Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this review paper is to outline the parachute materials and its behavior. To enhance parachute life, it is highly desirable to consider the commercial angle for any parachute manufacturing industry and its components under varying operational conditions. Hence, the knowledge of various textile materials and operational conditions which contributes the parachute strength and durability will be helpful for industries/researchers.

Design/methodology/approach

This section is not applicable for a review paper.

Findings

Parachute is a material used in numerous real-time applications such as man-drop, cargo delivery, aircraft recovery and aircraft decelerator which drastically reduces human efforts and time. However, each application requires a unique design and fabric selection to achieve the area of drag needed and the terminal velocity of the parachute material while in flight. For designing a man-drop parachute, the most critical parameters are weight and strength which must be considered during manufacturing. The army person uses the man-drop parachute, which must be as light as possible.

Originality/value

This paper is an original review work and will be helpful for parachute manufacturers/researchers to enhance the life of parachutes with improved functionality.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the factors influencing the reduction in strength of sewing threads after stitching (after-stitch strength reduction) in different fabric assemblies, including nonwoven fabrics. This research expands upon previous studies, which primarily focused on woven fabrics.

Design/methodology/approach

A full-factorial experimental design was employed, considering three factors: fabric assembly type (woven, nonwoven, composite), yarn type (spun polyester, core-spun polyester) and thread count (30 Tex, 60 Tex). Also, the stitching parameters stitch density (3 spc, 5 spc) and needle count (75 Nm, 100 Nm) were considered. The predictive regression model was also developed with a second-degree order. Tensile testing was conducted on unravelled threads before and after stitching to assess strength reduction.

Findings

Fabric assembly type significantly impacted after-stitch strength reduction, with the composite assembly exhibiting the highest reduction. Yarn type played a crucial role in the composite assembly; core-spun yarn experienced higher strength reduction compared to spun polyester yarn. Thread count consistently affected strength reduction across all fabric assemblies, with finer threads experiencing higher reductions. Stitch density generally had a positive correlation with strength reduction for woven and nonwoven assemblies, but no significant difference was observed in the composite assembly. Needle count did not significantly impact strength reduction for any fabric assembly.

Practical implications

The findings can guide the selection of appropriate sewing threads, yarn types and sewing parameters for different fabric assemblies, including nonwoven fabrics, to optimize seam performance and garment durability.

Originality/value

This study contributes to the understanding of how fabric structure, yarn characteristics and sewing parameters interact to influence sewing thread strength reduction in diverse fabric assemblies, including nonwoven fabrics, which were not previously considered in similar studies. This broader investigation provides valuable insights applicable to a wider range of sewing applications.

Abstract

Purpose

In the dynamic landscape of the digital economy, companies are increasingly adopting omnichannel integration strategies to enhance customer experiences. However, the interplay between this strategy and digitalisation in fostering brand trust remains uncharted. Drawing on the social exchange and psychological reactance theories, this study ventures into unexplored territory by examining the impact of omnichannel integration and digital value on brand trust building. It also delves into the boundary roles of customers’ psychological perceptions, both positive (customer empowerment) and negative (privacy concerns and perceived deception), in this process.

Design/methodology/approach

This study conducted an online survey of 595 omnichannel users in China and validated the model using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM).

Findings

This study’s results have significant implications for businesses. They show that customer perception of omnichannel integration and perceived digital value are critical drivers of omnichannel brand trust, with customer empowerment playing a mediating role. Notably, the study also reveals that customers’ negative psychological perceptions can have different moderating effects, highlighting the need for businesses to address these concerns in their omnichannel strategies.

Originality/value

This study breaks new ground in marketing research by highlighting the benefits of omnichannel integration and incorporating digital perspectives. It demonstrates the positive impact of blending customer perception of omnichannel integration and perceived digital value on brand trust formation. Furthermore, it explores the boundary roles of customers’ psychological perceptions in this process, offering a unique and comprehensive perspective.

Abstract

Purpose

The present study investigates information-sharing behaviour and awareness of students towards the infringement of copyright and associated rights while information sharing. The purpose of this study is to seek answers to the issue of whether or not students infringe on the rights of others and, if they do, whether they do so deliberately or unwittingly. Even though the Copyright Act and copyrighted works are often disregarded, students, teachers and peers are long-term trading and adapting new e-resources for their use.

Design/methodology/approach

The study collected data from students in India through a survey using Google Forms from January 2022 to May 2022. It analysed it using SPSS software to identify behaviour patterns, trends and factors influencing actions and awareness regarding potential copyright issues during data sharing.

Findings

The study finds that many students in India engage in copyright infringement, either deliberately or unwittingly. Many students are unaware of copyright laws and regulations and do not understand the consequences of their actions.

Research limitations/implications

The study’s findings are limited to students in Tamil Nadu, India, and may not represent students in other countries or regions. The findings can inform policies and educational programmes that promote ethical and legal behaviour among students and help reduce the incidence of copyright infringement.

Originality/value

This study’s originality and value stem from its unique approach of merging information sharing, seeking and copyright concepts.
