Abstract
Purpose
The success of public–private partnership (PPP) projects is highly correlated to the successful management of risks encountered during the operation phase. PPP projects are especially exposed to risk due to the long operation period over which revenues need to be generated to recoup substantial initial investment and operational running costs. Despite the critical impact of risk exposure, limited research has been specifically undertaken on the matter of operational risk management. This study seeks to address this oversight by identifying and evaluating operational risk management strategies for PPPs.
Design/methodology/approach
Vulnerability theory is the theoretical lens used, with context drawn from Chinese PPP projects. Based on the data collected from expert interviews and questionnaires, 28 operational risk management strategies are identified. A fuzzy synthetic method is employed to analyze the effectiveness of the 28 strategies.
Findings
The findings reveal that providing an exit mechanism clause into the contract, establishing a comprehensive performance evaluation mechanism and developing a clear compensation mechanism are the top three effective strategies. This study also reveals that risk mitigation approaches that reduce vulnerability prove more effective than attempts to reduce external threats. Specifically, strategies aimed at managing contract, political, technical and financial risk are the most effective.
Originality/value
The findings of this study extend current knowledge regarding the risk management of PPP projects. They also offer a reference by which practitioners may select effective operational risk management pathways and thereby, galvanize the sustainable development of PPPs.

Abstract
Purpose
Firms in emerging economies are generally at a disadvantage in terms of resources, which may limit their digital transformation. The Chinese government has designed and promulgated a series of wind power policies from the perspectives of support and regulation. The former provides scarce resources for enterprises and thus alleviating financial constraints. While the latter increases the demands for advanced technologies, thereby triggering resource bricolages. This study aims to clarify the impact of industrial policy on the digital transformation of the Chinese wind power industry, and the role of financing constraint and resource bricolage in the above relationship.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the data of listed companies in the Chinese wind power industry from 2006 to 2021, this study clarifies the impact and mechanism of industrial policy on firm digital transformation with fixed effect regression models.
Findings
Empirical results indicate that both supportive and regulatory policies are the cornerstone of the digital transformation of the Chinese wind power industry. Financial constraint and resource bricolage, respectively, mediate the impact of supportive and regulatory policies. However, the mix of supportive and regulatory policies inhibits digital transformation. Moreover, industrial policies are more effective for the digital transformation of state-owned enterprises, as well as enterprises in economically underdeveloped regions.
Research limitations/implications
This study investigates the path of government intervention driving firm digital transformation from the resource-related perspective (i.e. financial constraint and resource bricolage), and its analytical framework can be extended based on other theories. The combined effects of cross-sectoral policies (e.g. wind power policy and digital infrastructure policy) can be further assessed. The marginal net benefit of government intervention can be calculated to determine whether it is worthwhile.
Practical implications
This study emphasizes the necessity of government intervention in the digital transformation of enterprises in emerging economies. The governments should align the policy targets, clarify policy recipients and modify policy process of different categories of industrial policies to optimize the effectiveness of policy mix. Given that the effectiveness of government intervention varies among different categories of enterprises, the competent agencies should design and promulgate differentiated industrial policies based on the heterogeneity of firms to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of industrial policies.
Originality/value
This is one of the earliest explorations of industrial policies’ effect on the digital transformation of the renewable energy sector in emerging economies, providing new evidence for institutional theory. Meanwhile, this study introduces financial constraint and resource bricolage into the research framework and attempts to uncover the mechanism of industrial policy driving the digital transformation of enterprises in emerging economies. Besides, to expand the understanding of the complex industrial policy system, this study assesses the effectiveness of the industrial policy mix.

Abstract
Purpose
This study leverages theories of social influence to explore how “likes” for consumption-related content on social media fulfill consumers’ needs for social acceptance, subsequently affecting their repurchase and word-of-mouth (WOM) intentions. It aims to understand the extent to which social media engagements, specifically likes, serve as markers of social validation in the context of consumer behavior.
Design/methodology/approach
Our mixed-methods approach incorporated two experiments and an analysis of an archival dataset from a popular Chinese social media platform. This comprehensive methodology allowed for empirical validation of our hypotheses, combining experimental control with real-world relevance to scrutinize the impact of likes on consumption behavior.
Findings
The results of Studies 1 and 2 revealed that the number of likes significantly enhanced behavioral intentions regarding repurchase and positive word-of-mouth by fulfilling consumers’ need for social acceptance. Moreover, this effect was observed only under conditions of high (vs low) ideal social self-congruity. Study 3, conducted in a natural social media context, further validated these findings, demonstrating that likes positively influenced behavioral intention, with ideal social self-congruity acting as a boundary condition.
Originality/value
This study provides a novel perspective by directly linking social media likes to consumer behavioral intentions, specifically repurchase and WOM, through the mediating role of social acceptance and the moderating effect of ideal social self-congruity. By focusing on user-generated content (UGC) rather than marketer-generated content (MGC), it addresses a critical gap in the literature, emphasizing how receiving likes on consumer-shared content impacts content creators’ post-purchase behaviors, with practical implications for marketers on leveraging aspirational self-congruity to optimize promotional strategies.

Abstract
Purpose
The current study aims to ascertain how green entrepreneurial orientation (GEO) affects green innovation performance (GIP) through the mediating mechanism of the knowledge creation process (KCP) and whether or not these associations can be strengthened or hampered by the moderating impacts of resources orchestration capabilities (ROC).
Design/methodology/approach
The research used data from managers at various levels in 154 manufacturing enterprises in Pakistan to evaluate the relationships among the constructs using hierarchical regression analysis and moderated mediation approach.
Findings
The study indicates that GEO substantially impacts firms' GIP. GEO and GIP's relationship is partially mediated by two KCP dimensions: knowledge integration (KI) and knowledge exchange (KE). Furthermore, ROC amplifies not only the effects of GEO on KE but also the effects of KE on GIP. The moderated mediation results demonstrate that KE has a greater mediating influence on GEO and GIP when ROC is higher.
Research limitations/implications
To better understand GEO's advantages and significance, future studies should look into the possible moderating mechanisms of environmental, organizational culture/green capability in the association between GEO, KCP and GIP.
Practical implications
The research helps expand the field of green entrepreneurship and GIP literature by providing a deeper knowledge of GEO and offering insight into how to boost GI in manufacturing firms.
Originality/value
This research helps fill in knowledge gaps in the field by delving further into the mechanisms by which GEO promotes GIP, both directly and indirectly, via the mediating role of KCP and the moderating impacts of ROC.

Purpose
This study aims to develop a low-cost additive-subtractive hybrid machine equipped with reverse scanning to fabricate high-precision dental surgical guides. The major focus of developing the hybrid additive manufacturing technology is to achieve clinical precision of dental tools at an affordable price.
Design/methodology/approach
The designed machine consists of a self-developed vat-photopolymerization-based 3D printer that can fabricate dental surgical guides. The 3D printer is integrated with a self-developed 3D scanner that will analyze the fabricated part and evaluate the dimensional discrepancies. Based on the data provided by the scanner, the integrated secondary milling process will successfully machine the part to meet the clinical precision and standard.
Findings
The efficacy of the newly developed hybrid machine is demonstrated with the fabrication of complex part, lower and upper dental surgical guides with the mean dimensional deviations of 198.1, 136.6 and 117.9 µm, respectively. The integration of the secondary scanning and machining system successfully enhanced the mean dimensional deviation of upper and lower guides by 11.88% and 28.75%, respectively. Furthermore, this study also benchmarked the dimensional accuracies achieved by this low-cost technology with the high-end commercial 3D printers. The overall cost of the machine is evaluated to be $2,399.
Originality/value
This paper proposes a novel hybrid additive manufacturing process with integrated reverse scanning and machining modules to fabricate high-precision dental guides. The developed machine is a low-cost alternative to the existing high-end commercial counterparts. The developed machine has the potential to make endodontic treatments more affordable.

Purpose
The global prevalence of vaccine misinformation has underscored the crucial necessity to combat false information and explore innovative solutions like chatbots. These artificial intelligence (AI)-powered tools play a pivotal role in disseminating accurate information and mitigating the adverse effects of misinformation. This study aimed to investigate what factors motivated users to combat vaccine misinformation using chatbot tools, and their active communication actions and anti-misinformation behaviors.
Design/methodology/approach
Researchers surveyed 612 chatbot users in the United States and utilized structural equation modeling for data analysis.
Findings
The findings of this study revealed that both situational and gratification motivations of chatbot users significantly contributed to three essential types of communicative actions: information-seeking, forwarding and forfending. Meanwhile, the data demonstrated that except for information forfending, both information-seeking and forwarding communicative actions could enhance user engagement with anti-misinformation behavior.
Originality/value
The originality of this study lies in its integration of two key motivational frameworks – gratification and situational motivations – within the context of AI-driven tools like chatbots, particularly in combating misinformation. While previous research has explored the use of chatbots or the role of situational motivations in communication separately, this study uniquely combines these concepts to enhance the situational theory of problem-solving (STOPS) model and uses and gratifications (U&G) theory. Additionally, the practical implications for chatbot design and communication strategies targeted at misinformation are a significant contribution, demonstrating how motivation-driven interactions can be used to improve user engagement and public health outcomes.

Purpose
This study explores the antecedent configurations shaping ambidextrous environmental strategy (AES) and the subsequent performance outcomes. The lack of literature from the configurational perspective and inconsistent performance results suggest that this study has significant implications for practitioners, policymakers and the public. Therefore, this study aims to investigate how different antecedent conditions interact to shape AES and subsequent performance outcomes.
Design/methodology/approach
To achieve the research aims, the current research utilize research techniques based on technology–organization–environment framework and configurational perspective. This study collects data from 317 Chinese manufacturing enterprises and tests the theoretical framework using fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis and propensity score matching.
Findings
Perceived institutional pressure, green supply chain integration and digital technology adoption form four paths that lead to the existence of AES. There are four sets of replaceable conditions between distinct paths. In addition, except for configuration P3, all other configurations promote environmental, operational and financial performance.
Research limitations/implications
Our results provide new insights for enterprises to shape AES and achieve multiple performances, and new ideas for promoting environmental policies and public environmental awareness.
Originality/value
This study adds literature on AES and confirms multiple drivers, revealing their interaction mechanisms and key antecedent conditions. In addition, this study promotes the performance practice of AES by examining different AES configurations that achieve triple performance and insignificant operational performance.

Health short videos are serving as a powerful tool for encouraging individuals to actively adopt healthier behaviors. The sensory cues applied in these videos can be useful for engaging peripheral processing and enhancing attitudes. While previous research has examined the effects of various single cues, this study features a pioneering attempt to explore the roles of audiovisual cross-modal correspondence, encompassing multisensory cues perceived through different modalities, in health communication.
Design/methodology/approach
A 2 (color: warm/cool) × 2 (music tempo: fast/slow) between-subjects experiment was conducted to observe 120 participants’ responses to a health short video promoting eye health that was created using four different combinations of background color and background music tempo.
Findings
It was found that the congruent color–tempo pairings, that is blue & slow and orange & fast, led to more positive attitudes toward the videos than the incongruent pairings, that is blue & fast and orange & slow. The effect of cross-modal correspondence on attitude was fully mediated by processing fluency, with gender acting as a moderator between the two variables. Furthermore, individuals’ attitudes toward a short video positively influenced their health behavioral intentions.
Originality/value
These findings not only lend support to the theoretical framework of “multisensory cues-fluency-attitude-intention” chain for persuasion purposes but also have practical implications for creating effective health short videos.

Abstract
Purpose
This study aims to investigate the relationship between managerial corporate social responsibility (CSR) mindset and business performance in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), focusing on the mediating role of CSR practices and the moderating influence of institutional forces.
Design/methodology/approach
A structured questionnaire was administered to 221 SME managers. The data was analysed using the Hayes process in SPSS to test the hypothesized relationships.
Findings
This study found that a managerial CSR mindset significantly improves operational and financial business performance. In addition, CSR practices mediate the relationship between managerial CSR mindset and business performance. Furthermore, institutional forces moderate this relationship, highlighting the critical role of external factors in shaping SME performance.
Practical implications
The findings suggest that SME managers should adopt a proactive managerial CSR mindset and integrate CSR into their core strategies to enhance business performance. Moreover, managers must be responsive to institutional forces as they adjust their strategy to meet external pressures to ensure sustainable performance.
Originality/value
This study demonstrates the theoretical explanation of how CSR practices serve as a conduit through which a managerial CSR mindset improves business performance under varying conditions of institutional forces.

Abstract
Purpose
In the construction of charging piles, traditional gas stations possess significant advantages in terms of regional and financial resources. The transformation of gas stations into “refueling+charging” integrated gas stations relies on charging pile manufacturers and government, involving coordination issues with them. This paper aims to propose a joint coordination contract based on the principles of cost-sharing and revenue-sharing. The objective is to achieve systemic coordination among integrated gas stations, charging pile manufacturers, and the government, optimizing the planning of the quantity of charging piles and charging prices.
Design/methodology/approach
We have constructed an operational system model based on the Stackelberg game between charging pile manufacturers, integrated gas stations, and government. We have analyzed the optimal quantity of charging piles and charging prices under the impact of government subsidy policies in both decentralized and centralized operation scenarios. Additionally, we have proposed a joint coordination contract based on cost-sharing and revenue-sharing to coordinate this tripartite operational system.
Findings
The study reveals that, under simple cooperative contracts, the optimal decision does not yield maximum profits for the operational system due to the “double-marginal effect”. However, under the impact of the joint coordination contract, which combines cost-sharing and revenue-sharing as proposed in this paper, gas stations will consider the charging pile manufacturer’s costs and government subsidies when determining the optimal quantity and price. This not only achieves system coordination but also results in Pareto improvement in the benefits of all system members by adjusting contract parameters.
Originality/value
The value of this research lies in its insights into operational strategies for the construction of charging piles for electric vehicles. By analyzing optimal decisions under different contract arrangements, the study provides guidance to relevant stakeholders, enabling the operational system to achieve greater efficiency and coordination and realize more extensive Pareto improvements. Furthermore, it extends the application of coordination contract theory in the context of charging pile construction and operations.
