Abstract
Purpose
Social media usage has been documented to affect the psychological well-being of its users. This study aims to examine how social media overload influences cognitive fatigue among individuals in Malaysia.
Design/methodology/approach
This study employed a comprehensive research framework based on the stressor-strain-outcome (SSO) model to examine how perceived overload affects social media cognitive fatigue through emotional exhaustion and anxiety. Survey data were gathered from 451 social media users in Malaysia, and data analysis was performed using PLS-SEM.
Findings
The findings revealed that information overload, communication overload and interruption overload are antecedents of emotional exhaustion. Communication overload, interruption overload and cognitive overload were identified as antecedents of anxiety, while emotional exhaustion and anxiety were confirmed as predictors of social media cognitive fatigue. However, pathway analysis indicated no relationship between emotional exhaustion and anxiety.
Originality/value
Our study contributes to the literature on media technology and media psychology by examining the psychological mechanisms (emotional exhaustion and anxiety). The findings offer implications for service providers, practitioners and social media users, as they facilitate measures and strategies to mitigate the adverse effects of social media while elevating psychological well-being.

Purpose
Electronic wallets (e-wallet) systems have revolutionized transactional activities, prompting individuals to adopt digital payment methods. This study investigates the determinants of the continuance intention of the e-wallet system Touch 'n Go in Malaysia. We propose a framework integrating the diffusion of innovation theory (DOI) and mental accounting theory, thereby assessing the impacts of product-related factors (convenience, compatibility, perceived risk and perceived compatibility) and the moderating role of personal-related factors [personal innovativeness (PI) and personal anxiety].
Design/methodology/approach
Data were collected involving 381 Malaysian Touch 'n Go users. The partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied as a data analysis technique.
Findings
As demonstrated by the results, convenience serves as a facilitator, while perceived risk acts as an inhibitor, influencing the continuance intention of the application. Compatibility and perceived complexity are found to be insignificant antecedents. However, neither PI nor personal anxiety was found as moderators.
Originality/value
This research brings contributions to the electronic commerce literature by extending the understanding of the predictors and moderators of the continuance intention of Touch 'n Go users in Malaysia. We discuss how these findings implicate the two theories and offer insights for service providers and policymakers to promote the post-adoption intentions of Touch 'n Go.

Abstract
Purpose
In response to the complex external structure of high-precision aviation plugs, which makes it difficult to search outside the hole and adjust inside the hole during automated assembly. This paper aims to propose an assembly framework that combines multi-agent search and variable parameter compliant control to solve this problem.
Design/methodology/approach
First, a multi-agent search strategy (MAS) based on Gaussian Mixture Model and Deep Q-Network was proposed to optimize displacement direction and actions, thereby improving search speed and success rate. Then, a variable parameter admittance control method (RL-VPA) based on dual delay depth deterministic policy gradient (TD3) was proposed, which dynamically optimized the internal parameters of the admittance controller and adopted state space discretization to improve convergence speed and assembly efficiency.
Findings
Compared to spiral search and single-agent search, the average search success rate has improved by approximately 10% and 6.6%. Compared to fixed admittance control and other RL-based methods, the average assembly success rate has increased by approximately 38.6%, 22% and 8.6%. Compared with the training results of the model without state discretization, it was found that state discretization helps the model converge quickly. To verify the generalization ability of the assembly framework, experiments were conducted on three different pin counts of aviation plugs, the assembly success rate reached 86.7%, all of which showed good assembly results. Finally, combining state space discretization to reduce the impact of environmental noise, improve training effectiveness and convergence speed.
Originality/value
MAS has been proposed to optimize displacement direction and action, improving search speed and success rate. RL-VPA is designed to dynamically optimize the internal parameters of the admittance controller, enhancing the robustness and generalization ability of the model. Additionally, state space discretization is combined to improve training effectiveness and convergence speed.

Abstract
Purpose
The formation of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarm plays a critical role in numerous applications, such as unmanned agriculture, environmental monitoring and cooperative fencing. Meanwhile, the self-organized swarm model exhibits excellent performance in amorphous formation flight, and its collective motion pattern displays great potential in dense obstacle avoidance. The paper aims to realize the formation maintenance of UAVs while combining the advantage of the self-organized swarm model in avoiding dense obstacles. Thereby enhancing the flexibility, adaptability and safety of UAV swarms in dense and unpredictable scenarios.
Design/methodology/approach
In this paper, a self-organized formation (SOF) swarm model with a constrained coordination mechanism is proposed. A global information-based formation rule is designed to flexibly maintain the formation. A constraint coordination mechanism is designed to resolve the problem of constraint conflicts between formation rules and self-organized behavior rules. The model introduces a new obstacle avoidance rule to prevent deadlocks. Extensive experiments including simulations, real flights and comparative experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the model.
Findings
The simulation results show that SOF swarm enables the formation elastically to dense obstacles. Compared to the Vasarhelyi model, swarm performance metrics are improved. For example, the task completion time of SOF swarm is reduced by 16%, 28% and 39% across the three obstacle densities, and the order of SOF swarm is improved by 4%, 13% and 18%, respectively. The proposed model is also validated with a swarm of seven quadcopters that can successfully navigate and maintain formation in a real-world indoor environment with dense obstacles. Research limitations/implications
The proposed formation rule is based on global information construction, which presents challenges in terms of communication overhead in distributed systems.
Originality/value
An SOF swarm model is proposed, which achieves formation maintenance by incorporating formation rule and constraint coordination mechanism and improves obstacle avoidance performance by introducing a new obstacle avoidance rule. After real UAVs verification, the model is feasible for practical deployment and provides a new solution to the formation flight and formation maintenance problems encountered in dense environments.

Purpose
Employee voice is crucial for organizations to identify problems and make timely adjustments. However, promoting voice in organizations is challenging. This study aims to investigate how social media use (SMU) in the workplace affects employee voice by examining its intrinsic mechanisms and boundary conditions. Specifically, this study examines the mediating roles of social identifications and the moderating effects of job-social media fit on the relationship between SMU and social identifications.
Design/methodology/approach
This study conducted a survey of 348 employees in China.
Findings
First, SMU affects voice through social identifications. Second, distinct identifications have different effects on voice, such that organizational identification positively affects employee voice, while relational identification positively affects promotive voice and negatively affects prohibitive voice. Third, when social media is highly suitable for the job, the positive effect of work-related SMU on organizational identification is strengthened, while the positive effect of social-related SMU on organizational identification is weakened.
Originality/value
The results indicate that different identifications have distinct impacts on voice. Additionally, this study reveals a double-edged sword effect of SMU on voice through different social identifications. Further, job-social media fit moderates the relationship between SMU and social identifications. These findings have important implications for organizations adopting social media.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate whether managerial short-termism affects the expected default probability for a sample of Chinese-listed firms.
Design/methodology/approach
To capture default, we utilize the expected default probability measure developed by Bharath and Shumway (2008). Textual analysis and machine learning techniques are used to construct the index of managerial myopia. We conduct ordinary least squares regression and employ a large sample of 33,164 firm-year observations from Chinese A-share listed firms spanning the years 2001–2021 to test our theoretical hypotheses. We further conduct mediation tests, moderating analysis, textual features analysis and analysis of actual default firms. In addition, we employ change regression, entropy-balanced/propensity score/closest assets matching analysis, two-stage least squares regression, two-stage residual intervention method and alternative estimation methods to address endogeneity concerns.
Findings
First, there is a positive and statistically significant relationship between managerial myopia and expected default probability. Second, the mediation tests indicate that managerial myopia increases the expected default probability through operational risk and opportunistic agency channels. Third, the cross-sectional tests reveal that the positive association is less pronounced for firms with effective internal control systems, higher audit quality and more financial analyst coverage.
Practical implications
Our study reveals the need for comprehensive early warning mechanisms in the corporate bond market in China, in particular, through enhanced transparency of managerial incentive schemes and more rigorous disclosure requirements regarding short-term managerial decision-making. Furthermore, the findings of our study suggest the necessity of taking an integrated approach in developing regulatory frameworks that enable market intermediaries – including rating agencies, financial analysts and external auditors – to execute their monitoring functions with greater effectiveness.
Originality/value
Prior research has examined the impact of managers’ demographic characteristics on a range of corporate organizational outcomes; however, there have been few studies investigating the influence of managerial myopia on corporate financial risks. This study advances the literature on the determinants of default probability. It contributes to the limited and emerging studies on the role of managerial myopia by being the first to examine the effect of managerial myopia on expected default probability.

Purpose
Seekers who visit professional virtual communities (PVCs) are usually motivated by knowledge-seeking, which is a complex cognitive process. How do seekers search for knowledge, and how is their search linked to prior knowledge or PVC situation factors? From the cognitive process and interactional psychology perspectives, this study investigated the three-way interactions between seekers’ expertise, task complexity, and perceptions of PVC features (i.e. knowledge quality and system quality) on knowledge-seeking strategies and resultant outcomes.
Design/methodology/approach
A field experiment was conducted with 119 seekers in a PVC using a 2 × 2 factorial design of seekers’ expertise (i.e. expert versus novice) and task complexity (i.e. low versus high).
Findings
The study reveals three significant insights: (1) For a high-complexity task, experts adopt an ask-directed searching strategy compared to novices, whereas novices adopt a browsing strategy; (2) For a high-complexity task, experts who perceive a high system quality are more likely than novices to adopt an ask-directed searching strategy; and (3) Task completion time and task quality are associated with the adoption of ask-directed searching strategies, whereas knowledge seekers’ satisfaction is more associated with the adoption of browsing strategy.
Originality/value
We draw on the perspectives of cognitive process and interactional psychology to explore potential two- and three-way interactions of seekers’ expertise, task complexity, and PVC features on the adoption of knowledge-seeking strategies in a PVC context. Our findings provide deep insights into seekers’ behavior in a PVC, given the popularity of the search for knowledge in PVCs.

Abstract
Purpose
National identity has a profound impact on building a modern state, maintaining social stability and promoting economic development. Based on three waves of data collected from the World Values Survey (WVS) in Hong Kong between 2005 and 2018, this study aims to examine the changes in the national identity awareness of Hong Kongese over time.
Design/methodology/approach
The data used in this paper originate from the WVS. The WVS is a cross-country time-series survey that has been carried out in seven waves in 85 countries around the world, since 1981. There are three waves of data involving Hong Kong, which were obtained from the surveys in 2005, 2014 and 2018.
Findings
This study examined the changes in the national identity awareness of Hong Kongese over time and found that this has shown both continuity and rupture. Extreme groups lacking national identity have emerged and become more common over the decades and the elites’ national identity is much stronger than that of the lower and middle classes. It also shows that political trust, social capital, subjective well-being and possession of authoritarian personality have strong explanatory power for the changes in Hong Kongese national identity over time, but their explanatory strength varies across eras.
Originality/value
Based on three waves of surveys conducted by the WVS in Hong Kong in 2005, 2014 and 2018, respectively, this paper charts these changes over time and explores the differences in how they are influenced by political trust, social capital, subjective well-being and authoritarian personality.

Purpose
Merchant guild culture derives from business practices associated with medieval and early modern merchant guilds. This study aims to investigate the nexus between merchant guild culture and firm internationalization as well as the factors that moderate this nexus.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the distribution of the ten merchant guilds in China and data on Chinese listed companies, this study uses the geographical proximity-based method to measure the intensity of merchant guild culture, which is the nearest distance between the ten merchant guilds’ origins and each firm’s registered address.
Findings
This study provides robust evidence that merchant guild culture positively relates to the degree of firm internationalization. It also documents that this nexus is stronger for firms with overseas background executives and those situated in highly marketized regions.
Practical implications
The findings of this study have valuable implications for both governments and firms. Governments can leverage local cultures to promote the internationalization of domestic firms, particularly in emerging economies with rich cultural heritage. Firms can further enhance their internationalization efforts by hiring more executives with overseas backgrounds.
Originality/value
This study advances the imprinting literature, provides a novel perspective on the antecedents of firm internationalization and expands research on the contemporary value of historical business culture.

Purpose
The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of credibility and information quality (IQ) of online food vloggers on consumer attitude and purchase intention towards street food consumption. It also examines the relationship between consumer attitude and purchase intention influenced by online food vlogger reviews in North India.
Design/methodology/approach
In order to evaluate the framework, primary data were gathered from 389 street food consumers located in Jammu, Chandigarh and Delhi – cities situated in northern India. The collected data were then subjected to analysis using the partial least squares-structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) techniques.
Findings
The results indicate that the perceived value of street food, influenced by the credibility of food vloggers and the quality of information provided, has a positive impact on consumer attitude and purchase intention towards street food consumption. A positive impact of consumer attitude on the purchase and consumption of street food was also observed.
Originality/value
This research offers a thorough investigation into the elements that influence consumers' opinions regarding vloggers endorsements. The findings reveal that consumer's attitudes towards vloggers recommendations are mainly influenced by the quality of information provided, followed by credibility and the intention to make a purchase. Furthermore, this research is of significance to practitioners and academics interested in comprehending consumer behavior in the realms of tourism and food-related endeavors.
