Abstract
Purpose
The COVID-19 outbreak has disrupted the habits of customers as well as their shopping behavior. This study aims to critically examine the associated benefits and challenges of online shopping from the perspective of customers in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Design/methodology/approach
A systematic review of the relevant literature published between 2020 and 2022 was conducted via performing comprehensive search query in leading scholarly databases “Scopus and Web of Science” with the restriction of their predefined subject category of “Business.” Overall, 30 research studies were selected for the review and a significant number of studies were published in 2021 (n = 15).
Findings
The research findings revealed that customers are motivated to shop online because of perceived benefits such as time-saving, convenience, 24/7 accessibility, interactive services without physical boundaries, trust, website attractiveness and cost-saving. However, challenging factors such as financial scams, privacy concerns, poor quality of products and services, fake promotions and reduced social interaction have hindered the growth of online shopping. The recommendations regarding designing marketing strategies, secured transaction, multiple payment options, trust building, protection of privacy, promotion via social media, effective mechanism to secure and timely delivery of product are helpful to improve the service quality of online shopping.
Originality/value
The outcomes of this research are valuable to online retailers and policymakers, as it highlights how the benefits can enhance customers’ shopping intentions and minimize the impact of associated challenges. This study also recommends the redesigning of user-friendly interfaces of online shopping websites and ensures their privacy, security and performance on a regular basis.

Purpose
This study systematically reviews the research landscape of humanitarian financing, identifying key themes and pathways to foster a resilient humanitarian value ecosystem.
Design/methodology/approach
A systematic review using BERTopic analysed 1,043 academic publications from the Web of Science database to uncover major themes in humanitarian financing literature.
Findings
Six core themes emerged from the study: Disaster Risk and Climate Change Resilience, Refugee Crises and Humanitarian Health Services, Preparedness and Response to Health Emergencies, Supply Chain and Logistics Fundraising, Food Security and Nutrition Insecurity and Global Health Challenges and Disease Control. The study highlights the role of financing in addressing short-term needs and promoting long-term systemic resilience, such as disaster preparedness, healthcare systems and food security.
Research limitations/implications
This study provides a comprehensive overview of key research trends in humanitarian financing. However, the reliance on academic literature limits the inclusion of insights from grey literature and practitioner reports. Future studies should adopt broader data sources and interdisciplinary approaches.
Practical implications
Findings underscore the importance of integrating emergency funds with long-term resilience investments, enhancing financial transparency and advocating innovations to optimise humanitarian operations.
Social implications
The study advocates for interdisciplinary approaches and policies connecting disaster risk reduction, healthcare, climate resilience and food security to build a sustainable humanitarian ecosystem.
Originality/value
This review proposes a novel conceptual framework based on a systematic review of literature using BERTopic, offering actionable insights into the role of humanitarian financing in addressing global crises and promoting resilience.

Abstract
Purpose
In the context of the contemporary globalized environment and the rapid progression of Industry 4.0, the existing literature suggests that national intellectual capital does play a significant role in shaping diverse economic metrics. However, the connection between national intellectual capital and total factor productivity (TFP) has been largely overlooked. This paper examines the effect of national intellectual capital on productivity across 84 countries, encompassing diverse income levels, human development index (HDI) levels and continents.
Design/methodology/approach
This study utilizes dynamic ordinary least squares (DOLS), fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS), two-stage least squares (2SLS), generalized method of moments (GMM) and pooled mean group (PMG) estimation techniques on a sample of 84 economies from 2000 to 2019.
Findings
The results reveal a significant effect of national intellectual capital on productivity. Countries with robust intellectual capital exhibit enhanced productivity and, by extension, sustainable economic growth. The findings are nuanced, illustrating varied impacts across low, middle and high-income countries and offering insights into tailored strategies for each income group. Nations with lower HDI levels derive significant benefits from investments in intellectual capital, whereas higher HDI countries experience lower returns in productivity gains from additional intellectual capital investments. Interestingly, Latin America exhibits a paradoxical negative effect of national intellectual capital on TFP.
Practical implications
This paper makes a significant contribution to the literature by extending the discourse on intellectual capital to the national level, an area that has been relatively underexplored. The comparative analysis across income groups, human development index levels and continents enriches the understanding of the multifaceted impacts of intellectual capital on productivity. These insights are valuable for policymakers, researchers and international development agencies, providing a comprehensive perspective on how intellectual capital influences productivity in diverse economic and developmental contexts.
Originality/value
To the best of our knowledge, this is the first empirical study to investigate the impact of national intellectual capital on productivity across 84 countries, considering diverse income levels, HDI levels and continents.

Abstract
Purpose
The present research study aims to understand the cause-and-effect reasons behind the job-hopping practices followed by Gen Z employees in the industry 5.0 in India. Further, in the tandem of efforts, the research study has examined the direct and indirect relationship among novice behaviour, social alienation and job-hopping in Gen Z in the information technology sector of Industry 5.0 in India.
Design/methodology/approach
The 533 Gen Z or millennial employees were chosen from northern India Industry 5.0 following the non-probability purposive sampling technique. The study follows the quantitative research approach, and the data were collected through a survey questionnaire based on standardized measuring instruments. Further, the gathered data were analysed using the structure equation modelling.
Findings
The study’s findings confer the significant direct impact of novice behaviour on job-hopping. While measuring the indirect relationship, the partial mediation effect was noticed in the relationship among novice behaviour, social alienation and job-hopping in the Gen Z employees of Industry 5.0 in India.
Originality/value
The present study will be beneficial to the investors to recognize the job-hopping reasons in Industry 5.0. Further, Gen Z employees and academicians will also receive insight into the cause and effect behind job-hopping. Such will minimize the gap between industry and academia and help Gen Z attain stable employment in Industry 5.0.

Purpose
This paper aims to deepen the understanding of robust food supply chains (FSC) in SMEs by exploring and analyzing the literature through the lenses of digital technologies.
Design/methodology/approach
The study collected data from Scopus spanning from 2010 to 2024, employing selected keywords, and processed it using VOS-viewer and Biblioshiny to derive valid inferences and theoretical arguments.
Findings
The review paper identified several key themes shaping the future of supply chain management – Sustainability in SCM, Industry 4.0, Digitalization with FSCM, Circular Economy, Food Waste with Supply Chain, Food Security and Climate Change. These themes collectively bring transformative opportunities for both the adoption of digital technologies and sustainable practices in food supply chains.
Research limitations/implications
The review found limitations are rooted in financial constraints, institutional barriers and expertise-related challenges encountered within the realm of Digitalization and FSC. Government and corporate houses should focus on these limitations as well as convert them to strengthen the SMEs of FSC.
Originality/value
The study stands out as a pioneering review that not only explores Digitalization in FSC but also explores the link and evidence of SMEs in the unorganized sector, providing unique insights into a previously underexplored area.

Purpose
This article aims to assess risks related to the supply chain 5.0 digitalization. It aims to analyze interdependencies and causal relationships between critical digital supply chain 5.0 risks, emphasizing the need for proactive management to address emerging challenges.
Design/methodology/approach
Through an extensive literature review and expert judgment, risks related to supply chain 5.0 digitalization are identified. An integrated approach for risk assessment is employed, where the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is utilized to prioritize these risks. Subsequently, the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method is employed to investigate cause-and-effect relationships among the identified top 10 risks. This comprehensive analysis forms the basis for informed strategic management decision-making.
Findings
The analysis identifies significant influences of “Dependence on technology,” “Complexity”, “Potential system failures”, and “Cyber security” while “Environmental impact” and “Socio-economic disparities” emerge as prominent risks in supply chain 5.0 digitalization. These findings offer actionable insights for management decision-making, guiding the formulation of strategies to address and mitigate critical risks.
Practical implications
The proposed integrated approach (AHP-DEMATEL) provides valuable insights for managers to effectively mitigate digital supply chain 5.0 risks and strategically respond to disruptions. By prioritizing risks, organizations can allocate resources efficiently and address the most critical challenges first, minimizing long-term damage to resilience. Embracing this approach enables practitioners to enhance overall supply chain resilience, guiding key management decisions for the development of sustainable and adaptive strategies.
Originality/value
This paper marks the first comprehensive attempt to assess supply chain 5.0 digitalization risks using decision-making methods like AHP and DEMATEL. The integrated approach contributes novel insights to the field of supply chain risk management, specifically aiding management decision-making in the face of digitalization challenges.

The study seeks to understand the possible opportunities that Industry 5.0 might offer for various aspects of inclusive sustainability. The study aims to discuss existing perspectives on the classification of Industry 5.0 technologies and their underlying role in materializing the sustainability values of this agenda.
Design/methodology/approach
The study systematically reviewed Industry 5.0 literature based on the PRISMA protocol. The study further employed a detailed content-centric review of eligible documents and conducted evidence mapping to fulfill the research objectives.
Findings
The advancement of Industry 5.0 is currently underway, with noteworthy initial contributions enriching its knowledge base. Although a unanimous definition remains lacking, diverse viewpoints emerge concerning the recognition of fundamental technologies and the potential for yielding sustainable outcomes. The expected contribution of Industry 5.0 to sustainability varies significantly depending on the context and the nature of underlying technologies.
Practical implications
Industry 5.0 holds the potential for advancing sustainability at both the firm and supply chain levels. It is envisioned to contribute proportionately to the three sustainability dimensions. However, the current discourse primarily dwells in theoretical and conceptual domains, lacking empirical exploration of its practical implications.
Originality/value
This study comprehensively explores diverse perspectives on Industry 5.0 technologies and their potential contributions to economic, environmental and social sustainability. Despite its promise, the practical evidence supporting the effectiveness of Industry 5.0 remains limited. Certain conditions are necessary to realize the benefits of Industry 5.0 fully, yet the mechanisms behind these conditions require further investigation. In this regard, the study suggests several potential areas for future research.
