Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to investigate the impact of organizational identification on employees’ usage of newly introduced Accounting Information Systems (AIS), with a particular focus on the mediating influence of attitude and the moderating roles of gender and collectivism. Drawing on social identity theory, the research framework was developed.

Design/methodology/approach

Data were collected using a survey method from 500 service sector employees adapting to a newly implemented AIS. Structural equation modeling (SEM) in Mplus was used for the model testing.

Findings

The results indicate that organizational identification does not directly influence employees’ AIS usage. Nevertheless, the study findings demonstrate that it exerts an indirect influence on employees’ AIS usage through the mediation of their attitude toward the using of new AIS. The moderation of gender and collectivism emerged as crucial, showing the strongest effect of organizational identification on AIS usage among highly collectivist female employees, followed by highly collectivist male employees, and then less collectivist female employees. This relationship is weakest in less collectivist male employees.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this investigation stands as the first to integrate social identity theory with cultural values and the gender of employees, offering insights into the employees’ AIS usage.

Abstract

Purpose

To paint a more comprehensive picture of organizational ambidexterity in the hotel industry, the purpose of this study is to investigate how and when to develop a dual operating system following a theoretical rationale supported by the three-stage model of creativity and organization support theory.

Design/methodology/approach

Survey-based research strategy and questionnaire-based data collection techniques have been used in the current study. data was randomly collected from human resource managers of 16 four-star and five-star hotels. The 200 questionnaires were distributed, out of which 182 usable questionnaires were analyzed using “PROCESS macro”.

Findings

The findings show that the integrative moderated-mediation model fits the data well. Hence, the three-stage model of creativity and organization support theory is useful, and the numerical evidence verified its applicability in the hospitality industry. To conclude, the results of this study, when applied to the hotel industry, can do marvels by being more innovative with their services.

Originality/value

More recently, it has been found that long-term success is only achievable and can be sustained if exploitative and explorative innovations are balanced. So far, however, little is known about how to achieve organizational ambidexterity in the hospitality industry.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to explore the impact of cultural practices on consumers’ buying behavior in sales promotional activities toward the fashion clothing brands based on the Theory of Black-Box Model under the conditions of COVID-19 at Pakistan.

Design/methodology/approach

The study has collected data through questionnaire-based survey from 600 consumers of fashion clothing brands using convenience sampling technique in Pakistan and analyzed through PLS-SEM to find results.

Findings

The results confirmed that cultural practices and sales promotional activities have positive significant relationship with the consumers’ buying behavior during the celebration of events, also under the conditions of COVID-19. The study also found that ethnocentrism and xenocentrism are positively associated with cultural practices while social factors, physical factors, product innovation and marketing innovation with sales promotional activities.

Practical implications

The outcomes provide interesting insights about consumers’ assessment toward the sale’s promotional activities and cultural practices of fashion clothing brands during the celebration of events and guide the marketing practitioners to develop the customers edifying and environment-oriented business strategies to boost up the buying behavior in crisis situations.

Originality/value

Although prior research has widely investigated the cultural practices, sales promotion and consumers’ buying behavior in various settings, but to the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study in these domains.

Abstract

Purpose

Establishing an effective educational system is directly tied to academic leadership, a multifaceted concept that differs from one environment to another. The purpose of this research is to investigate the role of digital leadership (DL) aspects in the enhancement of technical knowledge sharing (KS) and dealing with emotional intelligence (EI) among the teaching faculty of higher education institutions (HEIs).

Design/methodology/approach

Following a quantitative and cross-sectional research design, convenient sampling is employed for data collection via a self-administered questionnaire from 320 faculty members of private HEIs in Pakistan.

Findings

Structural equation model (SEM) is used for path analysis. The results reveal a positive and significant effect of DL, aspects like visionary leadership (VL), digital citizenship (DC), systematic improvement (SI), on knowledge sharing (KS), and emotional intelligence (EI).

Practical implications

This study has highlighted the significance of DL in private HEIs. The findings of the study imply that institutional heads of higher education institutions (HEIs) can successfully manage the knowledge assets that they have and those of their staff members, ensure the successful adoption of technology and foster product and process innovation that improves organizational performance and integrates successful strategies into the educational system by demonstrating DL aspects. The research also analyzes institutional heads' present leadership strategies to enhance response to technological change and innovations, which are considered fundamental pillars of organizational success. Ultimately, this will extend the literature on adopting DL techniques towards digital transformation in the education system.

Originality/value

This study empirically confirms the role of DL aspects such as VL, DC, and SI towards KS and EI. Most of the research demonstrates the direct impact of DL on EI, whereas the aspects of DL are not directly related to KS and EI. Studies have also shown how DL enhances its role in incorporating leadership in organizations, industries, and education, mainly in Western countries. This research addresses the gap in understanding the direct effects of DL aspects on KS and EI in non-Western countries, particularly within the education sector.

Abstract

Purpose

This research aims to investigate the influence of green human resource management (HRM), with analysis and description of job position, recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment and rewards on sustainability with the resource-based view (RBV) theory as underlying theory. The extent to which absorptive capacity strengthened the “green HRM-sustainability” link as a buffering mechanism was also examined.

Design/methodology/approach

The study model was tested with empirical data gathered from 253 Indonesian oil and gas firms. The elicited data were analysed using structural equation modelling using partial least squares (PLS).

Findings

Resultantly, the (i) analysis and description of job position and (ii) recruitment positively influenced sustainability. Absorptive capacity also influenced the strength of the moderated relationship between (i) recruitment and (ii) training and sustainability.

Originality/value

As far as we know, this is the first study which assigned the moderator role of absorptive capacity in a relationship between green HRM and sustainability in oil and gas firms in Indonesia. Notably, the theoretical and practical implications of applying the empirical outcomes to the oil and gas sector were extensively discussed.

Abstract

Purpose

The current research study aims to explore the rising appeal of creative industry for institutionally embedded women entrepreneurs of rural Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Design/methodology/approach

A qualitative research methodology is adopted to conduct the research study. Primary data is collected through in-depth interviews with 38 women entrepreneurs working in two sectors of creative industry in rural Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Findings

The research study explored creative industry as the most informal, non-traditional, low cost, flexible and convenient business sector for institutionally embedded Pukhtoon women entrepreneurs of rural KP.

Practical implications

The study draws the attention of policymakers and government to consider the informal norms in which women entrepreneurship is deeply embedded, while making entrepreneurship development policies and programs. The research study drives the attention of government toward making entrepreneurial education and training facilities easily available so that the skill and talent of women entrepreneurs can be more polished and enhanced. It further suggests that if the policymakers and Government of Pakistan take positive initiations and recognize the paramount importance, the creative industry of Pakistan has the potential of contributing toward uplifting of the economy.

Originality/value

The study helps in identifying the prevailing social and cultural norms in KP that shapes the choice of women entrepreneurs toward entrepreneurship in creative industry. It emphasizes to understand the reasons, for which women in KP, opt to open their entrepreneurial ventures in creative industry.

Abstract

Purpose

To be green creative is to come up with fresh, original and practical ideas for green products, green services, green processes or green activities. The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive overview of green creativity (GC) research by tracing the development of important theories, contexts, characteristics and methodologies (TCCM), and to illustrate how they relate to one another based on the systematic review and analysis of the existing literature relevant to GC from 2013 to 2023.

Design/methodology/approach

The research takes a methodical, structured approach to its literature evaluation, identifying prior contributions and offering frameworks for future study.

Findings

This research aims to highlight the challenges associated with planning, developing and implementing GC to realize the firm’s strategic and operational goals. Comprehensive networks, important countries, notable authors, key TCCM are provided by a TCCM and bibliographic analysis of the current GC literature.

Research limitations/implications

The research addresses the concerns of managers across all types of entities and fills in the gaps, such as the skewed focus on GC’s applicability in large businesses and developing countries, as well as the limitations of a single-level analysis.

Originality/value

The research as a whole provides the taxonomy, utilization and mapping of logical concepts that strengthen GC. The study also highlights areas where more research is needed and where gaps and unresolved tensions remain. By delving into the nature of knowledge, the authors can better understand the factors that will ultimately shape the scope of future studies.

Abstract

Purpose

The present study aims to bring out the impact of consanguinity on spontaneous pregnancy loss (SPL) and on descendants’ health, among the population of north Morocco.

Design/methodology/approach

Convenience sampling was used for collecting data. A questionnaire was randomly administered to 385 couples represented by either the husband, the wife or both. The study lasted for three months, from January to March 2015.

Findings

In total, 238 valid questionnaires were analysed. The results showed that the consanguinity rate was 45.23% and that most consanguineous unions were between first cousins (91%). Data analysis revealed that SPL risk was similar in consanguineous and non-consanguineous couples (OR = 1.6; IC95% = 0.9–2.9). Also, no significant difference was observed in terms of SPL type (OR = 1.6; IC95% = 0.7–3.9) and frequency (p = 0.81). However, late SPL frequency was significantly lower in consanguineous couples (p < 0.001), whereas no significant difference was registered in terms of early SPL frequency (p = 0.73). On the other hand, consanguineous couples displayed a significantly higher risk of descendants’ health disorders in comparison with non-consanguineous ones. Moreover, the consanguineous couples had a significantly higher number of children with health disorders (p < 0.001). The risk analysis also showed that consanguineous couples displayed a significantly higher risk of congenital malformations (OR = 7.23; IC95% = 3.52–14.84) and multifactorial diseases (OR = 3.72; IC95% = 1.46–9.49), but no significant difference was observed in terms of behavioural disorders risk.

Originality/value

The population awareness regarding the negative effects of consanguinity should be raised through education programmes and premarital, prenatal and genetic counselling services.
