Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the mediating role of green employee empowerment (GEE) in the relationship between green discipline management and green involvement with green employee creativity and innovation (GECI) within public universities in Yemen. The research explores how the components of green human resource management (GHRM) influence green creativity and innovation through employee empowerment.
Design/methodology/approach
The study utilizes both primary and secondary data. The primary data were gathered through structured questionnaires distributed to 363 employees in public universities in Yemen. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM) with AMOS to assess the relationships among the variables.
Findings
The findings reveal that green discipline management and green involvement have a significantly positive impact on GEE and GECI. Furthermore, GEE partially mediates this relationship, which demonstrates that empowered employees are more likely to contribute to environmentally sustainable creativity and innovation.
Originality/value
This research helps better understand how GHRM practices, such as discipline management and involvement, can promote green creativity and innovation through employee empowerment. By examining the mediating role of GEE, the study provides valuable insights for academic institutions and organizational leaders seeking to integrate sustainability into human resource (HR) practices and policies.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the existing literature on green human resource management (GHRM) and its correlation with environmental performance (EP) and energy saving behavior (ESB) by using the PRISMA methodology.
Design/methodology/approach
A thorough examination was undertaken involving a total of 25 articles which included a diverse range of years and geographic areas.
Findings
The findings suggest a growing emphasis on the intersection of GHRM, EP and ESB, supported by a substantial increase in research in recent times. The literature in question was mostly contributed by Malaysia, Pakistan, Canada and Thailand. Majority of research endeavors were carried out within the context of manufacturing companies. The studies under scrutiny mostly used quantitative research methodologies and often applied the resource-based view (RBV) and theory of planned behavior (TPB) frameworks to investigate the relationships between GHRM, ESB and EP. In addition, structural equation modeling (SEM) has garnered significant attention as a commonly used analytical methodology. This analysis emphasizes the growing importance of GHRM strategies such as green recruiting, green performance management and green remuneration, in fostering sustainable organizational results.
Originality/value
This work offers significant contributions to the existing body of research in this particular sector; shedding light on its present condition and pinpointing prospective avenues for future inquiries.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to examine the effects of economic uncertainty on Shariah stock returns (SR) in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation countries. This study also compares the impacts of uncertainty on Shariah and conventional stocks.
Design/methodology/approach
A panel vector autoregressive model was used to capture the dynamic relationships between variables. Granger tests, impulse response functions and forecast error variance decomposition are applied to obtain a comprehensive interpretation.
Findings
The empirical results indicated that temporary economic uncertainty has a significant adverse impact on Shariah SR. The stability was also observed over time. This study also revealed that Shariah stocks were affected by economic uncertainty, although they were designed to mitigate such effects. In addition, Shariah stocks show lower sensitivity to uncertainty. However, their recovery was slower than that of conventional stocks.
Practical implications
Short-term investors are advised to diversify their portfolios. In the long term, the stability of Shariah SR enables investors to pursue their financial goals. Policymakers are encouraged to improve investor confidence and develop policies to accelerate the recovery of the Sharia stock prices.
Originality/value
This study proves the existence of uncertainty in the Shariah stock market and explores the comparative impact of uncertainty on Shariah and conventional stocks. Furthermore, by incorporating uncertainty as a variable, this study contributes to expanding the efficient market hypothesis, offering a deeper understanding of market behaviour under uncertain conditions.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to explore two main objectives. Firstly, it examines the mediating roles of green human resource management practices (GHRMPs) and green employee creativity (GEC) between green transformational leadership (GTL) and green employee behaviour. Secondly, it investigates the moderating effect of green individual values (GIVs) on the indirect relationship between GTL and green employee behaviour.
Design/methodology/approach
The study involved 326 employees from ECOTEL-certified hotels in India. Analysis was conducted using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) AMOS and MACRO.
Findings
The results indicate a direct relationship between GTL and green employee behaviour. Additionally, GHRMPs and GEC partially mediate this relationship. Furthermore, GIVs positively moderate the indirect relationship between GTL and green employee behaviour, specifically moderating the path between GHRMPs and GEC.
Originality/value
This study fills a significant gap in the literature by investigating the combined effects of GTL, GHRMPs, GEC and GIVs on employee pro-environmental behaviour. Understanding these relationships is crucial for organizations aiming to implement effective green initiatives and cultivate a culture of environmental responsibility among employees. This study is ground-breaking in its approach, delving into the complex network of interconnected variables through both mediation and moderation analyses. By doing so, it aims to uncover the intricate mechanisms influencing employees' inclination towards pro-environmental behaviour.

Abstract
Purpose
With increasing pressure to achieve environmental sustainability, hotel organizations implement green human resource management (GHRM) to inspire employees’ green behavior to improve environmental performance. Following the conservation of resources theory, this research aims to examine how GHRM fosters employee green advocacy.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were obtained from 315 employees from 24 hotels in China. This study used the SPSS PROCESS to test the mediation and moderated mediation model.
Findings
The results showed that GHRM has a positive impact on green advocacy, and harmonious environmental passion (HEP) fully mediates the positive relationship between GHRM and green advocacy. Furthermore, the relationship between GHRM, HEP and green advocacy is moderated by environmentally specific transformational leadership (ESTL). Subsequently, the findings imply that the indirect effect of GHRM on green advocacy via HEP is stronger while ESTL is higher.
Originality/value
This study extends the research on GHRM and green advocacy by exploring how and when GHRM stimulates employee green advocacy via HEP in the Chinese context.

Abstract
Purpose
The authors originally explore the factors for blockchain technology (BCT) adoption in agricultural supply chains (ASCs) to enhance circularity and understand the dependencies, hierarchical structure and causalities between these factors.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on an extant literature review and expert opinion, the present study identified ten enablers for adopting BCT to leverage the circular economy (CE) practices in the ASCs. Then, using an integrated interpretive structural modeling and decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (ISM-DEMATEL) approach, hierarchical and cause–effect relationships are established.
Findings
It was observed that traceability is the most prominent enabler from the CE perspective in ASCs. However, traceability, being a net effect enabler, will be realized through the achievement of other cause enablers, such as seamless connectivity and information flow and decentralized and distributed ledger technology. The authors also propose a 12 Rs framework for enhancing circularity in ASC operations.
Research limitations/implications
The paper identifies enablers to BCT adoption that will enhance circularity in ASC operations. The ISM hierarchical model is based on the driving and dependence powers of the enablers, and DEMATEL aids in identifying causal relationships among the enablers.
Practical implications
The study's findings and proposed 12 Rs framework may help the practitioners and policymakers devise effective BCT implementation strategies in ASCs, thereby empowering sustainability and circularity.
Originality/value
This study enriches the literature by identifying and modeling enablers for BCT adoption in ASCs. The study also proposes a new 12 Rs framework to help enhance ASC circularity.

Abstract
Purpose
This study examines the implementation and performance of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) practices in the Pokhara Regional International Airport Project (PRIAP), a key public infrastructure initiative in Nepal. Given airports' significance to Nepal’s economy, particularly for tourism and trade, the research highlights the unique safety challenges in airport construction, addressing gaps in OHS management in developing countries.
Design/methodology/approach
A case study methodology focused on the PRIAP enabled a thorough analysis of safety practices. Data were gathered using structured questionnaires from various stakeholders. The Cronbach’s alpha and relative importance index (RII) were used to assess response reliability and ranked factors affecting safety performance.
Findings
The study identifies both strengths and weaknesses in the project’s OHS practices. While plant and equipment handling and financial aspects, such as budget allocation for safety measures and accident compensation, were deemed satisfactory, significant deficiencies were found in hazard identification and the investigation of near misses. These results suggest that improvements are needed in proactive safety management, particularly in worker-management communication.
Research limitations/implications
This study provides valuable insights but is limited by its single-site focus and use of descriptive statistics. Future research should employ advanced statistical methods, like ANOVA, and include multiple construction sites to capture a broader range of OHS challenges. Evaluating the long-term effectiveness of proposed interventions is also essential. Addressing these limitations will enhance the development of comprehensive safety management strategies tailored to the specific needs of construction projects in developing countries.
Practical implications
This study provides practical recommendations for improving OHS practices in airport construction and similar large-scale projects in developing countries. Enhanced hazard identification and improved communication among stakeholders can help reduce accidents and boost project efficiency.
Social implications
Improving safety regulations and culture can reduce workplace injuries, enhancing workers' well-being and quality of life. This research supports stronger public policies, helping lower economic burdens from accidents, promoting social stability and increasing public trust in regulatory bodies.
Originality/value
This research contributes to the limited literature on OHS in airport construction projects in developing countries, particularly in Nepal. The case study methodology provides a detailed examination of safety practices and offers a framework for improving OHS in similar projects.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to dissect and understand the latent themes of Islamic work ethic (IWE) and explore the driving factors of IWE research.
Design/methodology/approach
Structural topic modeling (STM), a sophisticated machine learning technique, was used to analyze a corpus of 205 articles sourced from the Scopus database. These articles cover the 36 years of research on IWE, from 1988 to 2024. Moreover, negative binomial regression was applied to examine the driving factors of IWE research.
Findings
The STM analysis unfolds ten topics in conjunction with IWE including individual success, workplace dynamics, organizational work ethics, knowledge management, employee citizenship behavior, financial ethics, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, performance enhancement and leadership. The further STM outputs included word clouds, prevalence proportions, correlation matrix, heatmap, relationship of topics with metadata, topic prominence in the publishing journals and, finally, illustrating trends and future prospects of research on IWE. The results of negative binomial regression reveal that number of authors, article age, journal indexing, authors from multiple countries and number of references are strong drivers of fostering research in IWE, by having significant positive impacts on total citations.
Social implications
The insights from this study provide valuable guidance for businesses and organizations looking to integrate IWE principles into their operations. By promoting values such as fairness, hard work and ethical behavior, organizations can foster a more inclusive and morally grounded workplace culture. This, in turn, may lead to enhanced employee satisfaction, greater organizational commitment and improved overall performance. Additionally, the emphasis on ethical practices can contribute to broader societal benefits, such as increased trust in business practices and a stronger alignment with social responsibility initiatives.
Originality/value
This is a unique study that explores the latent themes and characteristics of the IWE literature through STM and provides insights on the future research directions. In addition, this study also examines the driving factors of IWE research.

Abstract
Purpose
Through a case study for Iran, this research seeks to pinpoint the dominant causes of delay and cost overruns in two standard Support of Excavation methods (Bracing strut and top-down construction) in deep excavation projects from various points of view involving contractors, consultants and owners. This investigation identifies the root causes, compares them with existing literature to find similarities and differences with tunnelling and construction projects and proposes practical solutions.
Design/methodology/approach
The primary factors were identified after an extensive literature review and expert interview. Subsequently, a questionnaire was designed to classify related factors, considering impact indices, occurrence likelihood and overall significance. Eventually, the findings of the analysis were visually represented through cause-and-effect diagrams.
Findings
The results indicate that “inflation and exchange rate fluctuation” is the top-rated cause, followed by designers’ limited overall perspective of implementation issues. Also, comparing the roles of related teams shows that the contractor sector is the most responsible for delay and overruns in both methods. Finally, practical solutions are presented regarding the main affecting factors.
Originality/value
Prior research often addresses delay and costs in construction, but insufficient focus is given to deep excavation projects, particularly in Iran. This study not only fills the identified knowledge gap but also delves into the causes of delay, pursued until the fourth bone in some cases and proposes a solution framework derived from previous research, case studies and expert insights to mitigate construction delay.

Abstract
Purpose
Environmental concerns and the urgent issues of climate change have shifted the organization’s focus toward achieving sustainability. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the complex relationships among green human resource management (GHRM), green innovation (GI), green human capital (GHC) and sustainable performance (SP).
Design/methodology/approach
To investigate the relationships, the study employed partial least square structural equation modeling to run an analysis on 384 managers working in the hotel sector in Egypt, selected through a simple random sampling technique.
Findings
The results demonstrate that GHRM positively influences both GI and GHC. Additionally, GI and GHC have a positive impact on SP. Furthermore, GHRM directly contributes to SP, with GI and GHC acting as significant mediators in the relationship between GHRM and SP.
Practical implications
This study advances theoretical understanding and offers practical insights by employing the resource-based view theory and the ability-motivation-opportunity theory.
Originality/value
This research introduces and empirically tests a novel conceptual framework that comprehensively assesses the impacts of GHRM, GI and GHC on SP.
