ABBE and RICS launch new non-domestic energy qualifications

Article Type: Newsbriefs From: Structural Survey, Volume 26, Issue 5

Keywords: Energy assessment, Qualifications

The Awarding Body for the Built Environment (ABBE) and RICS have both launched qualifications, aimed at professionals and others interested in working in the field of non-domestic energy assessment. The vocational qualifications are at Levels 3 and 4, which qualify practitioners to carry out assessments of the energy efficiency and carbon emissions of commercial buildings. Since April 2008, the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EBPD) has required larger more complex non-domestic properties to have Energy Performance Certificates, subject to floor area. With a further 65 per cent of the commercial property stock requiring Energy Performance Certificates from July 2008, there is a growing potential market for qualified non-domestic energy assessors.
