Abstract

Purpose

The study aims to examine the conceptualization of online abuse (OA) and identifies theories, countries of research, top-cited articles, methodologies, antecedents, mediators, outcomes and moderators of OA and future research opportunities. Two research questions are addressed. How have the past studies on OA progressed regarding theories, context, characteristics and methodology? What future research opportunities can be done in this area?

Design/methodology/approach

This study systematically reviews, synthesizes and integrates OA literature using the well-recommended preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) rules. The literature on OA was synthesized based on the Theory–Context–Characteristics–Methodologies (TCCM) framework given by Paul and Rosado-Serrano.

Findings

Through an examination of TCCM used in OA research, the review presents an all-inclusive and up-to-date overview of the research in this arena and sets a future research agenda to spur scholarly research. This systematic literature review has analyzed top-quality sample papers, published in the past decade. As a result, it contributes to a better understanding of this relationship by analyzing the different types of use and the value added to the shopping experience.

Originality/value

This study provides groundwork for researchers and promotes a deeper understanding of OA.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to present a literature review on the emerging field of employee moonlighting, which refers to holding more than one job at a time. It also attempts to integrate the literature on employee moonlighting and present the related research themes.

Design/methodology/approach

This is a systematic literature review (SLR) using the basic guidelines of SLR. A search string is designed, and the prominent database is searched. The results are screened based on self-designed inclusion and exclusion criteria. The qualitative analysis of selected 89 research studies uses inductive thematic analysis and proposes a framework.

Findings

The outcome of the present study consists of a conceptual framework, themes and sub-themes related to employee moonlighting, propositions, and the pictorial representation of the overall outcome. The four key themes that emerged are determinants and traits of moonlighting intentions, the impact of moonlighting on employer and employee, policy, and economic implications, respectively.

Originality/value

The study provides insight into the factors that lead to moonlighting intentions and activity. The managers can understand and analyze these factors and can formulate policies to streamline the moonlighting activity with the organizational goals and for the company’s benefit. Academic scholars can adopt some research ideas from the themes and gaps suggested and can work on them in the near future.

Among the major industries in Costa Rica, agriculture has contributed significantly to the country's economy. Felipe Vargas established ‘Varcli Pinares’ 11 years ago to produce good quality bananas through sustainable operations of natural systems. This case study explores the complex dynamics surrounding the Varcli Pinares agricultural farming, aiming to shed light on its multifaceted nature and provide insights into its outcomes. The company invests in circular economy by executing decarbonisation through capture of CO2 wastes and protection of forests. The business pioneered in reducing water consumption and implementing solar energy usage in banana production through innovative tools and technologies while engaging in no-herbicide practices. The unique, sustainable packaging created through waste makes a visual impact and guides customers to online platforms. The company adheres to sustainable practices while impacting the community positively. However, as a small business maintaining sustainable practices throughout the entire supply chain and competing with big companies is difficult for Varcli Pinares. Nevertheless, the company believes its simplicity and adaptability will help it thrive in the competitive industry. Through a rigorous and systematic approach, the case study aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge in sustainable agricultural farming and provide valuable insights for practitioners and stakeholders alike.

Abstract

Regardless of where the business stood at the beginning of 2020, COVID-19 afflicted the corporate world as well as most of the workforce worked remotely due to government-mandated isolation. The range of personal and professional problems experienced due to remote working by employees was explored at one of the Non-Financial Banking companies and how the company responded to their well-being by interviewing 124 employees and a senior HR personnel. Remote work induced by COVID-19 was not a cakewalk as 56.5% of employees desired physical connectivity with colleagues, for 50.8% work done from home was not interesting and more than 50% of the respondents agreed to work more hours than usual. The outcome was anxiety for some of them. The imbalance between personal and professional life was dissipated with the support of the management as 94.4% of them got sufficient support from their respective managers and colleagues, as they were able to communicate and collaborate with them. The managerial side validated the responses in a way that a flexible and target-oriented approach was adopted for employees. They organized stress management activities and ensured connections through regular employee connect and communication by Learning and Development department. Additionally, COVID-19 advisories and guidelines were followed while engaging with employees. The work–life balance shaken due to remote work was managed with responsive humanistic management practices that had the enduring effect of garnering employee engagement levels with the organization.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to understand and analyze the aspects influencing students’ attitudes and behavior toward the use of metaverse in education. The metaverse is currently viewed as technology with immense prospects. However, the practice of the metaverse for educational motives is rarely deliberated.

Design/methodology/approach

To assess the effect of the metaverse on students' knowledge and use of resources, general interests and attitudes toward the metaverse in education, a survey was conducted. The collected data were analyzed using a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) in the first phase to address the various validity parameters. In the second phase, path analysis of the model was performed using structural equation modeling (SEM).

Findings

The study investigated how students intended to behave while using the metaverse for learning. The attitude toward adopting metaverse as technology is influenced by perceived utility and simplicity of use. This leads to behavioral intention as well. Studies reveal that the aspect of perceived usefulness is considered to be more significant in assessing the intention of use.

Research limitations/implications

This quantitative study contributes to the literature on metaverse, which is in the growing stage. In the educational sector, the existing studies are scarce; hence, the addition to the literature on metaverse is quite significant in the education domain.

Practical implications

The study benefits the students and the academicians because metaverse is largely considered an integral part of technology platforms, which has to be included in the learning systems eventually. There are few courses where the use of metaverse is already initiated at an introductory level, thus opening a broad spectrum of opportunities at all levels. It can provide scholars access to a massive array of resources, including multimedia presentations, interactive objects that support the delivery of lessons, videos, images and audio recordings.

Originality/value

This study adds to the existing literature by examining the impact of metaverse in education. The research focused on the students pursuing higher education who were mostly aware of metaverse and were open to the idea of learning and understanding through technology inclusion.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore ambidextrous leadership, a complex and multifaceted domain within leadership studies. This study examines the concept of ‘ambidextrous leadership’ from its inception, employing bibliometric analysis and the Theory–Context–Characteristics–Methods (TCCM) framework to address critical research questions and identify pathways for future investigation in leadership research.

Design/methodology/approach

To accomplish this objective, the authors conduct a bibliometric analysis and TCCM analysis of ambidextrous leadership, using data sourced from Scopus, the most extensive scientific database for review purposes. By examining 99 documents (spanning from 2007 through September 2023) related to ambidextrous leadership research from Scopus, this paper unveils insights into the performance analysis (such as publication year, noteworthy articles, prominent journals, influential authors and geographic distribution) and the evolution of scientific exploration (including key topics and themes) within the field of ambidextrous leadership over two decades. The investigation used various science mapping tools like keyword analysis, three-field plots, bibliographic coupling, co-occurrence network analysis and thematic mapping analysis. To evaluate the Bibliometric Coupling and Co-occurrence Network, a VOS viewer was used. TCCM analysis guides the future directions of research.

Findings

The bibliometric analysis reveals the publication trends, most influential authors, articles, journals, countries and important keywords. Subsequently, it presents the network connections in the field of ambidextrous leadership. TCCM analysis recognized emerging research diversifications in the literature on ambidextrous leadership.

Research limitations/implications

A single database, i.e. Scopus, was used to extract the data which poses a limitation for the current study. This study provides insights to the researchers and practitioners on a comprehensive understanding of the emerging concept of “ambidextrous leadership,” an overview of the publication trends and emerging research themes identified in the clusters, and suggests possible directions for further study using TCCM analysis.

Originality/value

This study provides the intellectual structure of ambidextrous leadership literature and its advancement over the years using bibliometric analysis and TCCM analysis.

Abstract

Purpose

Course evaluations are formative and are used to evaluate learnings of the students for a course. Anomalies in the evaluation process can lead to a faulty educational outcome. Learning analytics and educational data mining provide a set of techniques that can be conveniently applied to extensive data collected as part of the evaluation process to ensure remedial actions. This study aims to conduct an experimental research to detect anomalies in the evaluation methods.

Design/methodology/approach

Experimental research is conducted with scientific approach and design. The researchers categorized anomaly into three categories, namely, an anomaly in criteria assessment, subject anomaly and anomaly in subject marks allocation. The different anomaly detection algorithms are used to educate data through the software R, and the results are summarized in the tables.

Findings

The data points occurring in all algorithms are finally detected as an anomaly. The anomaly identifies the data points that deviate from the data set’s normal behavior. The subject which is consistently identified as anomalous by the different techniques is marked as an anomaly in evaluation. After identification, one can drill down to more details into the title of anomalies in the evaluation criteria.

Originality/value

This paper proposes an analytical model for the course evaluation process and demonstrates the use of actionable analytics to detect anomalies in the evaluation process.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the role of ethnic networking ties in immigrant entrepreneurship literature, shedding light on insights that have been overlooked in existing literature.

Design/methodology/approach

A systematic literature review was conducted using a sample of 127 articles sourced from the Web of Science database. This review used a combination of bibliometric and content analysis.

Findings

The findings revealed the underproduction in this research field. The authors identified the dual characteristics and different types of ethnic ties, presented across various stages of immigrant business, the aspects often overlooked in current research. Drawing from these results, the authors proposed a conceptual model introducing four interconnected dimensions – local context, personal level, ethnic enclave and business development stages – that collectively shape the examination of ethnic ties and suggest avenues for further research to understand their role in the immigrant entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Originality/value

This study offers three notable contributions to existing literature. Firstly, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study that systematically reviews the current research status of ethnic ties in immigrant entrepreneurship. Secondly, it uncovered the dynamic nature of ethnic ties and their roles across various immigrant business stages. Thirdly, it introduces a conceptual model that serves as a framework for future investigations, addressing the under-explored multidimensional nature of ethnic ties, thereby presenting several practical, social and theoretical implications.

Abstract

Purpose

The digital disruptions have provided alternative methods of monetary transactions. Despite the digital wave, cash as a payment option has regained its position. The purpose of this research is to investigate behavioral intentions of mobile wallet (m-wallet) users. The paper explores the dynamics of perception, behavioral intention motivation and satisfaction of m-wallet users.

Design/methodology/approach

The authors have used a self-administered questionnaire for data collection. A total of 506 responses were analysed using confirmatory factor analysis in conjunction with Structural Equation Modeling, ensuring the validity and reliability of the insights into the behavioral dynamics of m-wallet users.

Findings

The research highlights the direct impact of perceived security on m-wallet users' perceptions, which subsequently influence both direct and indirect behavioral intentions. Moreover, satisfaction emerged as a significant determinant directly shaping behavioral intentions.

Originality/value

This study contributes significantly to the existing literature by offering a comprehensive understanding of the factors driving m-wallet adoption and usage intentions, thereby equipping stakeholders and policymakers with the necessary tools to devise effective strategies to promote mobile payment technologies in North India. The study employs a multifaceted model that incorporates six key elements, providing a comprehensive understanding of the complex interrelationships among these variables.
