Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the impact of dividend policy on a firm’s participation in corporate social responsibility (CSR)-related activities in the context of Pakistani firms. Furthermore, the role of the board governance mechanism in dividend policy-CSR is investigated.
Design/methodology/approach
The study’s sample consists of 115 nonfinancial Pakistan Stock Exchange-listed firms from 2010 to 2021. A multidimensional financial method is used to assess the firm’s CSR engagement, and dividend policy is assessed using the dividend payout ratio and dividend yield. The authors used the fixed effect model and the random effect model to fulfill the study’s objectives. Furthermore, the system-generalized method of moment estimation technique is used to test the robustness of the result. In addition, the authors perform reverse causality analysis and investigate the effect of financial constraints on the dividend policy–CSR relationship.
Findings
The authors find that dividend policy has a significant positive impact on CSR. The authors also find that dividend policy is significantly positively associated with components of CSR, i.e. donation, employee welfare and research and development. Furthermore, the authors find that the board governance mechanism strengthens this positive relationship between dividend policy and CSR.
Practical implications
The government and authorities must mandate or at least encourage enterprises to pay dividends as doing so not only keeps shareholders happy but also encourages firms to make CSR initiatives to balance stakeholders. Furthermore, the regulator should take steps to strengthen the board governance structure as it strengthens the positive dividend policy–CSR relationship.
Originality/value
Although little previous research has focused on the CSR-dividend policy link, the authors believe that this is the first study to look at the influence of dividend policy on CSR and the moderating impact of board governance mechanisms in an emerging country, namely, Pakistan.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aimed to analyze top management commitment to business performance in the context of coffee processing firms in Guji Zone, Ethiopia.
Design/methodology/approach
The study was conducted on coffee processing firms in Guji Zone, Ethiopia, using a mixed approach with a descriptive and explanatory design. A systematic, simple random sampling technique was used to draw a sample. A total of 345 respondents were actively involved in the survey. Descriptive and inferential statistics were applied to analyze the data through SPSS-20.
Findings
The results indicate that members of top management in the sector were committed to promoting their business performance. The findings of the study also reveal that top management commitment has significant and positive effects on the overall business performance of coffee processing firms.
Research limitations/implications
The study was limited to the coffee processing industry and generalization of the results to other sectors may be questionable. Similarly, the study was presented using primary data only. Thus, future researchers will be advised to strengthen their findings using the secondary data.
Practical implications
The study’s implications have contributed to theoretical, practical and managerial perspectives. The findings validate and refine existing theories, provide practical insights for coffee processing firms and offer guidance for managerial decision-making and leadership development.
Originality/value
Up to the time of the authors' literature review, no study with a similar topic on coffee processing firms in the Guji Zone was found and it is believed to be the first literature evidence for future researchers.

Purpose
The rapid evolution of digital innovation has significantly revolutionized the business landscape for entrepreneurs. Embracing digital innovation is crucial for all stakeholders to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) and promote sustainability. However, there is little understanding of how entrepreneurial leadership in developing nations has proactively responded to the challenge of digital innovation. Based on Drucker’s productivity theory, this study examines the relationship between entrepreneurial leadership (EL), digital orientation (DO) and digital capability (DC) as predictors of digital innovation (DI). The proposed model aims to establish the causal connections between variables and elucidate the complex interplay between digital innovation and the resulting outcome of sustainable performance (SP).
Design/methodology/approach
Two research studies were carried out in the Chinese IT industry to assess the efficacy of the theoretical framework among IT workers. Study 1 utilized a three-week, two-week time-lagged design (N = 299), while Study 2 used a two-week, four-week survey design (N = 341). The study used Smart-PLS 4.0 for data analysis.
Findings
The results showed that entrepreneurial leadership significantly impacts employee digital orientation and digital capabilities, fostering digital innovation. Moreover, digital innovation has a significant impact on sustainable performance.
Originality/value
The study’s findings allow authors to contribute to the existing scholarship on employee digital orientation, digital capabilities, digital innovation and sustainable performance in an emerging economy.

Purpose
This study aims to explore two main objectives. Firstly, it examines the mediating roles of green human resource management practices (GHRMPs) and green employee creativity (GEC) between green transformational leadership (GTL) and green employee behaviour. Secondly, it investigates the moderating effect of green individual values (GIVs) on the indirect relationship between GTL and green employee behaviour.
Design/methodology/approach
The study involved 326 employees from ECOTEL-certified hotels in India. Analysis was conducted using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) AMOS and MACRO.
Findings
The results indicate a direct relationship between GTL and green employee behaviour. Additionally, GHRMPs and GEC partially mediate this relationship. Furthermore, GIVs positively moderate the indirect relationship between GTL and green employee behaviour, specifically moderating the path between GHRMPs and GEC.
Originality/value
This study fills a significant gap in the literature by investigating the combined effects of GTL, GHRMPs, GEC and GIVs on employee pro-environmental behaviour. Understanding these relationships is crucial for organizations aiming to implement effective green initiatives and cultivate a culture of environmental responsibility among employees. This study is ground-breaking in its approach, delving into the complex network of interconnected variables through both mediation and moderation analyses. Abstract
Purpose
Drawing on resource-orchestration theory (ROT), this study investigates the influence of market intelligence and entrepreneurial orientation (EO) on international performance of born global (BG) small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in emerging markets with the mediating role of global technological competence. Quality focus is used as a moderator between global technological competence and international performance.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were gathered through a survey, and PLS-SEM was employed for hypotheses testing with a sample of 256 BG SMEs.
Findings
The results showed that market intelligence, EO, global technological competence and quality focus positively relate to international performance. Moreover, market intelligence and EO are positively associated with global technological competence. Besides, global technological competence significantly mediates the relationship between market intelligence, EO and international performance. Finally, quality focus strengthens the positive relationship between global technological competence and international performance.
Practical implications
Our research demonstrates that if management utilizes or invests on market intelligence, EO, global technological competence and quality focus, then the BG SMEs will increase their international performance.
Originality/value
The paper contribution lies in its focus on exogenous constructs (i.e. market intelligence, EO, global technological competence and quality focus) to determine the international performance of born global SMEs in emerging markets.
