Abstract
For those arriving in Paris the weekend before Pronic, what could almost be described as a holiday atmosphere prevailed. The visit by the Prince and Princess of Wales had left its mark in the proliferation of front‐page features of ‘Lady Di’ displayed on news stands. The Champs Elysées looked elegant and resplendent with a profusion of French tricolours marking the royal visit combined with commemoration of Armistice Day. Autumn sunshine—and green leaves still on the trees—brought throngs of Parisians onto the streets. At present the Arc de Triomphe is closed to the public for cleaning and restoration, but on 11 November there was the unique opportunity, taken by lengthy queues of people, to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior and view the floral wreaths laid there during the commemorative ceremony.

Abstract
A second summer visit to Germany in July took Circuit World to another large, well‐established company of high repute in the electronics industry—Schoeller & Co. Elektronik GmbH. The plant visited was the company's headquarters in Wetter, located some 100 kilometres north of Frankfurt and west of the university town of Marburg in Hessen. The factory is on the outskirts of Wetter, thus enjoying a peaceful rural setting. A second German production facility is situated at Grassau, near the Austrian border, while the company's third production plant is in Singapore and trades under the Degussa banner.

Abstract
To ‘report’ on this year's Internepcon, 14–16 March, at the NEC, Birmingham, is going to prove more difficult than anticipated. The average journalist would report on such an event—whether as a eulogy or critique—from the standpoint of the visitor, having time to saunter up and down the aisles, amass briefcasefuls of press releases, sniff out the genuinely new products from those merely flaunting a ‘New’ label, interrogate the occasional exhibitor regarding impressions, etc. Well, I too had hoped to follow this format, anticipating the occasional lull in activity. However, as an exhibitor, I found little opportunity to ‘escape’ from the Circuit World stand—even on Wednesday when I had the assistance of a colleague to share ‘booth‐duty’ (pardon the Americanism). This surely speaks volumes for the increased success of this year's event. Numbers of visitors undoubtedly seemed to be higher than in recent years. Of course, we should compare like with like and check this year's attendance figures against the figures for the last combined Packaging and Production Show held in Brighton in 1985. Even that comparison is not entirely valid either, as this year saw for the first time the running of Semiconductor International concurrently with the combined Internepcon Show and under exactly the same roof in Hall 5.

Abstract
The opportunity earlier this year to gain a more complete picture of production operations at the LEITRON printed circuit board manufacturing facility in the vicinity of Schwäbisch Gmünd proved to be an enlightening, interesting and enjoyable experience. More time would have been needed to explore to advantage the town itself which dates back to the 7th century, as well as the attractively unspoilt surrounding area.

Abstract
The Jutland peninsula is the only part of Denmark attached to the continent of Europe, its Southern boundary constituting the Danish/German frontier. About one‐tenth of the peninsula consists of moors and sand dunes, the latter found predominantly along the West coast, while the remaining nine‐tenths is devoted to agriculture and, to a lesser extent, forestry. On the East side, at intervals, picturesque wooded fjords run for miles inland.

Abstract
With a record of human occupancy for over 10,000 years, the Indian Wells Valley where Ridgecrest is located has long had much to offer casual and experienced desert visitors alike. Ghost‐towns from earlier active gold mining days, fossilised waterfalls, sculptured rock formations, desert tortoises, hiking trails against a High Sierra backdrop feature among the attractions of the area.

Abstract
FRIDAY, December 11, 1992 — While hordes of headline‐seeking journalists at Holyrood Palace competed for the latest scoop on the Edinburgh Summit, it was pleasant to travel west to the calmer setting of Quarriers Village in Renfrewshire. Success was claimed as the outcome of the Summit. Another success story is reflected in the growth and performance of the still fairly young but thriving company Teknek Electronics Ltd. Success in a period of inescapable gloom for the electronics industry is all the more newsworthy. It should also offer a glimmer of optimism to an industry where hope and enthusiasm appear dampened, if not extinguished, by successive recession‐related blows.
