THE Classification of Technology has long been a fruitful source of controversy and discussion, and the problems presented by such discussions are becoming more prominent every day and are among the most interesting to the librarian with a speculative turn of mind. Dr. Richardson in his synthesis of classification arrives at the conclusion that the order of knowledge is the order of things, and that the order of classification is the order of things. Therefore the correct order or arrangement of Technology should follow the same order as that placed before us by Dr. Richardson. To make provision for the better and more systematic classification of Technology for the student and craftsman is the office and responsibility of the librarian.

Abstract
Channels of distribution are basic to the marketing strategies of firms, and have been shown to be a key element in the marketing mix. The author here undertakes a comprehensive review of channels literature, primarily to identify and assess the adequacy of the various mainstream conceptual schemes which have emerged. Economic‐based arguments have largely been at the core of channels literature, although these have been partially offset by the concepts of the organisational and behavioural schools. The author concludes that whereas every conceptual approach reviewed has added something to our cumulative knowledge, no single approach has yet reached a point of adequate conceptualisation based on his own basic criteria. As yet channels literature is mainly descriptive, and has virtually no predictive power.

Any scheme whereby the treasures of a public reference library are made more widely known is sure of the sympathetic consideration of all serious librarians, for it is a lamentable fact that reference libraries generally, and especially those in the provinces, are very sparingly appreciated. Their primary function is largely defeated by the ignorance of those most likely to be benefited. Our readers are now preparing for the Southport Conference, which, offers an opportunity for reviewing the present curious position of the library profession. We have had crises in the past, but none perhaps quite so acute as the present, because no one knows where we are drifting. We understand that Mr. Fisher has invited the Library Association to submit our views on the proposed legislative (or other) changes, and possibly the Association will now express itself. Our past experience of educationists leads us to think that it will be unwise to oppose close co‐operation, or even coalescence, with education authorities—that, in short, they “will absorb us whether we like it or not—at least in some way. If we can preserve a certain independence of action and of status we shall perhaps not suffer to much as will be the case if we are placed entirely under the local education committees, and if the library committees become merely sub‐committees of the larger bodies.

The Central Electricity Generating Board is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 233 Generating Stations, 602 Transmission Sub‐Stations, 7,780 miles of Overhead and 602 miles of Underground Transmission Lines. The current building and reinforcement programme is involving considerable financial and technical investment. To support this investment, part of the Board's policy is to promote the issue of Standards and Specifications with the object of controlling quality and the consequent reduction of maintenance down times. The contribution to this policy by incorporating anti‐corrosion techniques in Steel Structures Standards and Specifications can be considerable. Ultimately, of course, maintenance becomes a necessity and for this purpose the Standards and Specifications produced extend themselves to the materials used, principally paint, with the object of reducing maintenance periods to a minimum.

In 1968, Garrett Hardin identified a class of common goods that suffer under traditional market mechanisms. As a result, institutions become pivotal in defining acceptable consumption behavior. This paper describes the results of an agent-based computer simulation used to study how institutional forces shape consumption patterns. The results suggest common-interested behaviors support a greater population at a higher quality of living; however, exclusively common-interested behaviors result in underutilized commons, and the whole is generally less well off. Overall, when populations generally act in the common-interest, the commons, the population and individuals all experience higher quality outcomes than when they act in generally or exclusively self-interested ways. The paper frames further applications in terms of managing growth for long-term sustainability.

Abstract
The ability of tourism regions to attract tourists depends to a great extent on the position of these destinations in the minds of key travel markets. The projection of an appropriate image has been described as a vital element in the positioning process. This research examines the evolving character of wine tourism destination imagery as projected by wine producers and independent writers. The overriding research questions addressed in this paper are “What destination attributes are emphasised in the visual imagery of wine tourism regions, and how has the emphasis on those features varied over time?” The findings suggest that there has been a shift in wine country imagery from an emphasis on wine production processes and related facilities to move of a focus on aesthetic and experiential values associated with more leisurely recreational and tourist pursuits. Over the past decade, the wine tourism experience has become more positioned around the core attraction of a quality wine, accompanied by a set of natural landscape, culinary, educational, event hosting and cultural dimensions. The research identifies the need for a greater emphasis to be placed by wine tourism destinations on protecting rural landscapes, encouraging authentic and unique forms of development, and focusing imagery projection on those elements of the wine country experience which are central to the interests of wine tourists.

Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to describe a comparative study of the perceptions of users and non-users of an early contact tracing application helping to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The unprecedented incidence of this disease warrants investigating theoretically the use of mobile contact tracing applications as a promising approach to curtail its transmission.
Design/methodology/approach
A consumption value-based model of the adoption and use of a contact tracing mobile application was built and tested through a cross-sectional survey conducted with 2 samples (of 309 already users and 306 non-users) in the Province of Alberta, Canada.
Findings
Utilitarian and social values together with health information seeking and perceived critical mass drive the use of the application while perceived privacy risk is an obstacle to usage for both users and non-users.
Research limitations/implications
Study participants self-assessed their risk category of potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus, and this was a subjective measure including an emotional component.
Practical implications
No major differences in the approaches targeting users and non-users of a mobile contact tracing application to encourage its adoption and use are necessary.
Social implications
Additional efforts are required to convey to people information on the benefits and current rate of use of such an application and to mitigate privacy risk concerns.
Originality/value
Overall, the study offers theoretical and practical contributions that may help improve the adoption and usage of contact tracing applications addressing the COVID-19 pandemic or other possible public health crises.

Abstract
Many machining researches are focused on cutting tools mainly due to the wear developed as a result of high temperatures generated that accelerate thermally related wear mechanisms, consequently reducing tool life. Cutting fluids are used in machining operations to minimize cutting temperature although there is no available indicator of their cooling ability. In this study, a method to determine the cooling ability of cutting fluids is proposed. A thermocouple technique was used to verify the chip‐tool interface temperature of various cutting fluids during turning operation. The method consists of measuring the temperature drop from 300°C up to room temperature after heating a standardised AISI 8640 workpiece and fixing it to the chuck of a lathe and with a constant spindle speed of 150 rpm the cutting fluid was applied to a specific point. The temperature was measured and registered by an infrared thermosensor with the aid of an AC/DC data acquisition board and a PC. The convective heat exchange coefficient, h, was determined and used to classify the cooling ability of the cutting fluids. The machining tests showed that the application of the fluid with better cooling ability will not always guarantee lower chip‐tool interface temperature.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper studies a concept for protecting vulnerable population groups during pandemics using direct home deliveries of essential supplies, from a distribution logistics perspective. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate feasible and resource-efficient home delivery strategies, including collaboration between retailers and logistics service providers based on a practical application.
Design/methodology/approach
A food home delivery concept in urban areas during pandemics is mathematically modeled. All seniors living in a district of Berlin, Germany, represent the vulnerable population supplied by a grocery distribution center. A capacitated vehicle routing problem (CVRP) is developed in combination with a k-means clustering algorithm. To manage this large-scale problem efficiently, mixed-integer programming (MIP) is used. The impact of collaboration and additional delivery scenarios is examined with a sensitivity analysis.
Findings
Roughly 45 medically vulnerable persons can be served by one delivery vehicle in the baseline scenario. Operational measures allow a drastic decrease in required resources by reducing service quality. In this way, home delivery for the vulnerable population of Berlin can be achieved. This requires collaboration between grocery and parcel services and public authorities as well as overcoming accompanying challenges.
Originality/value
Developing a home delivery concept for providing essential goods to urban vulnerable groups during pandemics creates a special value. Setting a large-scale CVRP with variable fleet size in combination with a clustering algorithm contributes to the originality.
