Abstract
Purpose
The incompatibility of natural fibers with polymer matrices is one of the key obstacles restricting their use in polymer composites. The interfacial connection between the fibers and the matrix was weak resulting in a lack of mechanical properties in the composites. Chemical treatments are often used to change the surface features of plant fibers, yet these treatments have significant drawbacks such as using substantial amounts of liquid and chemicals. Plasma modification has recently become very popular as a viable option as it is easy, dry, ecologically friendly, time-saving and reduces energy consumption. This paper aims to explore plasma treatment for improving the surface adhesion characteristics of sisal fibers (SFs) without compromising the mechanical attributes of the fiber.
Design/methodology/approach
A cold glow discharge plasma (CGDP) modification using N2 gas at varied power densities of 80 W and 120 W for 0.5 h was conducted to improve the surface morphology and interfacial compatibility of SF. The mechanical characteristics of unmodified and CGDP-modified SF-reinforced epoxy composite (SFREC) were examined as per the American Society for Testing and Materials standards.
Findings
The cold glow discharge nitrogen plasma treatment of SF at 120 W (30 min) enhanced the SFREC by nearly 122.75% superior interlaminar shear strength, 71.09% greater flexural strength, 84.22% higher tensile strength and 109.74% higher elongation. The combination of improved surface roughness and more effective lignocellulosic exposure has been responsible for the increase in the mechanical characteristics of treated composites. The development of hydrophobicity in the SF had been induced by CGDP N2 modification and enhanced the size of crystals and crystalline structure by removing some unwanted constituents of the SF and etching the smooth lignin-rich surface layer of the SF particularly revealed via FTIR and XRD.
Research limitations/implications
Chemical and physical treatments have been identified as the most efficient ways of treating the fiber surface. However, the huge amounts of liquids and chemicals needed in chemical methods and their exorbitant performance in terms of energy expenditure have limited their applicability in the past decades. The use of appropriate cohesion in addition to stimulating the biopolymer texture without changing its bulk polymer properties leads to the formation and establishment of plasma surface treatments that offer a unified, repeatable, cost-effective and environmentally benign replacement.
Originality/value
The authors are sure that this technology will be adopted by the polymer industry, aerospace, automotive and related sectors in the future.

Abstract
Purpose
This study serves a dual purpose. First, it aims to explore the phase-wise progression that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups must undertake to become successful ecosystem partners, supporting large industrial firms in their circular transition. Second, it seeks to examine how these small firms manage change and foster collaborative cultures through strategies enabled by positive organizational scholarship (POS) during their phased evolution.
Design/methodology/approach
This study provides empirical evidence through a multiple case study-based approach involving 12 born-circular SMEs/startups from 5 diverse Indian industrial sectors. Insights were gathered by conducting two rounds of semi-structured interviews with 24 participants and one validatory seminar with eight participants.
Findings
This research identified three distinct and complementary phases – compare, compete and collaborate – that SMEs/startups can undergo to emerge as successful ecosystem partners. Each phase encompasses specific business practices, including various circular activities. These activities serve as clear indicators of the smaller firms’ potential competence in aiding larger firms during their circular transitions.
Originality/value
This paper contributes to the theoretical understanding of the circular economy by outlining a trajectory for SMEs/startups to establish successful partnerships. Another contribution is the application of POS as a positive change management paradigm to facilitate circularity. Additionally, the study highlights the context of developing nations, which remain underexplored compared to their developed counterparts in circularity initiatives.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to provide trilogy in the emerging market for the establishment of business, economy and environment which is the new word for the development of any nation to attain sustainable development. This research explores the prospective crowdshipper's willingness to participate in crowdshipping services through a motivational factor.
Design/methodology/approach
To understand the trend and future of this concept, Google Trends Analysis (GTA) has been used. The theoretical model has been validated empirically using a survey of 287 Indian (Generation Y and Z) urban participants, but focused is on Generation “Z” participants and subsequent analysis have been carried out using structural equation modelling.
Findings
A theoretical framework has been developed connecting the various factions of the crowdsourcing process thus providing an overall view of the process strategy for logistics start-ups. This conceptual framework of sharing economy in emerging market can benefit the prospective suppliers and their target receivers. Particularly trust in crowdshipper plays a significant mediating role between subject factors and next generation user willingness to participate in crowdshipping services for sustainable last-mile delivery.
Originality/value
The present theoretical foundations and frameworks have been studied to get an idea of the main aspects of the field. It has the potential to provide the impetus for collaboration with the various stakeholders thus achieving the sustainable development process. The practical inference of this study is the usability in terms of the plugin application for e-retailer in emerging markets.

Abstract
Purpose
The objective of this study is to systematically identify, categorize and assess the driving factors and interdependencies associated with various types of healthcare waste. The study specifically focuses on waste that has been managed or is recommended for treatment through the application of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) methodologies.
Design/methodology/approach
To accomplish the study’s objectives, interpretive structural modeling (ISM) was utilized. This analytical tool aided in quantifying the driving power and dependencies of each form of healthcare waste, referred to as “enablers,” as well as their related variables. As a result, these enablers were classified into four distinct categories: autonomous, dependent, linkage and drivers or independents.
Findings
In the healthcare sector, the “high cost” (HC) emerges as an autonomous variable, operating with substantial independence. Conversely, variables such as skill wastage, poor service quality and low patient satisfaction are identified as dependent variables. These are distinguished by their low driving power and high dependency. On the flip side, variables related to transportation, production, processing and defect waste manifest strong driving forces and minimal dependencies, categorizing them as independent factors. Notably, inventory waste (IW) is highlighted as a salient issue within the healthcare domain, given its propensity to engender additional forms of waste.
Research limitations/implications
Employing the ISM model, along with comprehensive case study analyses, provides a detailed framework for examining the complex hierarchies of waste existing within the healthcare sector. This methodological approach equips healthcare leaders with the tools to accurately pinpoint and eliminate unnecessary expenditures, thereby optimizing operational efficiency and enhancing patient satisfaction. Of particular significance, the study calls attention to the key role of IW, which often acts as a trigger for other forms of waste in the sector, thus identifying a crucial area requiring focused intervention and improvement.
Originality/value
This research reveals new insights into how waste variables are structured in healthcare, offering a useful guide for managers looking to make their waste-reduction strategies more efficient. These insights are highly relevant not just for healthcare providers but also for the administrators and researchers who are helping to shape the industry. Using the classification and ranking model developed in this study, healthcare organizations can more easily spot and address common types of waste. In addition, the model serves as a useful tool for practitioners, helping them gain a deeper, more detailed understanding of how different factors are connected in efforts to reduce waste.
