Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to provide a comprehensive review of published research on the halal value chain (HVC) that is accessible through the Scopus database.
Design/methodology/approach
A corpus of 120 research papers that were indexed by Scopus underwent an extensive investigation. The authors used the bibliometrix program and the VOSviewer software to analyze and visualize the exported data.
Findings
The results suggest a rise in scholarly investigations carried out in this specific domain, with “food supply,” “decision-making” and “supply chain management” as the most frequent emerging terms. This study contributes to the existing study by clarifying the connections between the supply chain and the HVC and setting future research directions.
Originality/value
This study makes a substantial contribution by defining a new area of academic study and establishing a previously unidentified link between the literature of halal logistics, halal supply chain and the HVC.

Abstract
Purpose
As a leading sector that has entered the international market, the Indonesian Textile and Apparel (T&A) industry has begun to focus on sustainability issues; however, this study is still limited. This paper aims to conduct a systematic review and explore future research opportunities in developing sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) in the T&A industry in Indonesia, particularly in the small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector.
Design/methodology/approach
A systematic literature review (SLR) through five academic databases, including Science Direct, IEEE Explore, Scopus, Google Scholar and Web of Science, was conducted and followed by a content analysis of the selected papers.
Findings
Directions for future research include designing a standardized and sustainable measurement of SSCM performance; analyzing SSCM practices in T&A SMEs through the concept of sustainable entrepreneurs; and exploring the application of a circular economy in the T&A industry, known as circular fashion, which is preferred by the community, affordable and environmentally friendly.
Research limitations/implications
This research only used secondary data. In-depth interviews with relevant experts should also be conducted to get a more comprehensive picture of this issue.
Originality/value
To the best of the author’s knowledge, this is the first SLR analyzing the implementation of SSCM in the T&A industry in Indonesia.

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive exploration of academic research on halal purchasing decisions and consumer behavior by integrating bibliometric and systematic review methodologies.
Design/methodology/approach
This study uses a multi-method approach, combining bibliometric and systematic review methodologies, to comprehensively analyze the domain of halal purchasing decisions and consumer behavior. A data set of 184 articles published between 2007 and 2024 was sourced from the Scopus database. The bibliometric analysis was conducted using Bibliometrix in R, facilitating performance analysis, science mapping and network analysis to explore key authors, affiliations, collaborations and thematic trends. Additionally, the systematic review examined the limitations and future research areas discussed in prior studies, providing the basis for formulating potential research questions to address identified gaps.
Findings
The study identifies significant contributions within the domain of halal purchasing decisions and consumer behavior, emphasizing the critical roles of religiosity, trust and halal certification as dominant themes. Bibliometric analysis reveals key authors, influential publications and collaborative networks, highlighting Malaysia as a central hub for research in this field. Additionally, the analysis underscores the intellectual structure and thematic evolution, identifying underexplored areas such as non-Muslim perspectives, emerging halal industries and geographic diversity. The systematic review complements these insights by addressing recurring methodological and theoretical limitations, offering targeted recommendations for future research.
Originality/value
This research uniquely combines bibliometric and systematic review methodologies to provide a comprehensive review of the halal consumer behavior literature, identifying limitations and gaps in prior studies and proposing actionable areas for future research.
