Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to examine how two socio-historical contexts within the United States, the Movement for Black Lives and the COVID-19 pandemic, informed approaches to improving racial climate in science, technology, mathematics and engineering (STEM) graduate education.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors used a general qualitative inquiry research study design to conduct focus groups (n = 121) with graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty members from across STEM disciplines as well as administrators whose work involves STEM graduate students. Participants were from two US institutions involved in a National Science Foundation networked improvement community seeking to create inclusive environments for STEM graduate students.
Findings
This study demonstrates how these socio-historical contexts illuminated and amplified on-going efforts to address racial climate for graduate students in US-based graduate education. In response to these events, STEM faculty devoted time that otherwise might have gone to purely technical or scientific endeavors to addressing racial climate. However, some faculty members remain hesitant to address racial climate and efforts appear to have further waned over time. While diversity, inclusion and equity efforts came to the forefront of the collective consciousness during this time, participants worry that these efforts are not sustainable, particularly without support from faculty and administrators.
Practical implications
The findings from this study will inform efforts to improve racial climate in STEM graduate programs.
Originality/value
This study fills an identified need to capture how socio-historical contexts, like the US Movement for Black Lives and the COVID-19 pandemic, have influenced approaches to improving racial climate in STEM graduate programs.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper investigates how Indonesian regional government-owned enterprises disclose what they plan, account for and report their sustainable development goal (SDG) contributions, showcasing their commitment in attaining impactful SDG achievement. In doing so, it aims to highlight how adopting a sustainability accounting and reporting (SAR) framework can enhance SDG disclosures.
Design/methodology/approach
Content analysis, guided by an adapted SAR framework, is employed to examine the SDG disclosures across planning, accounting and reporting in 2019–2020 annual/sustainability reports of the 24 enterprises.
Findings
Most Indonesian regional government-owned enterprises or badan usaha milik daerah (BUMDs) studied adhered primarily to Financial Services Authority Regulation (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan (OJK)) 51/2017, which does not sufficiently enforce SDG disclosures in the planning stage. They disclosed SDG-related activities in the accounting and reporting stages, highlighting programme implementation and budget realisation with little emphasis on strategic planning. This resulted in inadequate evidence in the disclosures of the strategic actions to comprehensively plan, account for and report their SDG achievement, essential information for stakeholders to showcase their meaningful actions to contribute to national and global SDG progress.
Originality/value
Prior SDG disclosure studies highly focus on analysing the linkages of organisations’ reported sustainability programmes contributing to national SDG achievements, neglecting the investigation of how organisation should employ SAR to disclose what they plan, account for and report their impactful SDG contribution to stakeholders. This paper addresses this underexplored context, particularly in local government-owned enterprises which have a crucial role in accelerating SDG achievement. Given the global nature of SDGs, this analysis provides valuable lessons for organisations and regulators in Indonesia and other developing countries to utilise SAR to enhance SDG reporting. So that, they can better plan, account for and report tangible actions toward meaningful SDG achievement.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to explore how GenAI can help companies achieve a higher level of hyper-segmentation and hyper-personalization in the tourism industry, as well as show the importance of this disruptive tool for tourism marketing.
Design/methodology/approach
This paper used the Web of Science and Google Scholar databases to provide updated studies and expert authors to explore GenAI in the tourism industry. Analysing hyper-segmentation and hyper-personalization modalities through GenAI and their new challenges for tourists, tourism cities and companies.
Findings
Findings reveal that GenAI technology exponentially improves consumers’ segmentation and personalization of products and services, allowing tourism cities and organizations to create tailored content in real-time. That is why the concept of hyper-segmentation is substantially focused on the customer (understood as a segment of one) and his or her preferences, needs, personal motivations and purchase antecedents, and it encourages companies to design tailored products and services with a high level of individual scalability and performance called hyper-personalization, never before seen in the tourism industry. Indeed, contextualizing the experience through GenAI is an important way to enhance personalization.
Originality/value
This paper also contributes to enhancing and bootstrapping the literature on GenAI in the tourism industry because it is a new field of study, and its functional operability is in an incubation stage. Moreover, this viewpoint can facilitate researchers and companies to successfully integrate GenAI into different tourism and travel activities without expecting utopian results. Recently, there have been no studies that tackle hyper-segmentation and hyper-personalization methodologies through GenAI in the tourism industry.

Abstract
Purpose
Based on the principles of the social capital theory (SCT), this study aimed to generate hypotheses and evaluate a mediated moderated model that examined the impact of social capital on online brand community happiness (OBCH).
Design/methodology/approach
Using 215 online questionnaires from users of private online brand communities (OBCs) , researchers examined the hypothesized connections between variables. The SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 26.0 were applied to fulfill the purpose.
Findings
For the goodness of model fit, the authors have applied cut off criteria for fit indexes given by Hu and Bentler (1999) and model-fit measures indicators, i.e. CMIN/DF 1.397, CFI 0.958, SRMR 0.045, RMSEA 0.043 and PCLOSE 0.866, which meet the minimum acceptable criteria. Based on the results, social capital significantly affects psychological well-being (PWB), which, consequently, leads toward increased happiness among OBCs. Furthermore, membership duration moderates the relationship between PWB and OBCs.
Research limitations/implications
The authors have utilized a cross-sectional research design, and it limits the researcher’s ability to generalize the findings. These findings imply how social capital leverages PWB and OBCH. Moreover, the presence of membership duration helps to understand that members who spend more time in the community are happier in the OBCs.
Practical implications
In this age of social media, it provides valuable guidance to the administrators of private Facebook groups dedicated to specific brands, enhancing the definition and development of OBC operations and community interactions.
Originality/value
This research takes a broader look at social capital’s impact on happiness among private OBCs. The current research contributes to the existing body of work by emphasizing the role of PWB in generating happiness. The study is novel in examining the mediating moderating model of PWB and membership duration to explore deep insights for social media platforms.
