Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to elucidate the role of governance in design, development and sustenance of intergenerational living and learning campuses for seniors and teenagers and identifying the considerations, barriers and opportunities for place making in such shared campuses.
Design/methodology/approach
A single-case study approach based on semi-structured interviews using photo-elicitation and on-site observations was undertaken at the co-located campus of an aged care facility and school in Australia. The data was analysed through inductive-deductive content analysis using the lens of a pre-conceived place making framework.
Findings
Strong and adaptive governance on an organizational level is important for the design, development and sustenance of intergenerational living and learning campuses to overcome the multi-faceted barriers posed by the community and segregation between the aged care and education sectors. There is a need for co-locating organizations to mesh the intergenerational vision with their individual policies and goals using a spatio-environmental, psychological, socio-cultural, organisational and politico-economic lens on a micro, meso and macro scale.
Originality/value
This research contributes to the emerging literature on intergenerational living and learning campuses for seniors and teenagers using the lens of place and place making, particularly in the Australian context where intergenerational programmes are still in their infancy.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to analyze Samuel Gompers’ use of innovative management practices involving authority and voluntarism at the American Federation of Labor (AFL) as a way of suggesting a role for a labor leader as a management guru. It is a case study attempt to insert a labor presence into the canon of management leaders whose accomplishments are taught in academic programs and appear in the field’s textbooks.
Design/methodology/approach
The methodology involved close reading and dialogue with primary sources on Samuel Gompers and the AFL from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, along with more recent reviews and critiques of the union’s foundation period.
Findings
The paper analyzes Gompers’ approach to nonhierarchical decision-making through his doctrine of voluntarism. The paper discusses jurisdictional disputes in the AFL in the early 20th century, exploring internal rebuffs Gompers originally received to his suggestion of voluntary solution building. The narrative recounts his tenacity in pursuing voluntarism and his use of sub-federative departments after 1907 to damp down jurisdictional disputes without fiat from himself or the AFL executive board.
Originality/value
To the best of the author’s knowledge, this paper is one of the first in the management history literature to present a labor leader with blue-collar origins as a management guru, expanding the representativeness of the progenitors of the field.

Abstract
Business incubators (BIs) represent a significant category of entrepreneurial support organizations. They provide support to entrepreneurs engaged in traditional and social ventures. They can facilitate the development of inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystems by linking entrepreneurs and stakeholders. However, incubators struggle to promote diversity and inclusion among their cohorts, and to ensure equal access to their support. There has been recent growing attention to supporting underrepresented entrepreneurs. In this context, neurodiversity has gained considerable attention. Consequently, specialized incubators and programs targeting neurodiverse entrepreneurs have emerged, and BIs have widely adopted explicit communication strategies to attract neurodiverse candidates. Considering these initiatives, this chapter explores how BIs can support neurodiverse individuals during their entrepreneurial journeys. The qualitative method uses semi-directive interviews with neurodiverse entrepreneurs to understand their experiences and expectations regarding BIs. The data was analyzed through inductive coding, resulting in three themes: (1) Specific yet diverse needs of neurodiverse entrepreneurs; (2) Visions of neurodiverse entrepreneurship; and (3) Representation of neurodiverse entrepreneurs. Findings show that neurodiverse entrepreneurs place significant hope in incubators to address the specific challenges they experience. However, to achieve their full potential in fostering an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem, incubators must be mindful of unintentionally reinforcing stereotypes, stigmatization, and hierarchization of neurodiverse individuals. Incubators should diversify the role models for neurodiverse entrepreneurs they promote and broaden the perspectives on neurodiverse entrepreneurship. The implications of intersectional identities on neurodiverse individuals' experience of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial support should be considered. Involving neurodiverse entrepreneurs in the design and governance of incubation programs is important.

Purpose
Following recent high-profile audit failures, concern has been expressed that auditors are not demonstrating sufficient skepticism when exercising professional judgment. In particular, client assumptions and estimations relating to hypothetical valuations in financial reporting are not being challenged. This paper seeks to address the issue by advancing a decision-making framework aimed at guiding auditors beyond regulatory reductionist thinking towards an enhanced understanding of the cognitive processes which shape professional judgment in forming a reliable audit opinion.
Design/methodology/approach
Drawing on the normative philosophical and theological teachings of Bernard Lonergan, the authors' decision-making framework embodies reflective thinking and the data of consciousness to highlight the central role played by enquiry in the dynamics of understanding, judgment and decision-making. Such enquiry elicits challenge of the management bias inherent in hypothetical valuations.
Findings
Auditing through a Lonerganian lens allows auditors to reflect on their approach to objective decision-making by offering a set of cognitive tools to enhance the enquiry essential for nurturing professional skepticism.
Originality/value
This paper contributes to the literature by developing the somewhat neglected discourse on the cognitive processes essential for professional skepticism and audit judgment. The authors demonstrate how Lonerganian self-appropriation intensifies an awareness of the recursive cognitive activities pertinent to objective judgment and decision-making. This awakened consciousness has the potential not only to change how auditors question evidence to make informed judgments and decisions, but also to normalize the practice of challenge.

Abstract
Purpose
Green banking has evolved in the financial sector to reduce the negative impact of economic progress. However, customers’ behavior remains indifferent towards bank’s green initiatives across nations. Therefore, this study examines the various factors affecting the behavior of Indian banking customers towards green banking by extending the theory of planned behavior (TPB).
Design/methodology/approach
The study employed a quantitative research approach and distributed a self-administered questionnaire. Data from the 293 green banking service users in India’s Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) have been collected using purposive and snowball sampling techniques. SPSS 26 and SmartPLS 3 were used to analyze data.
Findings
The findings explained that environmental concern substantially predicts customer attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavior control towards green banking. Moreover, all the constructs within the TPB model were found to substantially impact customers’ inclination to adopt green banking, thereby leading to actual behavior.
Research limitations/implications
Academically, the findings have broadened the TPB model’s application by adding a new construct in the context of green banking while confirming its applicability. Practically, it advises financial regulators and banking personnel to prioritize establishing a conducive environment for customers, characterized by the accessibility of green banking services under favorable conditions and at affordable rates.
Originality/value
The study enhanced the understanding towards green banking by correlating different variables and extending the TPB model using SmartPLS 3 in the domain of green banking.

Abstract
Purpose
This study investigates the relationship between perceived organizational support (POS), employee resilience and workload on burnout in the consulting sector, which is characterized by long working hours and high pressure.
Design/methodology/approach
The proposed hypotheses were tested using data collected from a sample of 169 management consultants. The key constructs were examined using the PROCESS statistical package.
Findings
The findings indicate that POS has a positive effect on exhaustion, cynicism and professional inefficacy. This effect is partially mediated by employee resilience for all three dimensions. A significant moderation between workload and POS has been found for the cynicism dimension of burnout, suggesting that the positive effect of high POS is especially useful for consultants with high workloads (exceeding 60 working hours per week).
Practical implications
These findings highlight the importance of making employees feel supported in high-pressure work environments, as this has both a direct effect on employees' mental health and an indirect effect by increasing resilience, which in turn reduces the risk of burnout.
Originality/value
The study addresses the paucity of research on the workloads of management consultants and how they navigate burnout. The findings show that both personal resources (in this case, resilience) and organizational resources (POS) have a favorable impact on preventing burnout.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to achieve a comprehensive understanding of how the intricate interconnections between oil price fluctuations, supply chain disruptions and shifting demand patterns collectively shape inflation dynamics within the Chinese economy, especially during critical periods such as the Covid-19 pandemic and geopolitical events like the Russia–Ukraine conflict. The importance of assessing the impact of oil price volatility on China’s inflation becomes particularly pronounced amidst these challenging circumstances.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses the Markov Regime-Switching generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (MRS-GARCH) family of models under student’s t-distributions to measure the uncertainty of oil prices and the inflation rate during the period spanning from 1994 to 2023 in China.
Findings
The results indicate that the MRS-GJR-GARCH-in-mean (MRS-GARCH-M) models, when used under student’s t-distributions, exhibit superior performance in modeling the volatility of both oil prices and the inflation rate. This finding underscores the effectiveness of these models in capturing the intricacies of volatility dynamics in the context of oil prices and inflation. The study has identified compelling evidence of regime-switching behavior within the oil price market. Subsequently, the author conducted an analysis by extracting the forecastable component, which represents the expected variation, from the best-fitted models. This allowed us to isolate the time series of oil price uncertainty, representing the unforecastable component. With this unforecastable component in hand, the author proceeded to estimate the impact of oil price fluctuations on the inflation rate. To accomplish this, the author used an autoregressive distributed lag model, which enables us to explore the dynamic relationships and lags between these crucial economic variables. The study further reveals that fluctuations in oil prices exert a noteworthy and discernible influence on the inflation rate, with distinct patterns observed across different economic regimes. The findings indicate a consistent positive impact of oil prices on inflation rate uncertainty, particularly within export-oriented and import-oriented industries, under both of these economic regimes.
Originality/value
This study offers original value by analyzing the impact of crude oil price volatility on inflation in China. It provides unique insights into the relationship between energy market fluctuations and macroeconomic stability in one of the world’s largest economies. By focusing on crude oil – a critical but often overlooked component – this research enhances understanding of how energy price dynamics influence inflationary trends. The findings can inform policymakers and stakeholders about the significance of energy market stability for maintaining economic stability and guiding inflation control measures in China.
