Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to understand how quantum leaders influence employee work behavior through effective tasks.
Design/methodology/approach
In this study, 516 questionnaires were collected using the interval data method to explore the triggering mechanisms and paths of emerging quantum leadership on constructive deviance.
Findings
The findings indicate that quantum leadership promotes constructive deviance through facilitating recovery experience (affective path), job crafting (task path) and the chained mediation path between the two. Additionally, the moderating effect of openness to experience strengthens the pathways between quantum leadership and recovery experience, and between quantum leadership and job crafting.
Research limitations/implications
This study focuses closely on the mechanism of leadership behavior on employees, neglecting the psychological state and behavior of the leader as a key resource element in the work environment. Quantum leadership emphasizes value-bound characteristics, so the role played by quantum leaders may vary in different cultures and values.
Practical implications
First, this study calls for the organizational management focusing on the advantages of quantum leadership thinking and its positive effects in practice. Second, the mediating mechanisms of recovery experience and job crafting provide insights into how quantum leadership can be used to enhance constructive deviance. Third, this study elucidates how individual responses to organizational environment and leadership style vary in management practices. Our study helps managers better understand how individual characteristics, such as openness to experience, influence managerial behavior.
Social implications
This study enriches the qualitative research on emerging “quantum” perspectives of leadership, expands the mechanism of employee constructive deviance and highlights the need for organizations to take measures that encourage constructive deviance by their employees, as this can lead to high-quality and long-term growth.
Originality/value
Based on conservation of resources theory, authors revealed the mechanisms by which quantum leadership influences employees’ constructive deviance, confirming the mediating role of recovery experience and job crafting as well as the moderating role of openness to employee experience. We explored the moderating mechanisms of the individual trait of openness to experience in the quantum leadership-to-job crafting and the recovery experience-to-job crafting.

Abstract
Purpose
This study is devoted to examining the peer effects of engineering enterprises’ internationalization from the viewpoint of industry subdivision and how information and competition alter peer effects. Furthermore, the heterogeneity of peer effects is analyzed based on manager characteristics.
Design/methodology/approach
In this study, multiple regression analysis was conducted on a sample of 38 Chinese engineering enterprises listed in the Engineering News-Record’s top 250 international contractors over the period of 2013–2021. This study collected the paired data from the enterprise annual reports and the China Stock Market & Accounting Research database.
Findings
The results reveal that (1) there exist peer effects within the subdivided industry of the engineering field; the quality of information disclosure of peer enterprises and degree of market competition moderate the peer effects; (2) the peer effects of internationalization are more pronounced in engineering enterprises with managers who have lower ability, hold greater power or are older.
Practical implications
The findings of this study contribute to understanding the peer effect in the process of internationalization of engineering enterprises, and help enterprises to effectively supervise the irrational behavior of top managers, so as to develop better internationalization strategies.
Originality/value
The results extend peer effects to the subdivision industry of the engineering field. Furthermore, this study also enriches the relevant research on peer effects among enterprises by empirically supporting the moderating role of information and competition as well as analyzing the heterogeneity of the peer effects from the perspective of manager characteristics.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to use psychological contract theory to explore the substantial impact of illegitimate tasks on the well-being of hospitality employees. It also examines the mediating role of psychological contract breach and the moderating role of employee emotional intelligence within the proposed moderated mediation model.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected from 338 hospitality employees in Guangdong, China, and the hypotheses were examined through hierarchical regression analysis.
Findings
The results revealed that illegitimate tasks could negatively impact employee well-being through psychological contract breach. Furthermore, employee emotional intelligence was confirmed as a critical moderator that buffers the negative impact of illegitimate tasks on psychological contract breach.
Originality/value
This research offers novel insights into the dynamics affecting hospitality employee well-being by framing illegitimate tasks within psychological contract theory. It identifies the critical conditions under which employees’ well-being is impacted, thus broadening the understanding of employee–organization interactions.

Purpose
The advent of digital technologies has ushered in a new era of quality management (QM) known as Quality 4.0 (Q4.0). The successful implementation of Q4.0 requires the involvement of both leaders and employees. Leadership plays a critical role in motivating employees involved in quality practices. However, the mechanisms by which leadership inspires quality professionals to engage in continuous learning and remain vigorous in their roles are not well understood. This study aims to determine the impact of Q4.0 leadership on thriving at work (TAW) among quality professionals and to identify the underlying mechanisms.
Design/methodology/approach
Utilising the identity theory and social identity theory, a multilevel TAW model was developed. This study surveyed 63 team leaders and 243 subordinates, who are quality professionals working for companies implementing Q4.0. Multilevel structural equation modelling (MSEM) was applied to assess the hypotheses.
Findings
The study finds that Q4.0 leadership enhances TAW among quality professionals. The linkage between Q4.0 leadership and TAW is mediated by work group identification (WGI) at the group level and job identification (JI) at the individual level.
Practical implications
Insights from this study will enable organisations to make informed decisions regarding the leadership styles that best support TAW among quality professionals. By understanding the mechanisms linking Q4.0 leadership to TAW, organisations can foster both WGI and JI, ultimately enhancing engagement and performance in quality initiatives.
Originality/value
This study offers a novel contribution to the QM field by examining the role of Q4.0 leadership in motivating and sustaining the engagement of quality professionals. Exploring the relationships between Q4.0 leadership, WGI, JI and TAW helps to deepen our understanding of how Q4.0 leadership can enhance TAW among quality professionals.

Abstract
Purpose
This study examines how maturity mismatch, a specific type of financial structure of firms, affects corporate outward foreign direct investment (OFDI).
Design/methodology/approach
Using the number of newly established foreign subsidiaries in a given year as firm-level OFDI and utilizing data from Chinese listed firms between 2007 and 2022, we employ a negative binomial regression model to examine the impact of corporate maturity mismatch on the OFDI. We also make efforts to ensure the robustness of the result, such as employing an exogenous policy to establish a difference-in-difference model.
Findings
The empirical result indicates that maturity mismatch inhibits firms' OFDI. Additional test shows that maturity mismatch increases firms' financing costs and reduces firms' research and development (R&D) investment and that the negative impact of maturity mismatch on OFDI is predominantly observed in firms with high financial constraints and low R&D intensity, indicating that maturity mismatch may affect firms' OFDI through the financing cost channel and the R&D investment channel.
Originality/value
Corporate maturity mismatch is common in China and similar emerging markets. However, research on the economic consequences of maturity mismatch, especially its impact on firms' overseas expansions, is rare. This study establishes the relationship between corporate maturity mismatch and OFDI, contributes to the literature on the relationship between financial factors and OFDI, and provides policy implications for emerging market countries.

Abstract
Purpose
The conventional teaching methods in higher education institutions often seem unsuccessful in meeting diverse learning needs of learners, leading to suboptimal instructional outcomes. In Pakistani context, where teaching methods and educational infrastructure still need improvement, there is dire need to examine the impact of technology-supported personalized learning (TSPL) on dimensions of instructional quality (IQ) such as cognitive activation (CA), supportive climate (SC) and classroom management (CM) in higher education institutions.
Design/methodology/approach
This study used quantitative method specifically correlational research design in which data was collected from 290 undergraduates enrolled in one of the universities of Sindh, Pakistan. The questionnaire comprised 27 items including 12 items focusing descriptive statistics and 15 items addressing inferential statistics. The respondents marked on five-point Likert scale and data was analyzed through SPSS software version 27.0 by conducting Pearson’s correlation test to determine the relationship between TSPL and IQ.
Findings
The study concluded that there is strong positive relationship between TSPL and the three dimensions of IQ. Specifically, TSPL was found to be correlational with CA (r = 0.85), SC (r = 0.78) and CM (r = 0.80). It indicates that TSPL has major role in enhancing CA, SC and CM contributing to improvement in IQ. Moreover, the results indicate that learners who engage in TSPL experiences depict higher level of engagement, better academic performance and enhanced collaborative learning environment. It suggests that TSPL not only improves learners’ cognitive processes but also fosters a supportive and well-managed learning environment that is crucial for improvement in IQ.
Practical implications
The results of the study emphasize the significance of integrating TSPL in higher education institutions to enhance IQ. Among practical implications, investment in technological infrastructure, professional learning of teachers and active participation of stakeholders in planning and implementation of TSPL are major steps to maximize its benefits. Furthermore, this study serves as an empirical evidence for multi-dimensional benefits of TSPL in a context-specific learning environment. Mainly, it highlights the contextual adaptation of TSPL that can help policymakers and educators in improving educational outcomes.
Originality/value
This study adds empirical evidence to the existing literature related to the impact of TSPL on IQ in HEIs. It further indicates the multi-dimensional benefits of TSPL and provides practical suggestions for educators and policy makers to improve educational outcomes. It provides an original addition in the form of context-specific study that may be applicable to similar contexts.

Purpose
This paper aimed to examine the serial mediating effect of psychological contract violation (PCV) and burnout in the relationship between psychological contract breach (PCB) and work engagement. Also, the role of PCV as a mediator was tested in the relationship between PCB and work engagement.
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected from 536 employees working in various organizations of the manufacturing, consulting, banking, healthcare and mining sectors situated across India using time-lagged surveys. The analysis was carried out using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 22 and IBM SPSS Amos Version 24 software.
Findings
We found positive relationships between PCB and PCV, and PCV and burnout; negative relationships between PCB and work engagement, PCV and work engagement, and burnout and work engagement. PCV partially mediated the relationship between PCB and work engagement. PCV and burnout serially mediated the relationship between PCB and work engagement.
Originality/value
The study tested the effect of PCV generated due to PCB on burnout and work engagement. Also, the study embarks on a unique concept of testing a serial mediating effect of PCV and burnout in the relationship between PCB and work engagement. Furthermore, we tested the mediating effect of PCV in the relationship between PCB and work engagement. Managerial implications for preventing PCB, PCV and burnout are discussed in the article.

Abstract
Purpose
Drawing on the self-concept-based theory, this study aims to consider subordinate moqi as a source of forming self-concept to develop a conceptual model to examine the relationships between subordinate moqi and employee creativity, including self-efficacy as a mediator and face consciousness as a moderator.
Design/methodology/approach
An online survey was conducted and 188 subordinate-supervisor paired samples were collected in China. This paper applied the multiple linear regression method to test the proposed hypotheses.
Findings
Results show that subordinate moqi is positively related to employee creativity, and employee self-efficacy mediates the positive relationship between subordinate moqi and employee creativity. Additionally, face consciousness moderates the positive effect of self-efficacy on employee creativity and the indirect effect of subordinate moqi on employee creativity via employee self-efficacy.
Practical implications
These findings suggest that employees, managers and organizations should foster subordinate moqi, especially for the managers whose subordinates have low-level creativity. Moreover, fostering subordinate moqi can enhancing employee self-efficacy and further promote employee creativity. Additionally, our findings show the moderating role of face consciousness. That is, face consciousness can be regarded as a management tool to inspire employees’ intrinsic motivation to achieve goal tasks. Especially in the Chinese context, the face culture is quite prominent.
Originality/value
The findings provide empirical evidence on how and when subordinate moqi promote employee creativity. This study enriches our understanding of subordinate moqi.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to assess the determinants of food certificate adoption and analyse the impacts of food certificates on e-commerce income among small online agri-food sellers in Indonesia.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors used data from an online survey of 228 small-online agri-food sellers in East Java, Indonesia. This study aims to focus on two food certificates: a mandatory Halal (Islamic dietary law) certificate and the P-IRT certificate, a food safety certificate for home-based businesses. A maximum simulated likelihood (MSL) estimator was employed to account for selection bias and endogeneity.
Findings
The study highlights the continued importance of certification in agri-food markets, including e-commerce and the need to consider the degree of substitutability and resource allocation between multiple food certificates. It finds that online agri-food sellers adopting the Halal certificate earn two to three times higher compared to non-adopters. Conversely, the gross income per month from e-commerce sales is 78% lower among those adopting the P-IRT certificate. Moreover, access to regulatory information sources motivates the likelihood of adopting food certificates. In contrast, the business size, marketing channels, contractual relationship and management capabilities are insignificant factors for the adoption of any of the Halal and P-IRT certificate combinations.
Research limitations/implications
Results from this research might be specific to the context of the focus study area, thereby reducing their generalisability. In addition to gathering representative samples, future research should also capture more complex dimensions of food certificates. These include the cost of acquiring food certificates, online sellers' perceptions of food certificate adoption, and emerging topics such as group certification and the use of technology.
Originality/value
To the authors' knowledge, this research is one of the first studies investigating the adoption of food certificates within the e-commerce setting. This study also contributes to the small number of studies looking at multiple certificate adoption and food certificate issues from the retailers' perspectives

This paper proposes an artificial neural network model based on IPSO algorithm for intelligent monitoring of hydrostatic turntables.
Findings
The theoretical model proposed in this paper improves the accuracy of the working performance of the static pressure turntable and provides a new direction for intelligent monitoring of the static pressure turntable. Therefore, the theoretical research in this paper is novel.
Originality/value
Theoretical novelties: an ANN model based on the IPSO algorithm is designed to monitor the load-bearing performance of a static pressure turntable intelligently; this study show that the convergence accuracy and convergence speed of the IPSO-NN model have been improved by 52.55% and 10%, respectively, compared to traditional training models; and the proposed model could be used to solve the multidimensional nonlinear problem in the intelligent monitoring of hydrostatic turntables.
