Growth is unexpected

Growth is unexpected

And on the same subject, the growth of text messaging has been astronomical – and largely unexpected. Recently, the number of messages in a month exceeded the number of voice calls on mobile phones for the first time. There are now a number of services that will allow you to send messages for free (assuming you get Internet access for free, that is). This is yet another example of the great and the good, the real businessmen, missing out on a market. The demand for text messaging was entirely bottom-up – it emerged rather than was created. This kind of event – where the best planning misses, and serendipity hits – always reassures me. It is also good to remind ourselves that there are always factors that we leave out of equations that squeeze themselves back in!
