Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to map the “Desktop Research” (DR) output in Pakistan, as part of the growing field of research globally. It also ascertains the productive institutions and prolific authors along with their collaboration patterns.

Design/methodology/approach

Bibliometric techniques were used to quantitatively analyze the DR published in Pakistan. The publications from 1981 to 2021 were retrieved from Scopus. A total of 1,802 publications were retrieved and used for analysis.

Findings

Results indicated an unpredictable increase in DR output from approximately 100 to 400 records during the past five years. The year 2020 was most productive in DR research showing the excess use of secondary data by researchers in COVID-19. The focus of researchers towards DR was consistently rising. Medical journals were found to publish DR extensively. Majority of the publications were contributed by collaborative work and researchers of the USA were found as the most collaborative with Pakistani authors. Publications of single category journals, open access journals and international collaboration get more citations.

Research limitations/implications

The results of the analysis rely only on a single database, Scopus, for retrieving the publication data.

Practical implications

The study has practical implications for the policymakers and higher education development organizations to introduce the DR as a course in academic schools.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to review DR in the context of Pakistan through bibliometric analysis. This comprehensive overview provides a better understanding of the development of the field and possible practice implications.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to capture the challenges faced by large industrial firms in implementing employee green behaviour. It uses the gamification-based Octalysis framework for identifying motivational drives and entwins it to self-efficacy theory seeking to motivate and engage the employees through game techniques.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper uses qualitative approach where semi-structured interviews were conducted through snowball sampling technique with managers in senior positions in power sector holding significant decision-making authority. The interviews were transcribed and were analysed thematically.

Findings

This study offers compelling evidence that industrial firms are grappling to inculcate pro-environmental behaviour largely losing on incentivising motivation. Gamification can provide an enjoyable framework balancing intrinsic and extrinsic motivational drives.

Practical implications

This study offers a framework applicable to organisations across sectors, addressing challenges in implementing green behaviour by leveraging four phases of game mechanics. It tackles issues related to motivation and demand for incentives by striking a balance between intrinsic and extrinsic motivations.

Originality/value

This research stands out by incorporating game mechanics, specifically designed through Octalysis, to boost self-efficacy and encourage green behaviour among employees. Furthermore, it is in harmony with Sustainable Development Goals and circular principles.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the evolution of cybersecurity in autonomous vehicles over the past decade, focusing on influential publications, leading authors, key themes and emerging research trends.

Design/methodology/approach

A systematic literature review was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses approach, with data extracted from The Lens database and analyzed using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix. This study provides a quantitative overview of academic trends from 2014 to 2023. The analysis reveals significant growth in scientific production, predominantly driven by the USA, China and the UK. Central themes include network security, cyberattack prevention and regulatory frameworks.

Findings

The findings emphasize that cybersecurity, artificial intelligence (AI) and regulation are critical for developing secure and reliable vehicular systems.

Research limitations/implications

Future research should focus on enhancing security in vehicle-to-everything, vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications by improving protocols and integrating AI.

Practical implications

Key themes identified include trust in security, reliability and user experience.

Social implications

The analysis highlights future research directions, particularly the integration of AI with sustainable development and autonomous transportation policies.

Originality/value

This study provides a quantitative overview of academic trends from 2014 to 2023 regarding the theme of cybersecurity and self-driving cars.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the present study is to reveal the antecedents of the new green product success (NGPS) of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that manufacture in Türkiye with a middle-income economy. To this end, a research model for the serial mediating role of green human capital (GHC) and green adaptive ability (GAA) in the relationship between green mindfulness (GM) and NGPS was developed and tested. Determining the driving forces of NGPS is essential due to the contributions of SMEs manufacturing, especially in middle-income economies, such as Türkiye, to the national economy.

Design/methodology/approach

The present study used partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the hypothesized relationships. The study hypotheses were tested in a sample of 396 manufacturing enterprises, qualified as SMEs in Türkiye with ISO 14001 certificates.

Findings

Empirical evidence indicates that GM, GHC and GAA act as significant antecedents of NGPS. Furthermore, empirical evidence demonstrates that GHC and GAA, in turn, mediate the relationship between GM and NGPS.

Research limitations/implications

Managers, especially in manufacturing SMEs, should be aware that they need to develop intangible resources to improve NGPS. Increased investment in GM results in higher levels of GHC and GAA, which collectively leads to improved NGPS.

Originality/value

The current literature has not previously explained the mechanism of the relationship between GM and NGPS. The originality of the present study, which discusses the relevant research gap, is to develop an integrated framework to investigate how GM impacts NGPS, specifically for SMEs, and to test it empirically.

Abstract

Purpose

This study purposes a model based on competitive advantage theory, social identity theory and signaling theory that explores the relationship between GHRM and employer branding mediated by corporate environmental sustainability and organizational safety climate and employees experience as a moderator.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were gathered using a survey questionnaire from 329 employees working in this sector. Structural Equational Modeling was employed for data analysis through Smart PLS.

Findings

Results confirm that GHRM has a positive influence on corporate environmental sustainability and corporate environmental sustainability has a positive influence on organizational safety climate. Further, the results confirm that the organizational safety climate has a positive influence on employer branding. The results of partial least squares multi-group analysis show that difference between job experience influences employer branding. The results also lend support to the mediating effects of corporate environmental sustainability between GHRM and organizational safety climate, and the mediating effect of organizational safety climate between GHRM and employer branding.

Practical implications

The findings of the study guide policymakers and management of the textile industry to emphasize GHRM in order to make a working climate clean and safe. This working environment will be their competitive edge and a source of their organization branding.

Originality/value

HR literature has largely overlooked the physical work environment, instead focusing on psychological safety, for example (job stress, emotional exhaustion). This study presents a model demonstrating that a green work environment, fostered through GHRM practices enhances employer branding.
