Abstract

Purpose

The objective of this study is to examine the long-run relationship between workers' remittances and economic growth in Sri Lanka using time series data spanning 1975–2021.

Design/methodology/approach

This study employed both exploratory data analysis (EDA) and inferential data analysis (IDA) tools. EDA includes the scatter plots, confidence ellipse with Kernel fit, whereas IDA covers unit root test, the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) bounds technique, the Granger's causality test, and impulse response function (IRF) analysis.

Findings

EDA confirms that workers' remittances have a positive relationship with per-capita gross domestic product (GDP). All variables used in this study are I(1). This study is exhibited that workers' remittances have a positive long-run relationship with per-capita GDP. The estimated coefficient of the error correction term shows that the dependent variable moves towards the long-run equilibrium path. Workers' remittances have a short-run and long-run causal relationship with per-capita GDP. The IRF analysis indicates that a one standard deviation shock to workers' remittances has initially an immediate significant positive impact on economic growth.

Practical implications

This study provides insights into workers' remittances in economic growth in Sri Lanka. Further, the findings of this study also provide evidence that workers' remittances increase economic growth.

Originality/value

Using ARDL bounds test, Granger's Causality test and IRF analysis for examining the relationship between workers' remittances and economic growth are the originality of this study.

Abstract

Purpose

The primary objective of this study is to examine the effects of integrating human-centric technology on the overall effectiveness of sustainable building practises. This study intends to address the knowledge gap regarding the influence of human-centered factors on the adoption of technology in the construction industry. Additionally, it wants to establish a strong correlation between the integration of technology and the promotion of sustainability.

Design/methodology/approach

This research utilizes Partial Least Square Equation Modeling (SEM) as a comprehensive approach to analyze the intricate interrelationships within the building sector. This study examines a range of aspects, including “Change Management,” “Evaluation and Optimization,” “Integration and Coordination,” “Long-Term Planning,” “Safety and Compliance,” and “Training and User Engagement,” in order to evaluate their impact on the adoption of technology and the achievement of sustainable building outcomes.

Findings

The study reveals a robust and affirmative correlation between the use of human-centric technology and the attainment of success in the realm of sustainable building. The text elucidates the primary factors that influence the adoption of technology and underscores the need of adopting a comprehensive strategy that encompasses change management, adherence to safety standards, and optimization of resources.

Originality/value

This study contributes novelty by placing emphasis on the human-centric dimensions of technology adoption within the context of sustainable building. The results of this research provide a valuable contribution to the ongoing development of sustainable building practises and the adoption of new technologies in this sector.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of the paper is to conduct a review of the literature on human-robot collaboration across different functions and activities of human resource management (HRM) and discuss its importance for change readiness in organizations.

Design/methodology/approach

A bibliometric analysis was conducted to identify emerging research themes in the fields of human resources (HR) and robotics, including change readiness. Based on the initial results of the bibliometric analysis, a systematic literature review was subsequently performed to gain a more specific understanding of research across various HRM functions and change readiness.

Findings

The results from bibliometric analysis and systematic review highlight that technological progression in HRM, such as AI-driven staffing and training techniques, improves effectiveness and personalization but raises concerns about privacy and job scrutiny. AI and robotics in performance evaluation enhance objectivity and reduce subjectivity, which can lead to disengagement. Generational differences, cultural factors and emotional quotient complicate readiness to adopt new technologies. The research emphasizes balancing technological effectiveness with employee involvement and meaningfulness to ensure successful implementation and engagement.

Originality/value

This paper synthesizes existing research, including literature, theoretical concepts and models, to identify best practices and successful strategies for implementing human-robot collaboration in HRM functions. It highlights gaps in the current literature and suggests areas for future research to advance the field of human-robot collaboration in HRM. By doing so, this paper enhances theoretical understanding while offering practical insights essential for effective change management.

Abstract

Purpose

Nowadays, the electricity supply chain is significant for most societies, so it is necessary to use new technologies such as blockchain in the electricity industry. This study aims to identify and prioritize the factors influencing the adoption of blockchain technology in the electricity supply chain of the US.

Design/methodology/approach

In this study, after reviewing the research literature, the influential factors of blockchain adoption in the electricity industry are identified and the consensus of the experts is reached. Experts have a thorough understanding of blockchain technology and the US electricity industry. Data is collected using a Step-Wise Weight Assessment Ratio Analysis (SWARA) questionnaire from November 2022 to July 2023. Using the SWARA questionnaire, experts compared 16 influential subcriteria of blockchain adoption. Then, using the Fuzzy SWARA method, the following influential subcriteria of blockchain adaptation in the US electricity industry are evaluated and prioritized.

Findings

The results show that the most significant subcriterion among the 16 influential subcriteria for the adoption of blockchain technology in the electricity supply chain is reducing cost, whereas the collaborating with supply chain partners subcriterion is recognized as the least important subcriterion.

Originality/value

The present study helps managers improve their knowledge to apply blockchain technology and also have the best performance for applying blockchain technology in the electricity supply chain.

Abstract

Purpose

Blockchain technology (BCT) can play a vital role in manufacturing industries by providing visibility and real-time transparency. With BCT adoption, manufacturers can achieve higher productivity, better quality, flexibility and cost-effectiveness. The current study aims to prioritize the performance metrics and ranking of enablers that may influence the adoption of BCT in manufacturing industries through a hybrid framework.

Design/methodology/approach

Through an extensive literature review, 4 major criteria with 26 enablers were identified. Pythagorean fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method was used to compute the weights of the enablers and the Pythagorean fuzzy combined compromise solution (Co-Co-So) method was used to prioritize the 17-performance metrics. Sensitivity analysis was then carried out to check the robustness of the developed framework.

Findings

According to the results, data security enablers were the most significant among the major criteria, followed by technology-oriented enablers, sustainability and human resources and quality-related enablers. Further, the ranking of performance metrics shows that data hacking complaints per year, data storage capacity and number of advanced technologies available for BCT are the top three important performance metrics. Framework robustness was confirmed by sensitivity analysis.

Practical implications

The developed framework will contribute to understanding and simplifying the BCT implementation process in manufacturing industries to a significant level. Practitioners and managers may use the developed framework to facilitate BCT adoption and evaluate the performance of the manufacturing system.

Originality/value

This study can be considered as the first attempt to the best of the author’s knowledge as no such hybrid framework combining enablers and performance indicators was developed earlier.

Abstract

Purpose

The construction industry is frequently scrutinised by the public for a variety of issues, including waste, inefficiency, narrow profit margins, scheduling setbacks, budget overruns, quality concerns, trust deficits, transparency issues, coordination challenges, communication issues and fraud. The purpose of this paper is to assess the effect of blockchain technology adoption on the construction supply chain.

Design/methodology/approach

This study used a quantitative research approach through a questionnaire survey that was conducted among professionals in the Nigerian construction industry using the snowball sampling method, which resulted in a selection of 155 respondents. The collected data were analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling, enabling a thorough assessment of the proposed relationships and offering valuable insights specific to the construction industry.

Findings

The study’s findings validated the conceptual framework established. The results indicated that implementing blockchain across all stages of the construction supply chain has the potential to improve the construction process. The study also revealed that blockchain technology will significantly affect the construction supply chain in a positive manner.

Research limitations/implications

This research was carried out in the South-western region which is one of the six geo-political zones in Nigeria using a cross-sectional survey method. The study holds implications not only for local construction practices but will also contribute to the broader discourse on national construction sector challenges and possible solutions.

Practical implications

The findings of this study will be immensely beneficial to both professionals, practitioners and stakeholders in the Nigerian construction industry in learning about the potential of blockchain technology application in improving the construction supply chain.

Originality/value

The study in this paper constructed and evaluated a conceptual framework by exploring the connections between the variables. The results have significant implications for the construction sector, as they provide avenues for enhancing the construction process and the overall supply chain. These findings are valuable for researchers examining the potential effects of blockchain technology on the construction supply chain.

Purpose

This study aims to investigate the differences in consumer reviews across multiple e-commerce platforms to better assist consumers in making informed decisions. By examining the specific content of these differentiated reviews, the study seeks to provide insights that can enhance e-commerce services and improve consumer satisfaction.

Design/methodology/approach

The research utilizes the latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) method for text analysis to identify the varying concerns of consumers across different e-commerce platforms for the same product. Additionally, the study expands the sentiment dictionary to address polysemy issues, allowing for a more precise capture of sentiment differences among consumers. A non-parametric test is employed to compare reviews across multiple platforms, providing a comprehensive analysis of review disparities.

Findings

The findings reveal that consumer concerns and sentiments vary significantly across different e-commerce platforms, even for the same product. The combination of text analysis and non-parametric testing highlights the objectivity of the research, offering valuable evidence and recommendations for improving e-commerce services and enhancing the shopping experience.

Originality/value

This study is original in its approach to combining text analysis with non-parametric testing to examine multi-platform review differences. The research not only contributes to the understanding of consumer behavior in the context of e-commerce but also provides practical suggestions for platforms and consumers, aiming to optimize service quality and consumer satisfaction.

Abstract

Purpose

In this research, we seek to understand the effects of artificial intelligence (AI) and knowledge management (KM) processes in enhancing proactive green innovation (PGI) within oil and gas organizations. It also aims to investigate the moderator role of trust and sustainability in these relationships.

Design/methodology/approach

This paper employs a quantitative analysis. Surveys have been gathered from the middle-line managers of twenty-four oil and gas government organizations to evaluate the perceptions of the managers towards AI, KM processes, trust, sustainability measures and proactive measures toward green innovation. Analytical and statistical tools that were employed in this study, including structural equation modeling with SmartPLSv3.9, have been used to analyze the data and to examine the measurement and structural models of this study.

Findings

The study results reveal a significant and positive impact of AI utilization, KM processes and PGI within oil and gas organizations. Furthermore, trust and sustainability turn out to be viable moderators affecting, and influencing the strength and direction of AI, KM and PGI relationships. In particular, higher levels of trust and more substantial sustainability commitments enhance the positive impact of AI and KM on green innovation outcomes.

Practical implications

Understanding the impact of AI, KM, trust and sustainability offers valuable insights for organizational leaders and policymakers seeking to promote proactive green innovation within the oil and gas industry. Thus, organizations can increase the efficiency of sustainable product development, process improvement and environmental management by using robust AI technologies and effective KM systems. Furthermore, fostering trust among stakeholders and embedding sustainability principles into organizational culture can amplify the effectiveness of AI and KM initiatives in driving green innovation outcomes.

Originality/value

This study extends the current knowledge by assessing the effect of AI and KM on proactive green innovation while accounting for trust and sustainability as moderators. Utilizing quantitative methods offers a nuanced understanding of the complex interactions between these variables, thereby advancing theoretical knowledge in the fields of innovation management, sustainability and organizational behavior. Additionally, the identification of specific mechanisms and contextual factors enriches practical insights for organizational practitioners striving for a practical understanding of the dynamics of the complexities of sustainable innovation in an AI-driven era.
