Abstract

Purpose

Since the performance of vehicular users and cellular users (CUE) in Vehicular networks is highly affected by the allocated resources to them. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the resource allocation for vehicular communications when multiple V2V links and a V2I link share spectrum with CUE in uplink communication under different Quality of Service (QoS).

Design/methodology/approach

An optimization model to maximize the V2I capacity is established based on slowly varying large-scale fading channel information. Multiple V2V links are clustered based on sparrow search algorithm (SSA) to reduce interference. Then, a weighted tripartite graph is constructed by jointly optimizing the power of CUE, V2I and V2V clusters. Finally, spectrum resources are allocated based on a weighted 3D matching algorithm.

Findings

The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can maximize the channel capacity of V2I while ensuring the reliability of V2V and the quality of service of CUE.

Originality/value

There is a lack of research on resource allocation algorithms of CUE, V2I and multiple V2V in different QoS. To solve the problem, one new resource allocation algorithm is proposed in this paper. Firstly, multiple V2V links are clustered using SSA to reduce interference. Secondly, the power allocation of CUE, V2I and V2V is jointly optimized. Finally, the weighted 3D matching algorithm is used to allocate spectrum resources.

Abstract

Purpose

The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence has witnessed its widespread integration across various industries, contributing to enhanced productivity. However, a comprehensive exploration of the underlying factors influencing the behavior of graphic designers in employing such tools remains incomplete. This research aims to amalgamate the IDT theory with the UTAUT2 model to construct a structural model, delving into the factors affecting graphic designers’ behavior in using GenAI tools.

Design/methodology/approach

A survey was conducted with 394 respondents, and the results were analyzed using PLS-SEM.

Findings

The findings reveal that most factors proposed in both the UTAUT2 and IDT theories exert positive influences. Notably, the study highlights that AI anxiety significantly influences designers’ usage behavior.

Originality/value

This research provides a theoretical foundation and practical guidance for both graphic designers and AI developers.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of Islamic tourism intention on local tourists.

Design/methodology/approach

This research used quantitative methods. Online questionnaires were distributed and collected from those who know about Islamic tourism, have visited Islamic tourism in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia, and people who have the intention to visit Padang City as an Islamic destination. A total of 405 valid responses were gathered using non-probability purposive sampling and snowball sampling methods.

Findings

The results show that reputation significantly affects brand equity in terms of Islamic tourism for the satisfaction of local tourist. In addition, reputation significantly affects trust, intention significantly affects reputation and intention significantly affects trust regarding the impact of Islamic tourism on local tourist satisfaction.

Originality/value

To the best of the authors’ knowledge, the originality of this research is that it is the first to integrate the dimensions of brand equity (awareness, image, quality, value and loyalty) mediated by trust and reputation towards Islamic tourism intention.

Abstract

Purpose

The brake pipe system was an essential braking component of the railway freight trains, but the existing E-type sealing rings had problems such as insufficient low-temperature resistance, poor heat stability and short service life. To address these issues, low-phenyl silicone rubber was prepared and tested, and the finite element analysis and experimental studies on the sealing performance of its sealing rings were carried out.

Design/methodology/approach

The low-temperature resistance and thermal stability of the prepared low-phenyl silicone rubber were studied using low-temperature tensile testing, differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic thermomechanical analysis and thermogravimetric analysis. The sealing performance of the low-phenyl silicone rubber sealing ring was studied by using finite element analysis software abaqus and experiments.

Findings

The prepared low-phenyl silicone rubber sealing ring possessed excellent low-temperature resistance and thermal stability. According to the finite element analysis results, the finish of the flange sealing surface and groove outer edge should be ensured, and extrusion damage should be avoided. The sealing rings were more susceptible to damage in high compression ratio and/or low-temperature environments. When the sealing effect was ensured, a small compression ratio should be selected, and rubbers with hardness and elasticity less affected by temperature should be selected. The prepared low-phenyl silicone rubber sealing ring had zero leakage at both room temperature (RT) and −50 °C.

Originality/value

The innovation of this study is that it provides valuable data and experience for the future development of the sealing rings used in the brake pipe flange joints of the railway freight cars in China.

Abstract

Regarding the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, regional development banks or Bank Pembangunan Daerah (BPD) are affected by the problem of non-performing loan (NPL) that plagues national banks. This study aims to find which microeconomic and macroeconomic factors significantly influence the regional development banks’ risk-taking behaviour and the effect COVID-19 pandemic on NPL. Microeconomic factors to be examined include credit growth, profitability, capitalisation, capital adequacy, bank size, credit volume, bank liquidity, and operational inefficiency. Macroeconomic factors to be examined include regional economic growth, deposit density (DD), deposits per branch (DB), and specialisation index (SI). This study employs a fixed effect panel data model with robust standard errors. The findings show evidence that credit volume is the only microeconomic factor that significantly influences regional development banks’ risk-taking behaviour. Meanwhile, DD, DB, and SI are the macroeconomic factors that significantly influence regional development banks’ risk-taking behaviour. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic significantly influence regional development banks’ risk-taking behaviour.

Abstract

Purpose

The underground logistics system (ULS) is noted to be an innovative delivery alternative that confers benefits such as improved logistics efficiency, reduced traffic congestion and better environmental protection for society. Consumer acceptance is crucial for the widespread application of ULS. Hence, this study aims to explore the drivers affecting consumers’ willingness to adopt an ULS anchored on the uses and gratification theory.

Design/methodology/approach

An online survey was implemented among 551 Singapore citizens and structural equation modeling was adopted to examine the theoretical model.

Findings

The findings suggest that most gratification variables (i.e. hedonic gratification, environmental protection gratification (EPG) and social gratification), mediated by perceived well-being and conscious attention, have significant effects on consumer adoption of the ULS. Moreover, as shown in the results of total effects, well-being perception exerts the largest impact on consumers’ adoption of ULS, followed by conscious attention, EPG, social gratification, hedonic gratification and convenience gratification.

Originality/value

This study contributes to enriching current theoretical research on consumers’ willingness to accept ULS, and providing several practical implications for logistic service providers and the government to promote consumers’ adoption of ULS.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to examine a distinctive loan contract widely practiced in a Muslim society.

Design/methodology/approach

This research adopts a qualitative research approach. The study was divided into two main stages. Stage I research relied on documentary analysis of pagang gadai contracts. Hence, Stage II research was an in-depth study in a selected nagari, adopting an ethnography approach. The study was conducted in the district of Tanah Datar, West Sumatera, from 2020 to 2023.

Findings

The findings of this study show that the distinctive mode of contact breaks some basic rules of Islamic finance (the practice contains riba and gharar). The practice however is prevalent in the society studied due to the influence of the customary law namely the communal ownership of lands. The practice brings impacts on the society both positives and negatives.

Research limitations/implications

This study focuses on the traditional mode of pagang gadai contract, which involves the transfer of right to cultivate productive agricultural lands for an exchange of loan measured in gold measurement system and excludes other modes of pagang gadai.

Practical implications

Revision(s) of the contract mode is an urgent matter if the society to be rescued from practicing this type of contract that contains element of exploitation and oppression.

Social implications

The revision(s) is needed if the society wants to follow the teaching of Islam comprehensively, as claimed in the philosophy adopted.

Originality/value

To the best of the author’s knowledge, this is the first study on pagang gadai that focuses on impacts of the practice on the society studied.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper explores the experiences and strategies that have emerged from an Islamic university in Brunei Darussalam in its efforts to adapt to the new normal. It aims to provide a comprehensive post COVID-19 teaching and learning strategies framework and understand how the principles of Islam can be harmonised with modern practices, offering valuable lessons for educational institutions worldwide.

Design/methodology/approach

The study employed a three-fold methodology. Initially, the authors conducted a comprehensive review of the post-COVID-19 experiences within Islamic universities. Subsequently, they administered a structured questionnaire to academic staff and students at an Islamic university in Brunei, utilising Google survey forms. Based on the insights from the data analysis, strategies were carefully formulated. Ultimately, this informed the development of a framework grounded in the established strategies.

Findings

The significant findings from this study include the adoption of “e-Talaqqi” and how this can be related to Maqasid Shariah to produce a conceptual framework of post-COVID-19 strategies adaptable for Islamic Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and how that can be related to Maqasid Shariah in line with the values of Islamic-based universities.

Research limitations/implications

The applicability of the framework developed from data gathered at an Islamic university in Brunei might have certain limitations when extended to other Islamic HEIs. Future research should aim to cover more Islamic HEIs across various countries, thereby strengthening a broader applicability of the framework. Moreover, it is advisable that the developed framework undergoes statistical validation to fortify it.

Practical implications

The study's implications encompass theory, researchers, educators, policymakers, and all stakeholders concerned with the past, present, and future of HEIs, particularly in facilitating the adaptation of post-COVID-19 norms within Islamic HEIs.

Social implications

This paper holds the potential to significantly benefit society by providing invaluable insights to educators and various sectors, aiding them in enhancing their learning pedagogies.

Originality/value

This study has developed a conceptual framework that offers strategies tailored for Islamic HEIs in the post-COVID-19 era, harmonising with the principles of Islamic-based universities, in alignment with Maqasid Shariah. Consequently, this research serves as a significant contribution to the evolution of new theoretical paradigms because of COVID-19.

Abstract

Purpose

Productivity is often cited as a key barrier to the adoption of metal laser-based powder bed fusion (ML-PBF) technology for mass production. Newer generations of this technology work to overcome this by introducing more lasers or dramatically different processing techniques. Current generation ML-PBF machines are typically not capable of taking on additional hardware to maximise productivity due to inherent design limitations. Thus, any increases to be found in this generation of machines need to be implemented through design or adjusting how the machine currently processes the material. The purpose of this paper is to identify the most beneficial existing methodologies for the optimisation of productivity in existing ML-PBF equipment so that current users have a framework upon which they can improve their processes.

Design/methodology/approach

The review method used here is the preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis (PRISMA). This is complemented by using an artificial intelligence-assisted literature review tool known as Elicit. Scopus, WEEE, Web of Science and Semantic Scholar databases were searched for articles using specific keywords and Boolean operators.

Findings

The PRIMSA and Elicit processes resulted in 51 papers that met the criteria. Of these, 24 indicated that by using a design of experiment approach, processing parameters could be created that would increase productivity. The other themes identified include scan strategy (11), surface alteration (11), changing of layer heights (17), artificial neural networks (3) and altering of the material (5). Due to the nature of the studies, quantifying the effect of these themes on productivity was not always possible. However, studies citing altering layer heights and processing parameters indicated the greatest quantifiable increase in productivity with values between 10% and 252% cited. The literature, though not always explicit, depicts several avenues for the improvement of productivity for current-generation ML-PBF machines.

Originality/value

This systematic literature review provides trends and themes that aim to influence and support future research directions for maximising the productivity of the ML-PBF machines.

Abstract

Purpose

The online learning environment is a function of dynamic market forces constantly restructuring the e-learning landscape’s complete ecosystemcape. This study aims to propose an e-learning framework by integrating the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) to predict students’ Online Learning Readiness and Behaviour.

Design/methodology/approach

A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 406 students through a survey. The data were analysed using two-stage structural equation modelling and artificial neural network (ANN).

Findings

The study’s results revealed that perceived ubiquity (PUB) positively influences perceived ease of use, usefulness and attitude. Similarly, perceived mobility significantly influences perceived ease of use and attitude. Furthermore, attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control and perceived usefulness significantly influence readiness to learn online, which further influences students’ online learning behaviour. The root-mean-square error (RMSE) values obtained from the ANN analysis indicate the models’ predictive solid accuracy.

Originality/value

The study contributes to the existing literature by proposing an Online Learning Behaviour Model by integrating the TAM and the TPB frameworks in association with two additional constructs, PUB and Perceived Mobility. Secondly, this study proposes a unique triangulation framework of recommendations for learners, educators and policymakers.
