Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current status and future research agenda of citizen journalism through a computational analysis lens. It explores how technological advancements and evolving media consumption patterns have shaped the rise of citizen journalism, democratizing news production via social media and digital technologies and impacting traditional journalism and societal discourse.

Design/methodology/approach

A bibliometric analysis was conducted on 1,325 peer-reviewed articles related to citizen journalism sourced from the Dimensions.ai database. The study used the Biblioshiny app of the bibliometrix software and VOSviewer for network visualization. The analysis examined publication trends, citation patterns, major contributors, influential journals and main research directions to map the intellectual landscape of citizen journalism research.

Findings

The analysis revealed significant growth in citizen journalism publications starting from 2004, with peak years in 2021–2023. Key researchers and journals were identified, highlighting both sustained and emerging contributions. Co-occurrence of keywords indicated a focus on qualitative methods and the credibility of citizen journalism. International collaboration varied, with robust intra-country publications in the USA and high intercountry collaboration rates in Austria and Australia. European and North American universities, particularly the University of Seville and the University of Vienna, were noted for their significant contributions.

Originality/value

To the best of the author’s knowledge, this study is one of the first to apply comprehensive bibliometric techniques to the field of citizen journalism, offering a quantitative assessment of global research trends.

Abstract

Purpose

This paper aims to explore the global trends and status of drone journalism through a systematic bibliometric analysis, aiming to provide a comprehensive understanding of the field's evolution, impact and interdisciplinary nature.

Design/methodology/approach

This study uses established bibliometric tools and frameworks to systematically review scholarly publications related to drone journalism. Using the Dimensions.ai database, a systematic mapping of the intellectual landscape of drone journalism research is conducted. Bibliometrix package of R Studio was used in the study.

Findings

The analysis reveals a progressive growth in drone journalism research over the years. Although research output consistently increases, variations in impact, measured by citations and online engagement, are observed. Missing data and contextual factors necessitate careful interpretation, but trends suggest an evolving field with diverse interests and future exploration opportunities. Drone journalism research exhibits interdisciplinary characteristics, with impact varying across different research categories. The distribution of research across various publication types underscores the diversity of scholarly communication channels in the field.

Research limitations/implications

This study acknowledges limitations in its data set, stemming from specific keyword criteria, potentially limiting the comprehensive capture of all drone journalism research.

Practical implications

This study offers valuable insights for researchers, practitioners and policymakers seeking to navigate the dynamic landscape of drone journalism. The understanding of publication patterns, influential authors and interdisciplinary intersections facilitates informed decisions regarding research dissemination and impact maximization.

Originality/value

This research contributes to the evolving field of drone journalism by providing a holistic view of its trends and status. The identification of prolific authors, influential publications and evolving research themes offers valuable context for understanding the multifaceted nature of drone journalism research.

Abstract

Purpose

Industries have been the most significant contributor to carbon emissions since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. The transition to Industry 5.0 (I5.0) marks a pivotal moment in the industrial revolution, which aims to reconcile productivity with environmental responsibility. As concerns about the decline of environmental quality increase and the demand for sustainable industrial methods intensifies, experts recognize the shift toward the I5.0 transition as a crucial turning point.

Design/methodology/approach

This review study explores the convergence of green technological advancements with the evolving landscape of I5.0, thereby presenting a roadmap toward carbon neutrality. Through an extensive analysis of literature spanning from 2012 to 2024, sourced from the Scopus database, the research study unravels the transformative potential of green technological innovations, artificial intelligence, green supply chain management and the metaverse.

Findings

The findings underscore the urgent imperative of integrating green technologies into the fabric of I5.0, highlighting the opportunities and challenges inherent in this endeavor. Furthermore, the study provides insights tailored for policymakers, regulators, researchers and environmental stakeholders, fostering informed decision-making toward a carbon-neutral future.

Originality/value

This review serves as a call to action, urging collective efforts to harness innovation for the betterment of industry and the environment.
