Managing and preserving e-records

The business change process is the fundamental aspect of Modernising Government target of 2004. Moving towards full electronic records management offers business benefits for the organisation as a whole, for citizens and businesses using services, and for users (through more effective and innovative ways of working).

Evaluating records

Key issues in the appraisal of records are that:

  • appraisal needs to be transparent;

  • appraisal needs to be a partnership approach (drawing more on expertise in government departments, developing relationships with other archives, etc.); and

  • the new approach needs to consider functions and record keeping structures rather than just types of records.
