Abstract
Purpose
Job performance literature has evolved to address the aspects of performance thinking where knowledge sharing (KS) and emotions on the job are considered important. This study evaluates the influence of emotional intelligence (EI), mediated through KS, on job outcomes measured as job performance (JP) and job satisfaction (JS).
Design/methodology/approach
Structural equation modeling methods are used to investigate the degree of influence of EI on job outcomes through KS. The data for analysis has been collected from 227 project managers at Information Technology-Information Technology Enabled Services (IT-ITeS) firms.
Findings
The findings suggest that the EI has a positive and significant effect on KS. This implies that employees with high EI scores are more involved in the KS behavior. Furthermore, the findings suggest that KS partially mediates the relationship between EI and JP, and it fully mediates the relationship between EI and JS.
Research limitations/implications
For KS, the answer lies in the recruitment and retention of emotionally intelligent persons rather than investing only in information technology. The study enhances the literature on knowledge management, sharing and EI.
Practical implications
The proposed research model suggests a successful infusion of KS within IT-ITeS firms. Knowing the EI of employees and, accordingly, changing their behavior towards sharing knowledge is probably a distinctive, most efficacious and essential strategy for augmenting job outcomes.
Originality/value
The study establishes the role of KS in translating the impact of EI on JP and JS. Furthermore, it contributes a novel framework of KS behavior.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between lean manufacturing and corporate environmental performance. Scholarly literature has extensively addressed the relationship between those two areas but empirical papers present mixed and inconsistent results, calling for further analysis to establish a clearer understanding of the actual relationship and to identify the causes of conflicting findings across studies. Given the importance of sustainable practices in the current business landscape, this paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of this relationship through a meta-analysis of previous research, with a focus on integrating quantitative findings to shed light on the potential impact of lean manufacturing on environmental performance and report its intensity with Pearson’s correlation coefficient.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper analyzes the data from 29 primary studies published between 2001 and 2022 that have empirically measured the relationship between lean manufacturing and corporate environmental performance and that have been identified in the Web of Science and SCOPUS databases through an exhaustive review of the literature. To integrate previous empirical results and evaluate the evidence for the lean manufacturing’s influence on environmental performance, a meta-analytic methodology was adopted through the Hedges–Olkin random effect approach, based on correlations.

Practical implications
This study provides companies with an opportunity to align their operational strategies with environmental sustainability goals. Understanding that various lean practices exhibit diverse levels of correlation with multiple measures of environmental performance, decision-makers can prioritize their efforts and apply the lean practices that have a stronger effect on the desired environmental outcomes to improve their environmental impact. Conversely, managers are aware that certain lean practices have a week relationship with some environmental performance so they can avoid overestimating environmental benefits of lean manufacturing. Finally, results underscore the importance of organizational commitment to environmental sustainability.
Originality/value
It is, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, the first meta-analytic study to investigate the strength of the association between lean manufacturing and environmental performance and to test whether various lean practices are correlated to different measures of environmental performance. It fills this gap in the literature and therefore it represents a valuable contribution to the field. In addition, this paper explores certain factors that moderate the overall outcome.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to assess the influence of nursing leadership style on error management culture (EMC).
Design/methodology/approach
This scoping review was conducted following the integrative review methodology of the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase and EBSCO databases were systematically searched to identify studies on nursing leadership, error management and measurement, and error management culture. The studies’ methodological quality was then assessed using the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist for Analytical Cross-Sectional Studies.
Findings
Thirteen manuscripts were included for review. The analysis confirmed that nursing leadership plays an important role in EMC and nurses’ intention to report errors. Three emerging themes were identified: 1) leadership and EMC; 2) leadership and the intention to report errors; and 3) leadership and error rate.
Research limitations/implications
A major limitation of the studies is that errors are often analyzed in a transversal way and associated with patient safety, and not as a single concept.
Practical implications
Healthcare managers should promote training dedicated to head nurses and their leadership style, for creating a good work environment in which nurses feel free and empowered to report errors, learn from them and prevent their reoccurrence in the future.
Originality/value
There is a positive relationship between nursing leadership and error management in terms of reduced errors and increased benefits. Positive nursing leadership leads to improvements in the caring quality.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of acculturation on immigrant consumer behaviours in their host country. Mainly, the role of acculturation and luxury brand purchasing intentions were investigated.
Design/methodology/approach
The research conducted an online survey of 400 Indian sub-continent born immigrants in Australia.
Findings
The findings confirm that the behaviour acculturation dimension of immigrants is significantly negatively related to their luxury brand purchase intention. Although immigrants' overall acculturation is significantly related to the luxury brand purchase intention, their language and identity acculturation have no significant effect, supporting the multidimensional framework’s influence on immigrant consumer behaviour. Immigrants with higher family income, younger age and less academic education show more luxury brand purchase intention; however, no moderating demography was found between the relationship of acculturation and purchase intention. In spite of the limitation of sampling, this study demonstrates that immigrants' level of acculturation influences their luxury brand purchase intention in the host country.
Originality/value
This study aims to help marketers formulate a unified segmentation strategy of purchasing luxury brands based on immigrants' acculturation and sociodemographic stance. This paper highlights the specific needs of ethnic consumers. Incorporating immigrant consumers into the marketplace will help create a homogenised society and more integration of immigrants into the larger society in the host country. Findings shed light on the role of culture change as a crucial element that affects immigrants' luxury brand purchase behaviour considering their integration level into the host country.

Purpose
In the era of the circular economy, the economic growth of a country is highly dependent on the sustainable performance of the manufacturing sector. In today’s increasingly competitive world, it is important to constantly improve the manufacturing or service industry. Quality with quantity is a main characteristic, which helps a company stay in the competition. Flexibility and responsiveness to customer demands are very important for success. Generally, additional time is needed for setup caused by poor design of equipment. At this point, the terms continuous process improvement and single-minute exchange of dies (SMED) as an approach of lean manufacturing come into play. Lean manufacturing system has been identified as an approach for improving the performance of the process and product.
Design/methodology/approach
In this paper, high setup time is considered as major problem in the industry and a major cause and effect for high setup time was found. On the basis of the literature review and experts’ opinions, four categories of barriers, namely method, manpower, machine and tools are identified. In this study, a hybrid approach comprising of the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and graph theoretic approach (GTA) has been used. First, prioritization of different categories of barriers by AHP has been done, and second, GTA has been applied for finding the barriers' intensity index. Based on this study, machine and manpower barriers have emerged as major hurdles in the high setup time of machine. The proposed framework will help organizations quantify barriers in high setup time in different manufacturing processes, thereby developing effective strategies for sustainable production.
Findings
Findings of this research will contribute to ensuring sustainable competitive advantages, but it has some limitations. Development of the permanent matrix equation for barriers of high setup time is complex and lengthy when barriers are more in number. Absolute and relative values considered while quantifying the intensity of barriers are based on experts’ opinions, which may be inconsistent. In spite of these limitations, organizations can use an illustrated approach to quantify the barriers, thereby developing strategies for successful implementation of high setup time for making them sustainable in the global market. Organizations can also benchmark their sustainability preparedness with the best in the industry. As a future scope of study, high setup time can be reduced by using SMDE technology can be further validated through an empirical and case-based approach to generalize the findings.
Research limitations/implications
Authors remain confined only to setup time. The approach is generalizable and can be extended in other areas. As a future scope of study, high setup time can be reduced by using single minute die exchange technology and can be further validated through an empirical and case-based approach to generalize the findings.
Practical implications
The study guides and facilitates researchers and practitioners in using the most appropriate techniques such as AHP and GTA for empirical studies and in developing, modifying and/or reviewing application frameworks for production. It also guides implementation experience regarding high setup time by using advanced techniques such as single point die exchange (SMDE), which can be beneficiary for both developing and developed country contexts. Industries can accelerate implementation by understanding and using most important AHP, GTA and SMDE techniques.
Originality/value
Lean manufacturing system has been identified as an approach for improving the performance of the process and product. A lean manufacturing system is part of corporate culture, like tools and approaches. High setup time can be classified as waste for the company. Reduction in time is a direct way to increase the productivity and profit. Therefore, there is a need to reduce the time by using some new lean methodology. Abstract
Purpose
Performance optimization algorithms based on node attributes are of great importance for sharding blockchain systems. Currently, existing studies on blockchain sharding algorithms consider only random selection sharding strategies. However, the random selection strategy does not perfectly utilize the performance of a node to break the bottleneck of blockchain performance.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper proposes a blockchain sharding algorithm called TOPSIS Optimization Sharding System (TOSS), which is based on entropy weight method, relative Euclidean distance and the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). It defines a multi-attribute matrix to assess node performance and applies TOPSIS for scoring nodes. Then, an algorithm based on the TOPSIS method is proposed to calculate the performance score of each data node. In addition, an entropy weighting method is introduced to obtain the weights of each attribute to balance the impact of dimensional differences of attributes on the attribute weights. Nodes are ranked by composite scores to guide partitioning.
Findings
The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in this paper is verified by comparing it with various comparative algorithms. The experimental results show that the TOSS algorithm outperforms the comparison algorithms in terms of performance improvement for the blockchain system, and the throughput metrics are improved by about 20% in comparison.
Originality/value
This study introduces a novel approach to blockchain sharding by incorporating the entropy weight method and relative Euclidean distance TOPSIS into the sharding process. This approach allows for a more effective utilization of node performance attributes, leading to significant improvements in system throughput and overall performance, addressing the limitations of the random selection strategy commonly used in existing algorithms.

Purpose
Online games are widely adopted electronic applications that facilitate flow experiences, which is a highly enjoyable experience for players, thus motivating further engagement in online gameplay. During gameplay, players set gaming goals, and they must make cognitive efforts to achieve these goals. However, we do not know how goal-setting and cognitive gaming elements (game complexity and game familiarity) create flow, indicating a research gap. To fill this gap, we use the cognitive gaming elements in the literature and the theoretical elements of goal-setting theory to build a model.
Design/methodology/approach
Conducting a large-scale online survey, we collect 3,491 responses from online game players and use structural equation modeling for data analysis.
Findings
We find that challenging goals, game complexity, game familiarity and telepresence are positively linked to player-perceived flow, explaining 45% of the variance. The new finding is that challenging goals can strengthen the link between game complexity and flow. We also find that telepresence can strengthen the link between game familiarity and flow.
Originality/value
Our study provides the novel insight that gaming goals and cognitive gaming elements can generate player-perceived flow. This insight can help game makers design gaming elements to accommodate players' cognitive efforts to achieve in-game goals, thus creating flow and effectively increasing players' game engagement.

This chapter focuses on strategy, marketing strategy and airport marketing strategy concepts from an aviation and marketing point of view. Furthermore, in this chapter, we introduced a new and innovative airport marketing strategy concept and how this can influence tourism, financials, business, consumers' behaviour, sustainability and aviation activities. This chapter also analyses how operators implement new airport strategies to improve their operability, sustainability, governance and customer satisfaction. When selling an innovative product or service, the airport operator needs to examine the underlying factors that drive passengers' purchasing decisions. Abstract
Purpose
This article focuses on the continuity and changes in the Productive Welfare Regimes and investigates how the COVID-19 pandemic and population ageing can influence the established systems in Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore and Taiwan.
Design/methodology/approach
Our research is based on document review, investigating intricate situations with numerous aspects and providing an excellent opportunity for innovation and examining theoretical presumptions in welfare regime theory, as well as exploring the complicated policy trajectories that varies among cases.
Findings
Our findings reveal that social policy responses to COVID-19 have been characterized by adopting the market-conforming role of social policy for the elderly. This is shown by many policy measures focusing on self-sufficiency and an active labour market, signalling that the COVID-19 pandemic and population ageing pressure here are viewed as an economic issue over social rights. The economic-first was adopted to maintain their proximity to the global economy as key sources of their social policy development. We can conclude by emphasizing that the responses to COVID-19 have exposed deficiencies in certain existing social policies. Yet, they have not been sufficient to catalyse substantial policy changes across domains where such change had not already been initiated, thus allowing welfare regimes to remain within productivist boundaries.
Originality/value
This study responds to the current debate on the welfare regime continuity and adaptation in East Asia and suggests a new perspective of policy process in the times of insecurity.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper proposes an assessment method for lean and sustainability (LS) practices for shop-floor workers, designed to evaluate their current practice culture.
Design/methodology/approach
The method is developed in five phases: setting predefined indicators, constructing the assessment mechanism, implementing the assessment procedure, analyzing data and delivering results with recommendations. Validation is performed using two worker groups – line supervisors and operators – within the light-emitting diode (LED) manufacturing industry.
Findings
The results showed that workers’ familiarity and understanding of LS practices do not always correspond to their awareness levels. Key recommendations include prioritizing training for critical cases and adapting training approaches to fit the specific knowledge profiles identified.
Research limitations/implications
Firstly, the company should integrate the proposed assessment into an online platform that can automatically generate individual statistical results and priority levels. This reduces the burden of manual work and makes large-scale assessments more practical. Secondly, the study should expand to other shop-floor workers, such as technicians and engineers, to assess their knowledge profiles for future LS development initiatives.
Practical implications
The recommendations provide managers and training departments with guidelines to revise current training approaches. The methodology is validated, enabling the identification and mapping of each worker’s knowledge profile.
Originality/value
This study presents an original assessment method for evaluating the knowledge profiles of shop-floor workers regarding LS practices. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no prior literature has reported on an assessment method targeting this specific group. The proposed approach supports the decision-making process for better LS practices in the company.
