Abstract
Purpose
This paper investigates how a firm’s organizational culture profile (configuration of organizational culture types) influences the effectiveness of operations management (OM) practices in improving their targeted outcomes.
Design/methodology/approach
We developed alternative hypotheses based on contingency and paradox perspectives to predict the effectiveness of OM practices in dominant (one prevalent organizational culture type) vs eclectic (opposing organizational culture types at a similar level) organizational culture profiles. They were tested using data from over 7,000 respondents across 330 manufacturing plants in 15 countries.
Findings
Consistent with contingency theory, OM practices oriented toward innovation are more efficacious in plants with an adhocracy-dominant organizational culture profile and practices targeting supply chain (SC) control are less effective in a clan-dominant organizational culture profile. Consistent with paradox theory, OM practices oriented toward efficiency or SC control are more effective in plants with an eclectic organizational culture profile.
Practical implications
This study offers relevant practical implications regarding the effectiveness of various OM practices, whether they are used in an aligned dominant organizational culture profile or in an eclectic organizational culture profile.
Originality/value
Previous research on organizational culture provides a limited understanding of the effectiveness of OM practices in the presence of strategic tensions, such as opposing organizational cultures or opposing targeted outcomes. This research concludes that the validity of the contingency or paradox perspective depends on strategic tensions faced, with important implications for research and practice.

Abstract
Purpose
This study addresses the production optimization of a cellular manufacturing system (CMS) in magnetic production enterprises. Magnetic products and raw materials are more critical to transport than general products because the attraction or repulsion between magnetic poles can easily cause traffic jams. This study needs to address a method to promote the scheduling efficiency of the problem.
Design/methodology/approach
To address this problem, this study formulated a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model to describe the problem and proposed an auction and negotiation-based approach with a local search to solve it. Auction- and negotiation-based approaches can obtain feasible and high-quality solutions. A local search operator was proposed to optimize the feasible solutions using an improved conjunctive graph model.
Findings
Verification tests were performed on a series of numerical examples. The results demonstrated that the proposed auction and negotiation-based approach with a local search operator is better than existing solution methods for the problem identified. Statistical analysis of the experiment results using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software demonstrated that the proposed approach is efficient, stable and suitable for solving large-scale numerical instances.
Originality/value
An improved auction and negotiation-based approach was proposed; The conjunctive graph model was also improved to describe the problem of CMS with traffic jam constraint and build the local search operator; The authors’ proposed approach can get better solution than the existing algorithms by testing benchmark instances and real-world instances from enterprises.

Abstract
Purpose
Online customer reviews is an important information resource for product innovation. This study aims to investigate the impact of online customer reviews on iterative innovation of software products and the moderating roles of product complexity in the process of online reviews influencing product iterative innovation.
Design/methodology/approach
To empirically test the hypotheses, this paper built a panel data of 500 software products from 2019 to 2021 and applied Poisson regression analysis.
Findings
Empirically results reveal that both sentiment and quantity of online customer reviews have positive effects on iteration innovation of software products. In addition, the authors find that product complexity negatively moderates the relationship between online reviews and iterative innovation.
Practical implications
This study suggests that firms can acquire valuable information from customers’ online reviews for product iterative innovation and improvement. However, for high-complexity products, it may be difficult for enterprises to obtain useful information for iterative innovation from online reviews. On the other hand, this study provides a reference for firms to choose more useful online reviews from the perspective of sentiment.
Originality/value
This paper provides a new finding that there is a positive relationship between online customer reviews and iterative innovation of software products. Moreover, the authors also provide a deeper understanding of how online customer reviews affects iterative innovation by examining the moderating roles of product complexity.

Purpose
The purpose of the paper is to examine the trade structure of India’s pharmaceutical sector with a focus on intra-industry trade (IIT).
Design/methodology/approach
This paper starts with analysing export destinations and import sources using significant trade shares; the study calculates IIT between India and its consistent trade partners at an aggregate level and considers the problem of categorical aggregation at a disaggregate level. To determine the determinants of IIT at different levels, the Vector Error Correction model used production-related data to identify the drivers of IIT. Also, the Granger causality test was used for short-run causality.
Findings
This study examining India’s consistent trade partners from 1993 to 2023, finds long-run association and short-run causality. The results show a significant long-run association between total IIT and factors like unskilled labour share, invested capital, fuel consumption, total input and net value added. The key low-vertical IIT (LVIIT) drivers are invested capital, unskilled labour, fixed capital and total inputs. The negative long-run association between the total input and LVIIT obtained implies a rising level of total input cost, leading to a fall in IIT and LVIIT. Also, a negative association is obtained for unskilled labour and total IIT, while a positive association is obtained for LVIIT. In the short run, causality indicates that total IIT is influenced by invested capital and fuel consumption, while unskilled labour shares and total inputs drive LVIIT. Both IIT types impact invested capital, highlighting the need for policy intervention in input markets. It provides insights for improving quality trade expansion and correcting production-related factors.
Originality/value
Unlike other studies on the pharmaceutical trade in India, this study analyses India’s pharmaceutical trade for a longer time period, focusing on destination-wise analysis and calculating the intra-industry trade index while taking care of the problem of categorical aggregation. Further, the study attempted to find the long-run association with production-related drivers.

Abstract
Purpose
This research examines how to enhance financial performance (FP) through the interplay between information technology and their suppliers in the supply chain. On this, the research objective is to assess the role of integration with suppliers (IWS) and integration by suppliers (IBS) in the interface between integrated information technology (IIT) and FP in the supply chain.
Design/methodology/approach
A theoretical model was designed, and hypotheses were tested with structural equation modelling and qualitative data from a survey of 205 multi-industry companies from Egypt.
Findings
The findings indicate that IIT has a positive significant relationship with financial performance, in this case, partially mediated jointly by IWS and IBS.
Originality/value
This study contributes to the literature by establishing a measurement approach for the proposed duality of supplier integration. A crucial implication of this duality is the requirement of IWS and IBS to enhance the effect of IIT on FP in supply chain partnerships and the fact revealed in our research that IWS precedes IBS in supply chains.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to theoretically hypothesise and empirically explore the relationships between operations and supply chain management (O&SCM) and marketing/sales (OMS) collaboration, social media (SM) usage, organisational resilience and performance. This paper considers how collaboration through SM can enhance organisational resilience capability and performance.
Design/methodology/approach
A survey was conducted among 395 organisations in the UK. Structural equation modelling was applied to test the research hypotheses.
Findings
The empirical findings of this study support the significant mediating role of O&SCM–OMS collaborative activities through internal and external SM for better organisational resilience, capability, cost efficiency, customer-focused and business performance. This also extends to exploring differences based on product versus service industries.
Originality/value
Through empirical research, the findings contribute to the theoretical development and managerial guidance on O&SCM–OMS collaboration and resilience capability by emphasising the strategic deployment of SM across functions through the lens of contingency theory and resource-based view.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore whether organization modularity affects the operation performance of manufacturing firms through the mediator of digital embeddedness and the moderator of organization compatibility.
Design/methodology/approach
Hierarchical regression, mediation effect test macro and bootstrap were conducted to empirically analyze two waves of longitudinal survey data from 284 Chinese manufacturing firms.
Findings
Digital embeddedness (digital technology, digital infrastructure and digital culture) mediates the relationship between organization modularity and operation performance. In addition, organization compatibility positively moderates the relationship between the three types of digital embeddedness and operation performance. Under a high organization compatibility degree, digital embeddedness has a positive impact on operational performance, but under a low organization compatibility degree, its impact is negative.
Practical implications
Organizational modularity is an important measure for manufacturers to gain competitive advantages, especially in the industrial transformation driven by the digital economy. Manufacturers need to realize modularity immediately and consider the compatibility of digitalization so that they can embed digital technology more flexibly and adaptively and gain operational advantages.
Originality/value
This study is very relevant for industrial manufacturers, as they urgently need to know how to gain competitive advantages through organizational change in digital transformation. This study provides many reliable theoretical guidelines. Specifically, this study tells manufacturers how to better realize digital embedding and performance through modularity and how to improve the compatibility between digitalization and organization.

Purpose
Customer resource allocation efficiency (RAE) refers to the ability of customers to use, allocate and manage their available resource inputs to produce valuable outputs. This study draws on organizational entrainment theory (OET) to examine how the implementation of supplier digitalization affects customer RAE through supply chain entrainment.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on supplier and customer data disclosed by Chinese A-share listed firms from 2009 to 2022, this study uses fixed effects panel data models to empirically examine the impact of supplier digitalization on customer RAE and the mechanistic role of supply chain entrainment.
Findings
The results show that supplier digitalization significantly increases customer RAE. It improves RAE by influencing the three dimensions of supply chain entrainment (the bullwhip effect, inventory management coordination and risk management coordination).
Practical implications
This study provides important insights into how managers can adapt the external digital environments and maintain synchronous operations with their supply partners. Our findings demonstrate how managers can fully leverage the advantages of digitalization of their suppliers to improve their own RAE through supply chain entrainment strategies.
Originality/value
This study introduces the concept of supply chain entrainment to reveal how firms optimize their own resource allocation strategies and achieve efficient operations. Our research enriches the understanding of supply chain governance in the digital age and contributes to the literature on supply chain digitalization.

The chapter examines the relevance of systematic inquiries as part of a holistic approach to safeguarding. Based on sociological approaches on silence in organisations and against the background of the concept of transitional justice, it is demonstrated that the importance of systematic inquiries for the development of a critical momentum is to be highly valued if sport organisations want to seize the chance to transform. Inquiries uncover voice-inhibiting and abuse-permissive structures in sports organisations and, in this way, help to initiate transformations in the sports system. For victims of abuse, inquiries play an important role in helping them to realise their right to receive the truth, as well as initiating a process of reconciliation. To achieve this, it is essential that inquiries pursue a survivor-based and participatory approach. This is demonstrated in the chapter, using the example of an inquiry conducted in Germany.
