Chores
Why is it that some important tasks that I have to complete as part of my job are exciting and others – no less important – are just chores. Does one have to accept that "rough" goes with "smooth"? Will it be better when I grow up? This all started because I have just been shortlisting for a senior post in my department. This is vital – I need someone who is competent and who I can trust to get on with things. So I am looking for someone who meets a clear, employee specification that I have constructed to meet the demands of the post. The candidates have all had this employee specification yet at least half of them show no evidence in their application of having seen it. Such candidates – who do not show how they meet the qualities required for this job are very unlikely to be seriously considered. If they can't put in the effort at this stage … it doesn't bode well for them if they were to be appointed.
