Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to explore 232 service providers’ and policymakers’ experiences of supporting children’s well-being during the pandemic, across sectors, in 22 countries – including Kenya, the Philippines, South Africa, India, Scotland, Sweden, Canada and the USA, in the last quarter of 2020.
Design/methodology/approach
A smartphone survey delivered via a custom-built app containing mostly open-ended questions was used. Respondents were recruited via professional networks, newsletters and social media. Qualitative content analysis was used.
Findings
The findings reveal numerous system-level challenges to supporting children’s well-being, particularly virus containment measures, resource deficiencies and inadequate governance and stakeholder coordination. Those challenges compounded preexisting inequalities and poorly affected the quality, effectiveness and reach of services. As a result, children’s rights to an adequate standard of living; protection from violence; education; play; and right to be heard were impinged upon. Concurrently, the findings illustrate a range of adaptive and innovative practices in humanitarian and subsistence support; child protection; capacity-building; advocacy; digitalisation; and psychosocial and educational support. Respondents identified several priority areas – increasing service capacity and equity; expanding technology use; mobilising cross-sectoral partnerships; involving children in decision-making; and ensuring more effective child protection mechanisms.
Practical implications
This study seeks to inform resilience-enabling policies and practices that foster equity, child and community empowerment and organisational resilience and innovation, particularly in anticipation of future crises.
Originality/value
Using a novel approach to gather in-the-moment insights remotely, this study offers a unique international and multi-sectoral perspective, particularly from low- and middle-income countries.

Abstract
Purpose
The study explored how information institutions can support the resilience of parents of adolescents affected by the Russia–Ukraine war. Ukrainian parents are facing major challenges of supporting their teenagers through a difficult developmental phase while also “buffering” their war-related hardships. By supporting parents, information institutions can also support children.
Design/methodology/approach
Fifteen parents were interviewed about mental health challenges and resources that are helpful and/or missing from their support systems. Recordings of participant narratives were analyzed using the qualitative thematic analysis technique.
Findings
The findings indicate that both teens and parents rely on internal resilience skills, family, friends and community resources to support themselves. However, a number of additional resources could be offered by information institutions, including content for (1) teens on developing skills in communication, interpersonal relationships, problem solving and academic pursuits; (2) parents on child development and opportunities in their host countries; both groups on (3) both groups on mental health first aid and safe spaces to meet peers. The study recommendations will be of interest to information professionals working with families, especially families affected by disasters.
Research limitations/implications
The study relied on a small convenience sample of participants.
Practical implications
Study recommendations would be of interest to information professionals who develop and provide services to families affected by natural and manmade disasters.
Social implications
Study recommendations improve understanding of the (potential) role of information institutions and libraries in strengthening family and community resilience.
Originality/value
The study offers a rare insight into experiences of war-affect families and provides evidence-driven recommendations for information institutions to support family and community resilience.

Abstract
Purpose
The development of project managers and leadership has been highlighted as crucial for improving project success and performance, resulting in a rise of interest in project leadership research over the last two decades. While several qualitative reviews have been conducted, there have been limited quantitative and systematic reviews on project leadership. This study fills this gap by portraying the knowledge landscape and tracking the evolution of project leadership research from 1998 to 2022 through bibliometric approaches.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on 816 records, including 793 articles extracted and selected from the Web of Science database and specific journals, and 23 articles selected from three non-SCI/SSCI indexed journals, the authors used CiteSpace and bibliometrix R-package to depict visualizations of the trajectory of co-cited references, the landscape of co-occurred keywords and emerging trends in project leadership via reference co-citation analysis, keyword co-occurrence analysis and thematic mapping.
Findings
The bibliometric analyses enabled the authors to understand the conceptual aspects of project leadership and its theoretical background. Three stages of the intellectual bases were identified and tracked: the infancy phase (1998–2007), the growth phase (2008–2014) and the new development phase (2015–2022). The results of keyword co-occurrence analysis indicated that the research focus evolved from investigating traits and competences to examining the effects of traditional leadership behaviors, and then considering context-specific leadership. The findings of thematic mapping and theoretical interpretation illustrate the potential directions of the competence comparison, new and appropriate leadership, and the interaction between leadership and context.
Originality/value
This study advanced the field by providing a systematic review of project leadership, developing potential future directions for project leadership research and providing practical implications for career development and training.

Abstract
Purpose
Due to the increasing frequency of extreme weather and densifying urban landscapes, residences are susceptible to heat-related discomfort, especially those in a naturally ventilated built environment in tropical climates. Indoor thermal comfort is thus paramount to building sustainability and improving occupants' health and well-being. However, to assess indoor thermal comfort considering the urban context, it is conventional to use questionnaire surveys and monitoring units, which are both case-centric and time-intensive. This study presents a dynamic computational thermal comfort modeling framework that can determine indoor thermal comfort at an urban scale to bridge this gap.
Design/methodology/approach
The framework culminates in developing a deep learning model for predicting the accurate hourly indoor temperature of urban building stock by the coupling urban scale capabilities of environment modeling with single-building dynamic thermal simulations.
Findings
Using the framework, a surrogate model is created and verified for Dharavi, India's informal urban settlement. The results indicated that the developed surrogate model could predict the building's indoor temperature in several complex new urban scenarios with different building orientations, layouts, building-to-building distances and surrounding building heights, using five different random urban representative scenarios as the training set. The prediction accuracy was reliable, as evidenced by the mean bias error (MBE) and coefficient of (CV) root mean squared error (MSE) falling between 0 and 5%. The findings also showed that if the urban context is ignored, estimates of annual discomfort hours may be inaccurate by as much as 70%.
Social implications
The developed computational framework could help regulators and policymakers engage in more informed and quantitative decision-making and direct efforts to enhance the thermal comfort of low-income dwellings and informal settlements.
Originality/value
Up to this point, majority of literature that has been presented has concentrated on building a body of knowledge about urban-based modeling from an energy management standpoint. In contrast, this study suggests a dynamic computational thermal comfort modeling framework that takes into account the urban context of the neighborhood while examining the indoor thermal comfort of the residential building stock.
