The Council for Administration, the national training organisation for administration in the UK, has been awarded £10,000 by FEDA, the research and development agency dealing with post-16 education and training. The money is to help build links between GNVQ (General National and Vocational Qualifications) centres in schools and colleges and employers who offer modern apprenticeships and national traineeships. The money is being used by CfA to test a new way for young people to move from a GNVQ in business to modern apprenticeship or national traineeship. The student begins a relationship with an employer early on in their school or college career and when they have completed their GNVQ, they move directly onto a national training programme. Chris Hughes, chief executive of FEDA, said at the launch of the scheme: "Employers still know too little about GNVQs and sometimes overlook young people who hold them. It is time employers recognised GNVQs for what they are. They prepare young people for work and stretch them academically. GNVQs help turn young people into employable adults."
