Abstract

Purpose

The current work investigates an unsteady squeezed flow of hybrid-nanofluid between two parallel plates in occurrence with a uniform transverse magnetic field. Water is used as base fluid mixed with Graphene Oxide (GO) and Copper (Cu) nanoparticles. The flow considered here is under slip boundary conditions.

Design/methodology/approach

The governing PDEs are transmuted into ODEs by applying an appropriate similarity transformation and then solved numerically using the 4th order R-K method with shooting technique. Graphical illustrations for velocity, temperature, entropy generation (NG), Bejan number (Be), streamline etc. are presented and discussed in detail from the physical point of view. The nature of the Nusselt number is also studied numerically through contour plots for different flow parameters.

Findings

There is no funding obtained for the research work.

Social implications

This kind of study may be used in various fields including polymer processing, lubrication apparatus, compression including hydrodynamical machines compression, food processing etc.

Originality/value

It is observed that very little investigation has yet been made about the movement of hybrid nanofluid between two analogous plates.

Abstract

Purpose

Several graphs, streamlines, isotherms and 3D plots are illustrated to enlighten the noteworthy fallouts of the investigation. Embedding flow factors for velocity, induced magnetic field and temperature have been determined using parametric analysis.

Design/methodology/approach

Ternary hybrid nanofluids has outstanding hydrothermal performance compared to classical mono nanofluids and hybrid nanofluids owing to the presence of triple tiny metallic particles. Ternary hybrid nanofluids are considered as most promising candidates in solar energy, heat exchangers, electronics cooling, automotive cooling, nuclear reactors, automobile, aerospace, biomedical devices, food processing etc. In this work, a ternary hybrid nanofluid flow that contains metallic nanoparticles over a wedge under the prevalence of solar radiating heat, induced magnetic field and the shape factor of nanoparticles is considered. A ternary hybrid nanofluid is synthesized by dispersing iron oxide (Fe3O4), silver (Ag) and magnesium oxide (MgO) nanoparticles in a water (H2O) base fluid. By employing similarity transformations, we can convert the governing equations into ordinary differential equations and then solve numerically by using the Runge–Kutta–Fehlberg approach.

Findings

There is no fund for the research work.

Social implications

This kind of study may be used to improve the performance of solar collectors, solar energy and solar cells.

Originality/value

This investigation unfolds the hydrothermal changes of radiative water-based Fe3O4-Ag-MgO-H2O ternary hybrid nanofluidic transport past a static and moving wedge in the presence of solar radiating heating and induced magnetic fields. The shape factor of nanoparticles has been considered in this study.

Abstract

Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of public expenditure on economic growth and poverty alleviation in developing countries like India. If poverty and inequality are high, the government may resort to distributive policies at the cost of long-term growth. The distributive policies and poverty alleviation measures fail to achieve success due to lack of good governance, lack of proper targeting and problems in the implementation of such schemes. On the other hand, if the nature of public expenditure is such that it enhances per capita income, it will help reduce poverty.

Design/methodology/approach

After analytical digression and construction of hypotheses panel regression has been done using state-level data in the Indian context to empirically verify the above propositions. Both Fixed effects and Random effects models have been used for this purpose.

Findings

The results show that in states where ratio of public expenditure on the development of infrastructure such as road, irrigation, power, transport and communication is higher, per capita income is also higher and incidence of poverty is lower indicating that economic growth is important for poverty alleviation and development of infrastructure is necessary for growth.

Originality/value

This study demonstrates how public policy and public finance can be used as instruments for removal of poverty.

Abstract

Purpose

This study aims to explore the effect of mass media exposure on women contraceptive adoption. The intent was to show how factors affected contraceptive use, such as education, standards of living, etc., behave differently across the poverty line.

Design/methodology/approach

Logistic regression was used to test the effect of exposure of various mass media on contraceptive adoption. Indian Human Development Survey (2005) was used for the analysis. Analysis was performed to compare results across the poverty line.

Findings

Television exposure was found to be significant, and it had a strong effect on the likelihood that the family uses contraceptives. Newspaper readership was found significant above the poverty line and insignificant below.

Research limitations/implications

The present study only analyzes cross-sectional data. A longitudinal study would be better suited to determine how these factors affect contraceptive use over time.

Practical implications

The findings of this study can be useful in designing more effective media mix for the communications aimed at increasing contraceptive use in India.

Social implications

The findings show the divide between the population segments above and below the poverty line. Low education levels, affordability issues and son preferences are the major factors deterring contraceptive use at this level.

Originality/value

This is the first study to separately study the population samples across the poverty line. Compared to previous studies which focuses heavily on one media, this analysis includes other media variables and focuses on a variation of these factors across the poverty line.
