Abstract

Purpose

Healthcare has been facing rising challenges in recent years. To mitigate these issues, an appreciable amount of effort has been invested in studies about Healthcare 4.0. Despite the recognized importance of this topic, its recentness and multidisciplinary character are obstacles to its precise understanding. In this light, this paper aims to provide a comprehensive view of the current development of Healthcare 4.0.

Design/methodology/approach

We systematically reviewed the literature, which resulted in 130 papers retrieved from the Web of Science and Scopus databases. Quantitative and qualitative analyses were carried out using this sample.

Findings

As a result of the quantitative analysis, we notice an increasing trend in health-related studies, notwithstanding its novelty. India is also recognized as the leading reference on the subject, as it is the country with more papers in the sample and the most influential authors. On the other hand, through qualitative analysis, an extensive review and analysis of the technologies and applications of Healthcare 4.0 is presented, along with a discussion of its underexplored areas.

Originality/value

The results of this paper provide valuable knowledge to guide and encourage further analysis on this topic, including recommendations for future research directions.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper employs bibliometric analysis to explore transformative trends and emerging research patterns in the intersection of digital technology and tourism. The goal is to provide insights into the evolving landscape, identify key themes, influential authors and prominent journals, contributing to a nuanced understanding of this dynamic field.

Design/methodology/approach

This study rigorously employs bibliometric analysis from 2002 to 2023, using Scopus and Web of Science databases, yielding 2,040 Scopus and 1,389 Web of Science documents. After meticulous data selection, 575 articles were refined. Utilising VOSviewer and Biblioshiny, the analyses focus on publication trends, citations, authorship, collaborations and thematic clusters, addressing four research questions.

Findings

This bibliometric analysis reveals a significant growth in annual scientific production on digital technology and tourism, peaking at 100 articles in 2023. Key contributors include LAW R., CHUNG N. and KOO C. China leads in research output, and influential journals include “Current Issues in Tourism” and “Information Technology and Tourism.” Noteworthy trends emphasise the centrality of “smart tourism” and the interconnectedness of technology, hospitality and management in shaping future research directions.

Practical implications

Stakeholders should focus on integrating emerging technologies in tourism, emphasising areas with high research activity. Professionals must stay updated on evolving trends, adopt innovative digital solutions and collaborate to navigate the dynamic landscape.

Originality/value

This study pioneers the first bibliometric analysis on digital technology in the tourism industry, providing a unique and comprehensive exploration of the scholarly landscape from 1998 to 2023, shedding light on key contributors, influential journals and emerging trends.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the use of rose petals rich in bioactive components possessing several health benefits in the form of pigmented sweetened rose petals crush (P SRP C) at varying levels in the formulation of cookies to develop consumerfavored natural flavored food products.

Design/methodology/approach

PSRPC was used as functional ingredient in millet cookies at varying levels of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%. Developed cookies were evaluated for physical parameters, bioactive components along with their associated antioxidant activity, texture (hardness, fracturability), surface morphology and molecular interactions. Most acceptable cookies were selected on the basis of sensory evaluation.

Findings

Cookies formulated from millet flour were significantly different from wheat flour cookies. Furthermore, the incorporation of PSRPC in millet cookies increased the total phenolic content, flavonoid content and antioxidant activity. Texture analysis results showed that cookies with higher level of PSRPC had lower hardness and fracturability. PSRPC-incorporated cookies were darker and redder due to the pigments found in rose. Surface morphology and functional groups were altered on addition of PSRPC. Cookies incorporated with 10% PSRPC were highly acceptable on the basis of sensory score.

Originality/value

The current study developed newer conditions for development of cookies from PSRPC. Results foresee the potential of PSRPC as a functional ingredient in value-added food products having health benefits.

Abstract

Purpose

Diagnosing the crop diseases by farmers accurately with the naked eye can be challenging. Timely identification and treating these diseases is crucial to prevent complete destruction of the crops. To overcome these challenges, in this work a light-weight automatic crop disease detection system has been developed, which uses novel combination of residual network (ResNet)-based feature extractor and machine learning algorithm based classifier over a real-time crop dataset.

Design/methodology/approach

The proposed system is divided into four phases: image acquisition and preprocessing, data augmentation, feature extraction and classification. In the first phase, data have been collected using a drone in real time, and preprocessing has been performed to improve the images. In the second phase, four data augmentation techniques have been applied to increase the size of the real-time dataset. In the third phase, feature extraction has been done using two deep convolutional neural network (DCNN)-based models, individually, ResNet49 and ResNet41. In the last phase, four machine learning classifiers random forest (RF), support vector machine (SVM), logistic regression (LR) and eXtreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) have been employed, one by one.

Findings

These proposed systems have been trained and tested using our own real-time dataset that consists of healthy and unhealthy leaves for six crops such as corn, grapes, okara, mango, plum and lemon. The proposed combination of Resnet49-SVM and ResNet41-SVM has achieved accuracy of 99 and 97%, respectively, for the images that have been collected from the city of Kurukshetra, India.

Originality/value

The proposed system makes novel contribution by using a newly proposed real time dataset that has been collected with the help of a drone. The collected image data has been augmented using scaling, rotation, flipping and brightness techniques. The work uses a novel combination of machine learning methods based classification with ResNet49 and ResNet41 based feature extraction.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the impact of cloud computing (CC) on supply chain management (SCM).

Design/methodology/approach

The paper is conceptual and based on a literature review and conceptual analysis.

Findings

Today, digital technology is the primary enabler of supply chain (SC) competitiveness. CC capabilities support competitive SC challenges through structural flexibility and responsiveness. An Internet platform based on CC and a digital ecosystem can serve as “information cross-docking” between SC stakeholders. In this way, the SC model is transformed from a traditional, linear model to a platform model with the simultaneous cooperation of all partners. Platform-based SCs will be a milestone in the evolution of SCM – here conceptualised as Supply Chain 3.0.

Research limitations/implications

Currently, SCs managed holistically in cyberspace are rare in practice, and therefore empirical evidence on how digital technologies impact SC competitiveness is required in future research.

Practical implications

This research generates insights that can help managers understand and develop the next generation of SCM with the use of CC, a modern and commonly available Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) tool.

Originality/value

The paper presents a conceptual basis of how CC enables structural flexibility of SCs through easy, real-time resource and capacity reconfiguration. CC not only reduces cost and increases flexibility but also offers an effective solution for disruptive new business models with the potential to revolutionise current SCM thinking.

Abstract

Purpose

While off-site construction (OSC) offers a promising solution to many problems plaguing traditional construction (e.g. low productivity, waste and safety risks), a lack of standards and knowledge about OSC, especially regarding disputes, hinders its wider adoption. This study aims to address this gap by identifying and analyzing the importance levels of technical, managerial and external disputes specific to OSC projects.

Design/methodology/approach

Three steps methodology was employed in the study. Focus group discussion (FGD) technique was used to identification and finalize dispute causes found from literature and collect data for the next step. In the study, two multi-criteria decision-making MCDM (methods) [a hybrid approach-Pythagorean fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS)] were employed. While Pythagorean fuzzy AHP was used to calculate the weights of criteria, fuzzy TOPSIS analysis was used to calculate the weights of main and sub-dispute causes. Instead of using the classical AHP method, the Pythagorean fuzzy AHP method was employed due to its superiority in capturing the inherent uncertainty and ambiguity of decision-makers, giving flexibility to decision-makers with linguistic variables instead of expecting exact evaluation scores and flexibility in the integration with other methods. During the analysis of the weights of the main and sub-dispute causes, the fuzzy TOPSIS method was preferred. The fuzzy TOPSIS method involves a quicker and more straightforward decision-making process. Also, the fuzzy TOPSIS method allows the consideration of numerous alternatives and evaluation criteria and uncertainty in the decision-making process.

Findings

The analysis reveals that technical disputes pose the biggest challenge in off-site construction compared to managerial or external disputes. Specifically, “late completion, delivery and installation of components” emerged as the most significant technical dispute. Within managerial disputes, “poor planning and management of the project” ranked highest, while “the complexity of legal expressions” was the most prominent external dispute factor.

Originality/value

In the literature, three studies offer some insight on OSC disputes by analyzing the litigation cases. Nonetheless, the results can be misleading, because some disputes can be resolved before the litigation process. Therefore, the study findings can aid in foreseeing technical, managerial and external factors and in generating robust OSC contracts by considering these issues.

Abstract

Purpose

In this study, two postprocessing techniques, namely, conventional burnishing (CB) and ultrasonic-assisted burnishing (UAB), were applied to improve the fatigue behavior of 316 L stainless steel fabricated through selective laser melting (SLM). The effects of these processes on surface roughness, porosity, microhardness and fatigue performance were experimentally investigated. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of ultrasonic-assisted burnishing as a preferred post-processing technique for enhancing the fatigue performance of additively manufactured components.

Design/methodology/approach

All samples were subjected to a sandblasting process. Next, the samples were divided into three distinct groups. The first group (as-Built) did not undergo any additional postprocessing, apart from sandblasting. The second group was treated with CB, while the third group was treated with ultrasonic-assisted burnishing. Finally, all samples were evaluated based on their surface roughness, porosity, microhardness and fatigue performance.

Findings

The results revealed that the initial mean surface roughness (Ra) of the as-built sample was 11.438 µm. However, after undergoing CB and UAB treatments, the surface roughness decreased to 1.629 and 0.278 µm, respectively. Notably, the UAB process proved more effective in eliminating near-surface pores and improving the microhardness of the samples compared to the CB process. Furthermore, the fatigue life of the as-built sample, initially at 66,000 cycles, experienced a slight improvement after CB treatment, reaching 347,000 cycles. However, the UAB process significantly enhanced the fatigue life of the samples, extending it to 620,000 cycles.

Originality/value

After reviewing the literature, it can be concluded that UAB will exceed the capabilities of CB in terms of enhancing the surface roughness and, subsequently, the fatigue performance of additive manufactured (AM) metals. However, the actual impact of the UAB process on the fatigue life of AM products has not yet been thoroughly researched. Therefore, in this study, this paper used the burnishing process to enhance the fatigue life of 316 L stainless steel produced through the SLM process.

Abstract

Purpose

The growing awareness of climate risks associated with food safety issues has drawn the attention of stakeholders urging the food industry to carry out a sustainable food safety management system (FSMS). This study aims to investigate whether the critical success factors (CSFs) of sustainable FSMS can contribute to achieving climate neutrality, and how the adoption of FSMS 4.0 supported by the Industry Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) technologies moderates the impact of the CSFs on achieving climate neutrality.

Design/methodology/approach

Survey data from 255 food production firms in China and Vietnam were utilised for the empirical analysis. The research hypotheses were examined using structural equations modelling (SEM) with route analysis and bootstrapping techniques.

Findings

The results show that top management support, human resource management, infrastructure and integration appear as the significant CSFs that directly impact food production firms in achieving climate neutrality. Moreover, the results demonstrate that the adoption of FSMS 4.0 integrated with the three components (ecosystems, quality standards and robustness) significantly moderates the impact of the CSFs on achieving climate neutrality with lower inputs in human resources, infrastructure investment, integration and external assistance, and higher inputs in strengthening food safety administration.

Originality/value

This study provides empirical findings that fill the research gap in understanding the relationship between climate neutrality and the CSFs of sustainable FSMS while considering the moderating effects of the FSMS 4.0 components. The results provide theoretical and practical insights into how the food production sector can utilise IR 4.0 to attain sustainable FSMS for achieving climate neutrality.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to offer a comprehensive exploration of the potential and challenges associated with sensor fusion-based virtual reality (VR) applications in the context of enhanced physical training. The main objective is to identify key advancements in sensor fusion technology, evaluate its application in VR systems and understand its impact on physical training.

Design/methodology/approach

The research initiates by providing context to the physical training environment in today’s technology-driven world, followed by an in-depth overview of VR. This overview includes a concise discussion on the advancements in sensor fusion technology and its application in VR systems for physical training. A systematic review of literature then follows, examining VR’s application in various facets of physical training: from exercise, skill development and technique enhancement to injury prevention, rehabilitation and psychological preparation.

Findings

Sensor fusion-based VR presents tangible advantages in the sphere of physical training, offering immersive experiences that could redefine traditional training methodologies. While the advantages are evident in domains such as exercise optimization, skill acquisition and mental preparation, challenges persist. The current research suggests there is a need for further studies to address these limitations to fully harness VR’s potential in physical training.

Originality/value

The integration of sensor fusion technology with VR in the domain of physical training remains a rapidly evolving field. Highlighting the advancements and challenges, this review makes a significant contribution by addressing gaps in knowledge and offering directions for future research.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of social media analytics on firm performance using a sample of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Thailand. This study also investigated whether entrepreneurial orientation (EO) moderated the effects of social media analytics on firm performance.

Design/methodology/approach

This study used SMEs listed in the Department of Business Development of Thailand as the sampling frame. Probability sampling was used to draw the sample. A questionnaire survey was used to collect data from 334 firms. The data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling.

Findings

The results supported the positive association between social media analytics practices on firm performance. Moreover, this study found that EO moderated this association significantly. In particular, the positive association between social media analytics practices on firm performance was higher for firms that exhibit a high EO than those that exhibit a low EO. This result indicated that firms that implement social media analytics practices achieved higher performance when they exhibited a high EO.

Practical implications

Social media data analytics should be implemented to strengthen the technological competence of firms. Moreover, firms should integrate EO practices into their implementation of social media analytics to increase their ability to generate substantial improvements in their strategic implementation, thereby enabling them to gain sustainable competitiveness in their market.

Social implications

Because SMEs are the driving force for economic growth and development in Thailand, their ability to achieve higher performance when they effectively integrate EO practices into their implementation of social media data analytics could be beneficial for the sustainable development of Thailand, especially in the current data-driven era.

Originality/value

The result that EO moderates the effect in enhancing social media analytics practices’ influence on firm performance provides new knowledge that extends the boundary of research on this topic. The authors provided a theoretical explanation to clarify the way the implementation of social media analytics practices should be integrated with EO to increase the level of performance that firms achieve from such practices.
