AT Manchester Business School the management course lasts for 12 weeks: most people on it work for at least 12 hours a day, and carry on through alternate week‐ends. We are continually discussing and modifying its detailed objectives and last September we altered the programme quite radically. The course members are astonishingly diverse, able and energetic. As I cannot possibly give a comprehensive account of the course in the space the Editor has allowed me, I shall instead answer a series of typical questions put by someone interested in the course.

At a recent inquest upon the body of a woman who was alleged to have died as the result of taking certain drugs for an improper purpose, one of the witnesses described himself as “an analyst and manufacturing chemist,” but when asked by the coroner what qualifications he had, he replied : “I have no qualifications whatever. What I know I learned from my father, who was a well‐known ‘F.C.S.’” Comment on the “F.C.S.” is needless.
