Abstract
Technological innovation is crucial for businesses to achieve development and profitability through enhancing core capabilities and differentiating competitive advantages. The key to organisational survival is boosting innovation performance focused on technological innovation, as SMEs lack resources and competencies compared to large companies. Entrepreneurship is a topic of active research to overcome SMEs’ resource and size limits. This is because entrepreneurs’ capabilities are considered more important in small and medium-sized enterprises closely related to corporate success than in large enterprises that can receive organisational support. In addition, a company’s holding capacity is a direct driver of creating differentiated competitiveness because it can pursue product differentiation through high levels of market capabilities and technology capabilities. Therefore, this study attempts to demonstrate entrepreneurship and technological innovation for SMEs. Reviewing previous studies, the authors derive the organisational capabilities needed by the organisation for innovation and examine how these organisational capabilities (technological, market, and operational capabilities) relate to entrepreneurship and technological innovation.

Abstract
Purpose: Industry 5.0 is characterized by a revolution in the industrial field where humans collaborate with machines. This study aims to highlight the role of the concept of the “Digital Twin” (DT) within Industry 5.0, aiming to predict the effects of natural disaster scenarios in advance and to take preventive measures more effectively.
Need for the study: The innovations brought by Industry 5.0 demonstrate the possibility of creating DTs of cities to predict and minimize the effects of natural disasters. This is of great importance in terms of preparation for future natural disasters and risk management.
Methodology: This study was conducted by analyzing the fundamental principles of Industry 5.0 and the concept of DTs. Scientific literature and industry reports were examined to explore how DTs can be used in the field of risk management related to natural disasters.
Findings: The use of DTs has significant potential in simulating natural disaster scenarios in advance and predicting potential damages. For example, through DTs of cities, the effects of disaster scenarios such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and floods can be analyzed in advance, and necessary measures can be taken accordingly.
Practical implications: These findings offer important practical implications for decision-makers working in areas such as urban planning and infrastructure management. The use of DTs can assist in the development of preparation and risk management strategies for natural disasters, thereby minimizing the impact of disasters and ensuring the safety of individuals.

Abstract
Purpose
The manufacturing industry and the producer service industry have a high degree of industrial correlation, and their integration will cause changes in the complex industrial network topology, which is an important reason for the synergistic effect. This paper describes the topology of industrial systems using complex network theory; further, it discusses how to identify the criticality and importance of industrial nodes, and whether node characteristics cause synergistic effects.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the input-output data of China in 2007, 2012 and 2017, this paper constructs the industrial complex network of 30 Chinese provinces and cities, and measures the regional network characteristics of the manufacturing industry. The fixed-effect panel regression model is adopted to test the influence of agglomeration degree and centrality on synergies, and its adjustment mechanism is explored.
Findings
The degree of network agglomeration in the manufacturing industry exerts a negative impact on the synergistic effect, while the centrality of the network exerts a significant promoting effect on the synergistic effect. The results of adjustment mechanism test show that enhancing the autonomous controllable ability of the regional industrial chain in the manufacturing industry can effectively reduce the effect of network characteristics on the synergistic effect.
Research limitations/implications
Based on input-output technology, this paper constructs a complex industrial network model, however, only basic flow data are used. Considerable in-depth and detailed research on the economic and technological connections within the industry should be conducted in the future. The selection of the evaluation index of the importance of industrial nodes also needs to be further considered. For historical reasons, it is also difficult to obtain and process data when carrying out quantitative analysis; therefore, it is necessary to make further attempts from the data source and the expression form of evaluation indicators.
Practical implications
In a practical sense this has certain reference value for the formulation of manufacturing industrial policies the optimization of regional industrial layout and the improvement of the industrial development level. It is necessary to formulate targeted and specialized industrial development strategies according to the characteristics of the manufacturing industry appropriately regulate the autonomous controllable ability of the industrial chain and avoid to limit the development of industries which is in turn limited by regional resources. Industry competition and market congestion need to be reduced industry exchanges outside the region encouraged the industrial layout optimized and the construction of a modern industrial system accelerated.
Social implications
The above research results hold certain reference importance for policy formulation related to the manufacturing industry, regional industrial layout optimization and industrial development level improvement. Targeted specialized industrial development strategies need to be formulated according to the characteristics of the manufacturing industry; the autonomous controllability of the industrial chain needs to be appropriately regulated; limitation of regional resources needs to be avoided as this restricts industrial development; and industry competition and market congestion need to be reduced. Agglomeration of production factors and optimization of resource allocation is an important part of a beneficial regional economic development strategy, and it is also an inevitable choice for industrialization to develop to a certain stage under the condition of a market economy. In alignment with the research conclusions, effective suggestions can be put forward for the current major industrial policies. In the process of promoting the development of the manufacturing industry, it is necessary for regional governments to carry out unified planning and guidance on the spatial layout of each manufacturing subsector. Regional governments need to effectively allocate inter-industry resources, better share economies of scale, constantly enhance the competitive advantages and competitiveness of development zones and new districts and promote the coordinated agglomeration and development of related industries with input industries. Industrial exchanges outside the region should be encouraged, the industrial layout should be optimized and the construction of a modern industrial system should be accelerated.
Originality/value
Complex network theory is introduced to study the industrial synergy effect. A complex industrial network of China's 30 regions is built and key network nodes are measured. Based on the dimensionality of the “industrial node – industrial chain – industrial complex network”, the research path of industrial complex networks is improved.

Abstract
Purpose
The online healthcare platform (OHP) has become an essential element of the healthcare system, representing a technological shift in the job responsibilities of medical professionals. Drawing on a technology-based job demands–resources (JD-R) model, this study aims to examine how the technological characteristics of OHP affect doctors’ OHP use psychology and behavior.
Design/methodology/approach
This empirical study was based on a survey conducted among 423 doctors with OHP use experience. The proposed model underwent assessment through partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to reveal the effects of technology-based job demands (i.e. technology-based work overload and technology-based work monitoring) and resources (i.e. perceived usefulness, facilitating conditions and IT mindfulness) on doctors’ OHP fatigue and continuance use intention.
Findings
Results suggest that technology-based work monitoring, perceived usefulness and facilitation conditions have significant impacts on doctors’ psychological and behavioral responses to using OHP, whereas technology-based work overload and IT mindfulness have a single impact on continuance use intention and fatigue of OHP.
Research limitations/implications
It assists doctors, healthcare administrators, policymakers and technology developers in understanding OHPs’ technological characteristics, enabling them to harness its benefits and mitigate potential challenges. Additionally, given the self-reported cross-sectional data from China, future studies can improve generalizability and adopt experimental methods or longitudinal designs with objective data.
Originality/value
It extends the research on OHP by employing a technology-based JD-R model to explore work attributes and dual effects associated with OHP’s technological characteristics. It also enriches existing research by examining the role of OHP’s technological characteristics in doctors’ psychological and behavioral responses.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to apply the spacing effect of capacitive imaging (CI) sensors to inspect and differentiate external flaws of the protective module, internal flaws of the protective module and external flaws of the metallic module in oil and gas pipelines simultaneously. Through experimental verification, a method for differentiating three distinct kinds of flaws derived from the spacing effect of CI sensors has been demonstrated.
Design/methodology/approach
A 3Dimensions (3D) model for simulating the inspection of these flaws was established by using COMSOL. A novel CI sensor with adjustable working electrode spacing was designed, and a modular CI system was developed to substantiate the theoretical findings with experimental evidence. A method for differentiating three distinct kinds of flaws derived from the spacing effect of CI sensors was established.
Findings
The results indicate that the method can successfully discriminate external flaws of the protective module, internal flaws of the protective module and external flaws of the metallic module using CI sensors.
Originality/value
The method for differentiating three distinct kinds of flaws derived from the spacing effect of CI sensors is vital for keeping the transportation safety of oil and gas pipelines.

Purpose
Loss of control and air crashes are frequently caused by aircraft faults. Therefore, a practical control strategy can prevent aircrafts from losing control without control laws reconstruction. The purpose of this paper is to propose a sideslip trim fault-tolerant control strategy for wing damage and aileron stuck.
Design/methodology/approach
The six degree of freedom model of the damaged aircraft is constructed by using the non-center-of-mass approach on the basis of aerodynamic database, which is calculated in XFlow. This paper adopts the sideslip command for trim, combining with the adaptive nonlinear dynamic inversion control to achieve fault-tolerant control.
Findings
This strategy can effectively improve the control margin of the remaining control surface and guarantee maneuverability of the aircraft after serious faults.
Originality/value
The original and wing-damaged aircraft models are reconstructed in CATIA, and the aerodynamic data is calculated in XFlow. Sideslip angle is adopted to compensate additional roll moment caused by wing damage or aileron stuck. Adaptive nonlinear dynamic inversion control, combined with sideslip trim, is applied to achieve fault-tolerant control.

Purpose
While prior studies predominantly focus on the overall impact of digital transformation on environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance, this study employs dynamic capability theory to examine two different dimensions of digital transformation, namely digital transformation quantity and digital transformation structure, and how they influence the ESG performance of enterprises. The mediating roles of social attention and green innovation are investigated to further explore the underlying mechanisms.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors apply fixed effects models and empirically test the hypotheses using samples of Chinese A-share listed companies from 2011 to 2020. In addition, difference-in-differences and instrumental variable methods are used in the robustness test.
Findings
When digital transformation is categorized into quantity and structure, the impact mechanisms are found to be distinct. Externally, digital transformation quantity attracts social attention, aiding enterprises in evolutionary adaptability and acquiring resources to support ESG practices. Internally, digital transformation structure fosters green innovation, enabling enterprises to overcome technical obstacles and harness technology’s potential to enhance their ESG performance.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the current knowledge by differentiating digital transformation into quantity and structure, which helps to further explore the mechanism of digital transformation on ESG and address the research gap. Meanwhile, the concept of adaptability in the dynamic capability theory is employed to construct the model, offering a deeper perspective and expanding the theory. This nuanced investigation of the mediating effects of social attention and green innovation elucidates how different dimensions of digital transformation contribute to the development and utilization of dynamic capabilities, thereby enhancing enterprises’ ESG performance.

Purpose
This study aims to explore the spatial impact of an increase in the minimum wage on the labor productivity of star-rated hotels in China.
Design/methodology/approach
The impact is analyzed by using the dynamic spatial Durbin model.
Findings
The authors find a U-shaped link between the increase in minimum wage and labor productivity of star-rated hotels. The long-term impact of a minimum wage increase has a greater influence on labor productivity than its short-term effects. While there is no notable spatial spillover impact observed in the sample of 31 provinces in China, the authors do identify a spatial spillover effect of the minimum wage rises on the labor productivity of star-rated hotels in the central area. Furthermore, they observe heterogeneity across China. The eastern and western regions exhibit a U-shaped relationship, whereas the central region exhibits an inverted U-shaped relationship.
Practical implications
The findings of this study allow government agencies to get a more comprehensive comprehension of the actual consequences of minimum wage hikes on the tourism and hospitality sector, thereby establishing a solid basis for them to develop appropriate policies. Moreover, it offers a variety of suggestions aimed at enhancing the quality and efficiency of hotel management.
Originality/value
Research on the effects of minimum wage standards is scant in the hospitality industry. Based on human capital investment theory, this study examines the effect of the minimum wage standard hikes on labor productivity of star-rated hotels from the spatial perspective, filling the existing research gap.

Purpose
Tourist attractions promote their marketing campaigns by releasing short tourism promotional videos for their potential to promote tourists’ decision-making. However, few scholars have studied the impact of short videos of cultural heritage tourism sites on potential tourists’ destination decisions.
Design/methodology/approach
In this study, the Wudang Mountain Complex, a world cultural heritage site, was used as a case study, and stimulus-organism-response theory was applied to forecast the behavioral motives of prospective tourists. About 401 responses from those who watched the short videos of the Wudang Mountain Complex were collected for the structural equation modeling test.
Findings
The study’s findings have validated the link among tourists’ cultural involvement, cultural experience, positive emotions, cultural identity, destination image, cultural heritage value and destination decisions. Positive emotions and cultural heritage values directly and significantly influence decision-making. Meanwhile, cultural involvement is very important, and it indirectly influences decision-making through cultural experience, positive emotions and cultural heritage values. However, cultural identity and destination image do not significantly influence decision-making.
Originality/value
The research enhances comprehension of how short video promotions influence cultural heritage tourism. It sheds light on the development of tourism promotions for cultural heritage sites and the creation of short tourism videos.
