Abstract
Purpose
Teaching about nutrition is a crucial component of high school health education, with the potential to shape students' perceptions about food, weight and bodies and improve health outcomes. Weight-inclusive approaches have demonstrated success in improving body acceptance, decreasing dieting behaviors and anti-fat attitudes and improving health outcomes and may decrease weight-based bullying. However, little is known about nutrition education in high school settings. This study sought to understand how high school health teachers in Vermont are teaching about the connections between nutrition, weight and bodies and what influences their nutrition-focused curricular decisions. The goal is to inform the development of a novel weight-inclusive curriculum for high school health teachers in Vermont and beyond.
Design/methodology/approach
This study used case study methodology: qualitative interviews with eight teachers and document analysis of curricular materials.
Findings
Findings indicate that weight-normative activities and values dominate curriculum and that multiple levels exert influence on teacher curricular decisions. Findings confirm a need for the development and implementation of a weight-inclusive nutrition curriculum, professional development for health teachers and policy-level interventions as strategies to improve health outcomes.
Research limitations/implications
Limitations of the data collection include a small within-case sample size and limited availability of documents to review. However, the triangulation of gathered and publicly available data ultimately supported an in-depth case study.
Originality/value
The findings from this study inform future directions for both curriculum and professional development for high school health teachers, which is essential for improving health outcomes, reducing stigma and moving toward justice. This is original work.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to represent the initial impact analysis of a human resource development (HRD) intervention – the Center for Human and Organizational Potential (cHOP) – for faculty and staff at an academic medical center in the Midwestern US. cHOP seeks to unleash faculty and staff potential and advance organizational outcomes by fulfilling employees’ basic psychological needs, posited by self-determination theory (SDT, Ryan and Deci, 2000): competence, autonomy and relatedness.
Design/methodology/approach
Using Cianciolo and Regehr’s (2019) layered analysis framework as a guide, the authors conducted a program evaluation to analyze, in-depth, the nature and impact of two representative cHOP programs: Accelerate and BOOST. Specifically, the authors examined whether the implementation of these programs was consistent with SDT, as reflected in participants’ reported program experiences (i.e. “Did the intervention, in fact, occur as intended?”). The authors also examined program outcomes and opportunities for improvement based on program participants’ voices (i.e. did the intervention, implemented as intended, work?). Because SDT is a theory of individual motivation, the authors identified a need to evaluate outcomes at the individual level and beyond, broadly exploring what would happened if program participants’ basic psychological needs had been addressed. The aim was to determine the potential downstream consequences of intrinsically motivated faculty and staff, while promoting divergent thinking on program impact and sustainability.
Findings
Participants reported experiences suggest that Accelerate and BOOST addressed all three psychological needs and strengthened their intrinsic motivation to advance their leadership and career development and improve the performance of their teams and departments. These outcomes suggest the potential for impact at the individual level and beyond, such as the institution and external, professional societies.
Research limitations/implications
The study assessed two representative programs among cHOP’s many offerings. A comprehensive study of cHOP’s impact, directly linking psychological need fulfillment and organizational impact, is beyond the scope of a single study and requires further research.
Social implications
The authors suggest expanding scholarly discussions in the HRD and health professions education (HPE) literature to characterize the promise of HRD-HPE partnerships and to account for their impact more fully.
Originality/value
The study contributes to both HRD and HPE scholarship by providing a layered account of academic medical center (AMC) faculty and staff development using an HRD approach; and examining the impact of a theory- and evidence-based novel HRD intervention (i.e. cHOP) at the individual level and beyond in an AMC context.

Trauma-informed care as a concept came out of social service and mental health practice in 2009. Since then, it has been working into librarianship and library practice, first as an approach for public libraries to apply social work principles to their outreach and support of community members. Then it was applied to a broader array of libraries such as academic institutions as they worked to improve their services and offerings for members of their community. What has not yet been addressed broadly within the field of librarianship is trauma-informed leadership as a means of supporting library staff as they grapple with burnout, low morale, and vocational awe.
Academic libraries as workplaces have multiple attributes that contribute to toxicity or low psychological safety. Organizations with a lack of transparency and trust may result in library workers experiencing burnout and a lack of engagement. Creating and supporting healthy organizational cultures with open communication, collaboration, and mutuality is the ethical responsibility of managers. In institutions where there is inherited toxicity, library leaders can practice trauma-informed leadership to support individuals and build a healthier workplace culture.
While toxicity is not unique to academic libraries, large bureaucratic and hierarchical systems can be rife with issues that undermine psychological safety and engagement. This book chapter will examine trauma-informed leadership practices as applied by two leaders in their roles at various organizations and steps for leaders to transform their environments into high functioning, productive workplaces.

Abstract
As it is known, the accounting information system (AIS) plays a significant role in the business ecosystem by recording and processing financial and accounting data and reporting the produced information to all relevant parties for decision-making. However, its used methods and systems, including double-entry bookkeeping and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, have limitations, especially in terms of trust and reliability concerns for stakeholders and the possible scope for records manipulation and fraud. The application of blockchain technology is believed to enhance the reliability of the AIS and addresses many of its current limitations. Blockchain can offer numerous benefits if used to manage AIS functions through enhanced trust, reliability, and transparency, increased efficiency, reduced costs and fraud, improved accounting information quality and real-time accounting. Nevertheless, the adoption and implementation of blockchain in the AIS are associated with several technical and nontechnical challenges which are not easy to address and could limit the wide technology adoption in the immediate future. Considering that a full understanding of the benefits and challenges of adopting blockchain in the AIS still needs more clarification, this chapter examines blockchain technology and its implications for the AIS. It reviews blockchain characteristics and its benefits to the AIS, discusses its possible integration into the AIS, outlines adoption and implementation challenges, and suggests critical avenues for future research.

Disasters, including health crises and weather emergencies, are increasingly prevalent. While many people are highly resilient, the traumatic experience of emergencies and disasters can affect individuals and communities, including library staff and library users. Traumatic effects can persist long after the immediate impact of an event and may be magnified by cumulative exposure to traumatic events. Libraries are not immune from emergencies and disasters and also experience many other hazards. With attention to trauma and a focus on resilience, libraries can build strong organizations even during difficult circumstances presented by emergencies and disasters. This chapter shares research-based approaches from the literature along with promising practices shared by contributing libraries.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this research is to examine the role of anticipation as a source of well-being in extended service contexts involving constraints on one’s agency (e.g. aged care). In these service contexts, consumers have limited ownership over their time usage and foci of anticipation, which affects their well-being.
Design/methodology/approach
Semi-structured interviews (n = 35) were conducted with members of the aged care ecosystem (residents, family and staff). Two separate aged care service models were investigated as they typically reflect different levels of agency/constraint: retirement villages and residential aged care facilities.
Findings
Results indicate that the subjective passage of time is influenced by one’s foci of anticipation. Having regular foci of anticipation both at a micro- and macro-level can generate well-being benefits for recipients. The importance of restabilization and building positive curves to counteract potential negative implications was identified.
Originality/value
This research is the first service study to investigate the concept of anticipation and subjective time perception as key components of one’s well-being in extended service encounters. We propose a novel conceptual model that combines micro- and macro-level foci into an iterative package to mitigate the after-effects of anticipation. We also demonstrate how Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG3) (good health for well-being) can be addressed through service research.

Purpose
This study examines how CEOs-elect navigate power dynamics with incumbent CEOs during leadership transitions, focusing on their strategic choices – cooperate, defect or disengage – based on perceptions of the incumbent’s behavior.
Design/methodology/approach
Using the game theory framework and insights from 22 interviews with executives from large Canadian organizations, we analyze CEOs-elect’s decision-making from nomination to ascension.
Findings
CEOs-elect cooperate when they anticipate the incumbent to cooperate and defect when they anticipate defection. When faced with uncertainty or signs of disengagement from the incumbent, CEOs-elect strategically choose to disengage, adopting a “No Play” strategy to preserve board trust and organizational stability.
Research limitations/implications
Findings are based on large Canadian organizations, which may limit applicability to smaller firms, family businesses or different cultural contexts. Future research should examine CEO transitions across diverse organizational and cultural settings.
Practical implications
Boards should recognize proactively manage power struggles during transitions, ensuring support for CEOs-elect and promoting cooperation with incumbents. Understanding perceived incumbent strategies can improve transition planning, minimize conflicts and improve organizational outcomes.
Originality/value
This research introduces “No Play” as a novel strategic option in CEO transitions, contributing to game theory and power dynamics literature. It also bridges gaps in understanding by linking strategic choices of CEOs-elect to perceptions of incumbent behavior and stakeholder trust.

Purpose
With the launch of the Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP), the Canadian government named solidarity as a shared value and a driving motivation behind the FIAP. This paper explores how development workers understand and apply solidarity to their work, uncovering the opportunities and constraints they face.
Design/methodology/approach
In-depth, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 42 development workers from Canada’s federal development agency between 2019 and 2020. Transcribed data were coded by the author to identify how workers made sense of solidarity within the development industry.
Findings
The majority of workers were unsure of how to define or operationalize solidarity, demonstrating confusion. Commonality was routinely mentioned as a facet of solidarity, but workers understood this term in diverse ways, with some considering commonality as a precondition that inhibited a sense of solidarity with development partners in the global South due to differences in living conditions. About a quarter identified power and privilege as necessary considerations in the process of building solidarity, showing potential for bonds across the inequalities that define development. About 40% of workers identified the institutional structure of the organization as an obstacle to solidarity.
Originality/value
This paper presents original data from Canadian development workers, providing the first study of their understanding of solidarity as a development ethic. It shows the gaps between rhetoric and practice while recommending ways for development organizations to meaningfully engage with solidarity in their work.
