Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to detail the design and development of a robust and practical perception system for autonomous material handling robots (AMHRs) operating within industrial stockyards. This system aims to support simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) while generating large-scale spatial cognition, ensuring accurate, low-latency, and scalable operations in demanding industrial environments.
Design/methodology/approach
The proposed perception system integrates multimodal perception sensors, efficient algorithms and commercial hardware devices to o provide SLAM-based large-scale spatial cognition for distributed AMHRs. The system’s design emphasizes practicality, efficiency and readiness for real-world deployment, ensuring it meets the stringent requirements of accuracy, latency and scalability.
Findings
Experiments conducted in a real industrial stockyard environment demonstrate the practicality and robustness of the perception system. The system exhibits high performance in state estimation, stockpile modeling accuracy and motion spatial cognition, confirming its effectiveness for AMHR operations.
Practical implications
The developed system was practically used at Tianjin Port, demonstrating the potential for widespread industrial application, offering a scalable and efficient solution for AMHR operations. Its integration into diverse industrial settings can lead to significant improvements in material handling processes, contributing to enhanced productivity and operational efficiency.
Originality/value
This work presents an innovative perception system that combines advanced SLAM-based spatial cognition akin to that of the brain with practical deployment considerations. The system’s design and implementation address the specific challenges of AMHRs in industrial environments, providing a novel solution for enhancing the operational efficiency and adaptability of autonomous robots in stockyards and similar settings.

Methodology: This research utilizes a survey of existing written works on Industry 5.0, AI in healthcare, and associated empowering technologies. It also leans on insights from recent investigations and business actions to pinpoint current patterns and future paths.
Findings: This chapter showcases how AI-driven solutions can greatly alter various facets of healthcare. Abstract
Purpose
The importance of key account management (KAM) as a management technique in business-to-business markets has grown in recent years. The success of KAM programmes is highly dependent on the efforts of individual employees, specifically key account managers. Research on KAM at an individual level is important but lacking in the academic domain. This study aims to fill this gap by developing and evaluating a model of key account manager personality traits and how they impact the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The study also depicts the effect of the adoption of AI technologies on competitive advantage and firm performance.
Design/methodology/approach
The study examines how the adoption of AI technologies impacts firms’ competitive advantage and performance. The study used competitive advantage as a mediator and organisational culture as a moderator. A mixed-method analysis was used to conduct the study. In the first phase, an exploratory study was conducted using interviews with 26 key account managers from the automobile industry and thematic analysis to establish 9 constructs. In the second phase, which is a confirmatory study, 496 respondents finally responded to the questionnaire.
Findings
All constructs are used for confirmatory analysis and validate the data. Our research shows that key account managers’ adoption of AI technologies is influenced significantly by personality traits. Extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism and openness have substantial links to adopting AI technologies, which impacts firms’ competitive advantage and performance. Organisational culture significantly moderates the association between agreeableness and the adoption of AI technologies.
Practical implications
The findings of this research allow organisations to optimise team composition, customise training programs based on individual traits and incorporate personality assessments into recruitment processes for streamlined technology adoption and improved competitiveness. Overall, these actions aim to enhance AI integration, driving competitive advantage and client satisfaction.
Originality/value
This study stands out as one of the limited inquiries examining how the Big-five personality traits of key account managers influence the integration of AI technologies and its resulting impact on company performance. Therefore, this research makes notable contributions to the realms of organisational psychology and technology adoption studies.

Blockchain technology, renowned for its decentralization, security, reliability, and data integrity, has the potential to revolutionize businesses globally. However, its full potential remains unrealized due to adoption barriers, necessitating further studies to address these challenges. Identifying these barriers is crucial for businesses and practitioners to effectively tackle them. This systematic review analyzed 70 eligible studies out of 1944 gathered from various databases to understand and identify common blockchain adoption barriers. The Technology–Organization–Environment (TOE) framework was the most popular theory used in these studies. Despite differences in variable definitions, financial constraints, lack of stakeholder collaboration and coordination, and social influences like resistance to change and negative perceptions emerged as the top three barriers. The supply chain domain had the highest number of studies on blockchain adoption. Notably, there was a significant increase in studies addressing blockchain adoption in 2023, comprising 34.2% of the total reviewed studies. This review provides a comprehensive overview of identified barriers, serving as a valuable foundation for future research. Understanding these challenges allows researchers to design targeted studies aimed at developing solutions, strategies, and innovations to overcome obstacles hindering blockchain adoption.

The concept of Construction 5.0 has emerged as the next frontier in construction practices and is characterized by the integration of advanced technologies with human-centered approaches, sustainable practices and resilience considerations to build smart and future-ready buildings. However, there is currently a gap in research that provides a comprehensive perspective on the opportunities and challenges of facilitating Construction 5.0. This study aims to explore the opportunities and challenges in facilitating Construction 5.0 and its potential to implement smart, sustainable and resilient buildings.
Design/methodology/approach
The structural equation modeling (SEM) method was used to evaluate the research model and investigate the opportunities and challenges related to Construction 5.0 in its implementation for smart, sustainable and resilient buildings.
Findings
The results show that adopting human-centric technology, sustaining resilience and maintaining sustainability in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry seizes the opportunities to overcome the challenges for facilitating Construction 5.0 in the implementation of smart, sustainable and resilient buildings.
Practical implications
The AEC industry facilitating Construction 5.0 has the potential to redefine the future of construction, creating a built environment that is not only intelligent, sustainable and resilient but also deeply connected with the well-being and values of the communities it serves.
Originality/value
The research illuminates the path forward for a holistic understanding of Construction 5.0, envisioning a future where smart, sustainable and resilient buildings stand as testaments to the harmonious collaboration between humans and technology.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to develop an agile blockchain as a service (aBaaS) framework for construction projects, which will support blockchain design, deployment and operation in a flexible, agile and cost-effective manner.
Design/methodology/approach
This research adopts a design science research method. The aBaaS framework is then substantiated through two case studies pertinent to construction projects.
Findings
It is found to be highly flexible, achieving high completion rates in customizing the design, deployment and visualization of blockchain systems within given periods. Also, the aBaaS framework is highly agile and cost-effective, capable of responding to changes with low person-day units and labor cost.
Research limitations/implications
Limited sub-service components are built in design management as services (DMSs), deployment as services (DESs) and visualization as services (VISs) of aBaaS framework.
Practical implications
This research offers a reference for those aiming to realize the potential of blockchain in construction projects.
Originality/value
Firstly, it introduces a novel, flexible modular-build DMSs method to help system developers design blockchain systems for projects. Secondly, it improves the blockchain deployment methods by offering plug-and-play DESs for projects. Thirdly, it accelerates the visualization processes for blockchain users in projects by offering them flexible, click-to-go and cost-effective VISs.

Abstract
Purpose
This study investigates how corporations navigate the increasingly prominent field of environmental, social and governance (ESG) through the lens of resource dependence theory (RDT). It aims to elucidate the strategic responses of companies to media-driven public sentiment on ESG, examining the alignment of their operations and competitive strategies – specifically differentiation and cost leadership – to the external resource of media ESG sentiment.
Design/methodology/approach
Employing Python software, this research extracted over two million ESG-related news articles from Baidu News. Using machine learning and text analysis, the study assesses the media ESG sentiment and its correlation with the competitive strategies of China’s A-share listed companies over a period from 2007 to 2022. The approach leverages RDT to understand how firms adjust their strategies in response to media-driven public sentiment on ESG.
Findings
The findings indicate that positive media ESG sentiment acts as a crucial external resource, significantly influencing firms’ strategic alignment toward minimizing ESG public sentiment risks and enhancing competitive positioning, especially in the social (S) and governance (G) domains. This alignment is evident in firms’ adoption of differentiation and cost leadership strategies, affirming the study’s theoretical prediction within the RDT framework.
Originality/value
This paper provides a novel contribution by integrating RDT with the analysis of media-driven ESG sentiment to explore corporate strategic adjustments. It offers empirical evidence on the theory’s applicability in contemporary strategic corporate management, particularly in the context of ESG challenges. The research deepens the understanding of the interplay between media ESG sentiment and corporate strategy, highlighting the strategic importance of positive media sentiment in the ESG landscape.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the antecedents of tourist citizenship behavior (TCB). It also investigates the role of digital halal literacy (DHL) and religiosity in enhancing TCB.
Design/methodology/approach
This quantitative research used survey with questionnaire as the data collection methods. The samples of this study were 400 tourists who visited tourist destinations in five cities/municipals in West Sumatra Indonesia. This research used partial least square structural equation model as the data analysis tools.
Findings
This study found that satisfaction, trust and DHL are significant antecedents of TCB. In addition, satisfaction had a direct impact on TCB and influenced TCB through trust as a mediator. This study also found that religiosity had a direct influence on DHL, satisfaction and trust.
Practical implications
The findings will provide insights to tourist destination managers as well as the government on how to motivate tourists to participate in the development of Halal tourism in Indonesia. The tourists should gain sufficient knowledge or literacy about Halal, and especially in the digital context. Therefore, this will lead to their satisfaction, trust and willingness to participate in tourism development such as providing assistance to other tourists in the destinations.
Originality/value
This research has identified a new variable, DHL, which has not been addressed previously. This research has extended social exchange theory by establishing a relationship between TCB and DHL that has also not been previously explored. In addition, this study has investigated several relationships between DHL, satisfaction, trust and TCB and has shed new insights in the context of Halal tourism. This study has also provided a more comprehensive model of the relationship between DHL, satisfaction, trust and citizenship behavior specifically in Halal tourism research.

Purpose: This study examines the integration of smart agriculture and supply chain management systems within Turkey’s agricultural sector under Industry 5.0.
Need for the study: With global challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change, ensuring safe food production and accessibility is critical. However, there is a gap in understanding the readiness and awareness of Industry 5.0 technologies in agriculture and logistics. This study aims to fill this gap by investigating the adoption and implications of smart agriculture and logistics in Turkey.
Methodology: Drawing on secondary data from regulators, farmers, and supply chain experts, this study employs coding methods, particularly theoretical coding, to develop a framework for assessing the sector’s readiness for smart technologies and Industry 5.0 awareness.
Findings: This study reveals insights into the adoption and impacts of smart agriculture and supply chain systems in Turkey. It identifies factors shaping institutional logics within the sector and explores how Industry 5.0 technologies influence these logics. Additionally, it offers theoretical insights into Turkey’s agricultural future in the Industry 5.0 era.
Practical implications: Practically, this study informs policymakers, regulators, farmers, and supply chain stakeholders about Industry 5.0 technology readiness and awareness in Turkey’s agricultural sector. Purpose: In this chapter of this book, the role and contributions of blockchain in Industry 5.0 are examined. Especially, the advantages offered by blockchain in mass customization, hyper-personalization, human–robot collaboration and cognitive systems, which constitute the main theme of Industry 5.0, are mentioned.
Need for the study: With developing technology, revolutions are taking place in the industry. While these revolutions are occurring, various technologies serve as enablers. In this chapter, one of these technologies, blockchain, is examined.
Methodology: Industrial revolutions represent important technological developments for societies. In this chapter, Industry 5.0, one of these revolutions, is discussed. In the first section, the main themes of Industry 5.0 were examined. Afterward, the transition from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0 was analyzed. Then, the opportunities offered by Industry 5.0 were reviewed. Subsequently, the contributions of blockchain to Industry 5.0 were examined. Finally, the role of blockchain in Industry 5.0 is summarized.
Findings: The main themes of Industry 5.0 enable customized processes and smart production approaches. Blockchain makes significant contributions to these processes with its security and traceability features. In addition, smart contracts can increase transparency, traceability and security among stakeholders in the production process with their distributed ledger structure and immutability features. In blockchain networks, each transaction is carried out and approved by consensus. This consensus, provided by smart contracts, also secures transactions by reducing administrative costs. With these contributions, blockchain meets the security and smart management requirements of Industry 5.0.
