Abstract
Purpose
To address the issues of low localization and mapping accuracy, as well as map ghosting and drift, in indoor degraded environments using light detection and ranging-simultaneous localization and mapping (LiDAR SLAM), a real-time localization and mapping system integrating filtering and graph optimization theory is proposed. By incorporating filtering algorithms, the system effectively reduces localization errors and environmental noise. In addition, leveraging graph optimization theory, it optimizes the poses and positions throughout the SLAM process, further enhancing map accuracy and consistency. The purpose of this study resolves common problems such as map ghosting and drift, thereby achieving more precise real-time localization and mapping results.
Design/methodology/approach
The system consists of three main components: point cloud data preprocessing, tightly coupled inertial odometry based on filtering and backend pose graph optimization. First, point cloud data preprocessing uses the random sample consensus algorithm to segment the ground and extract ground model parameters, which are then used to construct ground constraint factors in backend optimization. Second, the frontend tightly coupled inertial odometry uses iterative error-state Kalman filtering, where the LiDAR odometry serves as observations and the inertial measurement unit preintegration results as predictions. By constructing a joint function, filtering fusion yields a more accurate LiDAR-inertial odometry. Finally, the backend incorporates graph optimization theory, introducing loop closure factors, ground constraint factors and odometry factors from frame-to-frame matching as constraints. This forms a factor graph that optimizes the map’s poses. The loop closure factor uses an improved scan-text-based loop closure detection algorithm for position recognition, reducing the rate of environmental misidentification.
Findings
A SLAM system integrating filtering and graph optimization technique has been proposed, demonstrating improvements of 35.3%, 37.6% and 40.8% in localization and mapping accuracy compared to ALOAM, lightweight and ground optimized lidar odometry and mapping and LiDAR inertial odometry via smoothing and mapping, respectively. The system exhibits enhanced robustness in challenging environments.
Originality/value
This study introduces a frontend laser-inertial odometry tightly coupled filtering method and a backend graph optimization method improved by loop closure detection. This approach demonstrates superior robustness in indoor localization and mapping accuracy.

Purpose
The global market for cloud gaming is growing rapidly. How gamers evaluate the service quality of this emerging form of cloud service has become a critical issue for both researchers and practitioners. Building on the literature on service quality and software as a service, this study develops and validates a gamer-centric measurement instrument for cloud gaming service quality.
Design/methodology/approach
A three-step measurement instrument development process, including item generation, scale development and instrument testing, was adopted to conceptualize and operationalize cloud gaming service quality.
Findings
Cloud gaming service quality consists of two second-order constructs of support service quality and technical service quality with seven first-order dimensions, namely rapport, responsiveness, reliability, compatibility, ubiquity, smoothness and comprehensiveness. The instrument exhibits desirable psychometric properties.
Practical implications
Practitioners can use this new measurement instrument to evaluate gamers' perceptions toward their service and to identify areas for improvement.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the service quality literature by utilizing qualitative and quantitative approaches to develop and validate a new measurement instrument of service quality in the context of cloud gaming and by identifying new dimensions (compatibility, ubiquity, smoothness and comprehensiveness) specific to it.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to analyse the antecedents and consequences of consumer participation behaviour in the hotel industry. It investigates how citizenship behaviour influences the link between participation and switching intention. It also investigates hotel innovativeness, brand identification and consumer value co-creation using the frameworks of innovation diffusion theory, social identity theory and social exchange theory. By combining different academic perspectives, the study provides a thorough grasp of the elements that influence consumer behaviour and loyalty to hospitality brands.
Design/methodology/approach
This study used a descriptive-analytical approach to survey 526 guests who stayed at five-star hotels affiliated with chains in Egypt. The hotels were chosen using stratified random sampling, which ensured representation across multiple segments. For practical reasons, convenience sampling techniques were used to pick research participants. To test the study hypotheses, structural equation modelling was used, which provided a strong statistical analysis to assess the correlations between variables and validate the suggested theoretical framework.
Findings
The research indicates that hotel innovativeness has a substantial impact on consumers’ brand identification and involvement behaviour, but not their propensity to move brands. The relationship between participation behaviours and intention to switch is mediated by consumer citizenship behaviour.
Research limitations/implications
The cross-sectional study methodology may not address causal linkages or developmental difficulties because it only collected data at one point in time. A longer study period is required, and the sample group’s breadth is restricted to five-star hotel guests from Egypt’s chain-affiliated hotels.
Originality/value
This study offers a thorough methodology for assessing how hotel innovation influences consumer brand identification. It also looks at how consumer brand identification affects involvement and switching intentions. The study also investigates the moderating influence of consumer citizenship behaviour in the link between involvement and switching intentions.

Purpose
This research paper aims to investigate the predictors and outcomes of immersive technology adoption in tourism.
Design/methodology/approach
PLS-SEM is used for data collected from tourists visiting the UAE and Egypt to examine predictors and consequences of adoption.
Findings
It is revealed that perceived ease of use, enjoyment, immersion, usefulness and attitude towards technology predict immersive technology adoption. It is also revealed that the adoption affects tourists’ perceived value and engagement, which, in turn, affects tourists’ satisfaction and loyalty.
Originality/value
The study has integrated a research model that combines both antecedents and consequences of immersive technology adoption where few empirical investigations were revealed to draw conclusions on this research area. Also, missing relations have been included and tested in the research model.

Purpose
This study aims to investigate the effects of financial aid via zakat and the perceived learning–teaching process on the educational outcomes of undergraduate students in Malaysia.
Design/methodology/approach
Approximately 350 zakat recipients (mustahiq) were selected to evaluate their educational outcomes, measured by the learning process, student readiness and academic performance. Partial least squares (PLS) regression was used to test the selected samples and approve the hypothesis.
Findings
In accordance with the underlying theories, the results of the PLS regression highlighted several major findings: financial aid, through zakat indeed increases positive effects in the learning process; zakat aid is found to increase student readiness in the education process and academic performance of undergraduate students; and student readiness in the education process plays a significant role in mediating the effect between zakat aid and the learning process and academic performance. This study also demonstrates that the learning process is equally important for student readiness and academic performance.
Originality/value
Importantly, this study contributes novelty by exploring the impact of zakat in education, specifically the higher education sector, because previous studies have enormously discussed zakat as a poverty-mitigating topic. The findings of this study are essential for zakat stakeholders to understand the contribution of zakat to developing human capital, particularly post-COVID-19 in Malaysia.

Abstract
Purpose
The COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath sent the entire educational system across the globe topsy-turvy. Virtual classrooms, online lectures and online evaluations became the order of the day, replacing traditional face to face classroom interactions and examinations conducted physically. While it may be possible to reach out to a larger audience in remote places via online platforms, the new medium lacks personal touch of the past, and is known to cause physical and psychological problems for participants. This study collects primary data from a representative sample of students from emerging economies to study the factors that influence intention to pursue online education.
Design/methodology/approach
ANOVA, Kruskal–Wallis test, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and multiple linear regression (MLR) have been used to test our hypothesis. We have also used text mining to corroborate statistical test results and ascertain the sentiment of students towards online learning.
Findings
This study not only confirms findings in extant literature that “benefits” is an important factor. It also identifies new factors such as “health”, “evaluation”, “class duration” and “student qualification”, that influence student intention to pursue online education. Sentiment analysis shows that students have positive sentiment coupled with trust towards online education. Text mining shows that “mode of class”, “time or duration of class” and “quality of learning” are important features that students consider.
Originality/value
This is one of the few studies to use quantitative plus text mining method of research to understand intention to pursue online education.

Purpose
Cilia serves numerous biological functions in the human body. Malfunctioning of nonmotile or motile cilia will have different kinds of consequences for human health. More specifically, the directed and rhythmic beat of motile cilia facilitates the unidirectional flow of fluids that are crucial in both homeostasis and the development of ciliated tissues. In cilia-dependent hydrodynamic flows, tapering geometries look a lot like the structure of biological pathways and vessels, like airways and lymphatic vessels. In this paper, the Carreau fluid model through the cilia-assisted tapered channel (asymmetric) under the influence of induced magnetic field and convective heat transfer is investigated.
Design/methodology/approach
Lubrication theory is a key player in the mathematical formulation of momentum, magnetic field and energy equations. The formulated nonlinear and coupled differential equations are solved with the aid of the homotopy perturbation method (HPM). The graphical results are illustrated with the help of the computational software “Mathematica.”
Findings
The impact of diverse emerging physical parameters on velocity, induced magnetic field, pressure rise, current density and temperature profiles is presented graphically. It is observed that the cilia length parameter supported the velocity and current density profiles, while the Hartman number and Weissenberg number were opposed. A promising effect of emerging parameters on streamlines is also perceived.
Originality/value
The study provides novel aspects of cilia-driven induced magnetohydrodynamics flow of Carreau fluid under the influence of induced magnetic field and convective heat transfer through the asymmetric tapered channel.

Purpose
Enzymes play a pivotal role in orchestrating essential biochemical processes and influencing various cellular activities in tissue. This paper aims to provide the process of enzyme diffusion within the tissue matrix and enhance the nano system performance by means of the effectiveness of enzymatic functions. The diffusion phenomena are also documented, providing chemical insights into the complex processes governing enzyme movement.
Design/methodology/approach
A computational analysis is used to develop and simulate an optimal control model using numerical algorithms, systematically regulating enzyme concentrations within the tissue scaffold.
Findings
The accompanying videographic footages offer detailed insights into the dynamic complexity of the system, enriching the reader’s understanding. This comprehensive exploration not only contributes valuable knowledge to the field but also advances computational analysis in tissue engineering and biomimetic systems. The work is linked to biomolecular structures and dynamics, offering a detailed understanding of how these elements influence enzymatic functions, ultimately bridging the gap between theoretical insights and practical implications.
Originality/value
A computational predictive model for nanozyme that describes the reaction diffusion dynamics process with enzyme catalysts is yet not available in existing literature.

Purpose
Despite the burgeoning popularity of virtual gifting in live streaming, research lacks an in-depth understanding of the drivers behind this behavior. Using para-social relationship (PSR), this study aims to capture viewers’ lively social feelings toward the streamer as the key factor leading to the purchase behavior of virtual gifts. It also aims to establish a theoretical link between PSR and viewers’ holistic experience in live streaming as captured by cognitive absorption and aims to investigates the role of technological features (i.e. viewer–streamer and viewer–viewer interactivity, streamer-level and viewer-level deep profiling and design aesthetics) in shaping viewers’ experience.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on 433 survey responses, this study employs a combination of structural equation modeling and neural networks to offer valuable insights into the relationships between the technological environment, viewer experience and viewer behavior.
Findings
Our results highlight the salience of PSR in promoting the purchase of virtual gifts through cognitive absorption and the importance of the technological environment in eliciting the viewer experience. This study sheds light on the development of PSR in a technological environment and its relationship with cognitive absorption.
Originality/value
By applying PSR to conceptualize viewers’ perceived connection with the streamer, this study extends the research on purchase behavior in the non-shopping context by providing an enlightened understanding of virtual gift purchase behavior in live streaming. Moreover, by theoretically linking PSR with cognitive absorption, virtual gift purchase and technological features of live streaming, it enriches the theory of PSR and bridges the gap between the design practice of supporting the IT infrastructure of live streaming and research.

Abstract
Purpose
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic led to the rise of online learning in Hong Kong. Online learning was identified as the only solution to meet students’ learning needs in the higher education sector during this chaotic period. This research aims to explore students’ perceptions of online teaching and learning from home under a health emergency via a comparison of undergraduate and postgraduate students’ experiences.
Design/methodology/approach
A total of 174 postgraduate students and 286 undergraduate students in various universities and colleges in Hong Kong were surveyed in this study.
Findings
The results show that postgraduate students generally gave more positive feedback on individual and environmental prerequisites, alongside pedagogical and institutional support, and were more motivated in online classes as compared to undergraduate students. Undergraduate students considered the shift to online education in light of the COVID-19 pandemic to be timely and rated their level of discipline with respect to online learning higher than did postgraduate students.
Originality/value
This study enables educators to better understand the first-hand experiences of students across different levels of study in Hong Kong, as well as to examine the possibility of establishing online education as a more prevalent mode of study in the future. The COVID-19 pandemic has educated us on the significance of being well-prepared to ensure quality education continues when emergencies and disturbances arise.
