisor sobre los destinos mejor valorados de dos países. La minería de textos no lingüística y los jueces expertos exploraron el léxico, la minería de textos lingüística analizó el argumento temático y el análisis de correspondencia de factores reveló la relación entre las dimensiones de DSR y los tipos de destino turístico.
Resultados
Los turistas comparten opiniones utilizando un léxico de dimensiones DSR ambientales, socioculturales y económicas, siendo el léxico ambiental el más familiar. El artículo describe las asociaciones entre los léxicos de las dimensiones DSR y los tipos de destino.
Originalidad/valor
La investigación sobre medios sociales ha descuidado prácticamente la intersección entre el contenido generado por el usuario (User-Generated Content, UGC) y la DSR. Existe una carencia de investigación sobre el uso de técnicas de procesamiento del lenguaje natural para analizar el UGC en DSR. Este estudio ofrece información sobre las opiniones de los turistas sobre los destinos, los léxicos para hablar de las dimensiones de la DSR, los argumentos temáticos de los comentarios y los distintos tipos de destino.
Limitaciones/implicaciones
El estudio empírico analiza los comentarios online de los 10 principales destinos turísticos de España y Argentina, países con antecedentes culturales similares. Debido a que nos centramos en destinos con buena reputación, la muestra puede presentar una mayor proporción de comentarios positivos. Sin embargo, la contribución metodológica puede extenderse a otros destinos. Esta investigación puede ayudar a los investigadores y gestores de destinos a comprender las cuestiones sobre los comentarios de turistas sobre sus experiencias en el destino y las tres dimensiones de la DSR.

Digital technologies are essential for improving efficiency and unlocking new opportunities in various domains. The purpose of this study is to assess whether digital technologies can ameliorate servitization among manufacturing firms via the interaction of organizational slack and research and development (R&D) intensity.
Design/methodology/approach
Drawing on resource-based and service-dominant logic, the study employs a deductive approach and gathers empirical evidence from 1,929 listed A-shares manufacturing firms in the top-seven China mainland industrial provinces spanning the period 2012–2021. It used fixed-effect logistic regression techniques while controlling for various factors to analyze the relationship between digital technologies and manufacturing firm servitization.
Findings
The findings revealed that digital technologies significantly ameliorate manufacturing firms' servitization. Moreover, the study uncovers the contingent nature of this relationship, demonstrating that high levels of both internal and external slack, which provide flexibility and support, intensify the direction of digital technologies towards servitization. Additionally, R&D intensity reflects the firm's commitment to innovation, thereby enhancing synergistic effects in the relationship.
Originality/value
This study contributes robust and comprehensive empirical evidence that validates and establishes a clear baseline relationship reflecting the most current digital technology landscape and its implications for manufacturing firms servitization. Moreover, it provides a more patterned understanding of how internal and external slack typologies and R&D intensity contextualize our study’s findings. Additionally, it demonstrates how our theoretical synthesis advances firms’ strategic shifts towards service-oriented business models through digital technologies.

Design/methodology/approach
This study systematically examines existing literature on TTS, categorizing the materials and fabrication methods used. The study compares the performance metrics of different materials, addresses the challenges encountered in thin-film sensors and reviews the case studies to identify successful applications. Emerging trends and future directions are also analyzed.
Findings
This study finds that TTS are integral to various advanced technologies, particularly in high-performance and specialized applications. However, their development is constrained by challenges such as limited operational range, material degradation, fabrication complexities and long-term stability. The integration of nanostructured materials and the advancement of wireless, self-powered and multifunctional sensors are poised to drive significant advancements in this field.
Originality/value
This study offers a unique perspective by bridging the gap between material science and application engineering in TTS. By critically analyzing both established and emerging technologies, the study provides valuable insights into the current state of the field and proposes pathways for future innovation in terms of interdisciplinary approaches. The focus on emerging trends and multifunctional applications sets this review apart from existing literature.

Abstract
Purpose
The study aims to investigate consumer preferences across 25 attributes of plant-based milk (PBM) products and examine the key predictors and underlying mechanisms of consumer purchase decisions of PBM alternatives.
Design/methodology/approach
This study employed a multidimensional approach to investigate consumer preferences and the determinants of PBM purchasing decisions. Drawing on data from 819 online surveys conducted in the Jing-Jin-Ji region of China in 2021, we measured consumer preferences across 25 specific attributes and other individual characteristics. Purchasing decisions were framed as a two-stage process – the decision to purchase (frequency) and the decision on how much to pay (WTP). The Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) model was utilized to examine these dimensions separately, and the selected predictors were incorporated into OLS linear and Heckman’s two-stage regression analyses to establish the underlying mechanisms.
Findings
The findings indicate that consumers exhibit a strong preference for freshness and the absence of spoilage, followed by taste experiences such as taste and aroma. Preferences for milk preservation significantly increase the purchase frequency of PBM, while preference for calorie content has a negative and significant impact. Preferences for milk preservation, aroma and processing methods can also significantly increase WTP. Preferences vary across PBM categories. Social influence, knowledge and advertising exposure positively impact purchase frequency and WTP. Consumers with low food neophobia tend to be more responsive to product-related factors, such as freshness, calorie content and processing methods, in their purchase decisions.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the extant literature by comprehensively examining the determinants of consumer purchase decisions for PBM alternatives. The findings provide practical implications for marketers and policymakers, highlighting the strategic product attributes, consumer segments and marketing levers that can effectively target and cater to consumer preferences for PBM alternatives.

Purpose
The research on sustainable campus is related to environmental protection and the realization of global sustainable development goals (SDGs). Because the sustainable campus development in China and Japan is carried out around buildings, this paper takes Kitakyushu Science and Research Park as a case to study the characteristics and typical model of sustainable campus in Japan by combined with the characteristics of Chinese sustainable campus.
Design/methodology/approach
This study compares the evaluation standards of green buildings between China and Japan, then compares the assessment results of the same typical green building case and finally summarizes the development mode and main realization path by discussing the implications of green buildings on campus sustainability.
Findings
The results show that (1) the sustainable campus evaluation in Japan mainly pays attention to the indoor environment, energy utilization and environmental problems. (2) Buildings mainly affect the sustainability of the campus in three aspects: construction, transportation and local. (3) The sustainable campus development model of Science and Research Park can be summarized as follows: taking green building as the core; SDGs as the goals; education as the guarantee; and the integration of industry, education and research as the characteristics.
Practical implications
It mainly provides construction experience for other campuses around the world to coordinate the contradictions between campus buildings and the environment based on sustainable principles in their own construction. It proposes a new sustainable campus construction path of “building–region–environment” integrated development.
Originality/value
This study provides theoretical framework for the development of sustainable campuses that includes long-term construction ideas and current technological support greatly improving the operability of practical applications. It not only enriches the sample cases of global sustainable campuses but also provides new ideas and perspectives for the sustainable development research of the overall campus through quantitative evaluation of building and environmental impacts.
