Article Type: Web sites, patent abstracts and book review From: Sensor Review, Volume 31, Issue 3
Center for Terahertz Research
This is the web site for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Center for Terahertz Research, where world leading scientists are creating innovative imaging and sensing technologies that hold enormous potential in biomedical imaging, genetics diagnostics, microelectronics, and the chemical and biological materials identification fields.
The center’s easy to navigate and informative site is comprised of five main pages: about us; research, which provides further links on the center’s four labs – THz Optoelectronics, THz Electronics, THz Quantum Optics, and THz Spectroscopy; Faculty; What’s new; and the THz Research Center’s list of equipment.
Diamond Detectors
Diamond Detectors is a UK limited company founded in 2007 that designs, develops, and manufactures diamond detectors and electro-chemical sensor solutions for high-energy physics, nuclear monitoring, radiotherapy, and dosimetry.
Upon hitting the “go” button on the homepage, the user enters the site, which contains further information on the company, research and development, and products.
Bio-Inspired Sensors and Optoelectronics Laboratory
The Bio-inspired Sensors and Optoelectronics Lab (BISOL) at Northwestern University focuses on producing novel photonics and optoelectronic devices inspired by nature.
BISOL’s homepage highlights news and announcements, along with a video of a televised interview. The rest of this comprehensive site features details on the lab’s members, publications, job openings, photos, and research.
The research link delineates the lab’s various interests with a description of the motivation and results for each of its: infrared imagers; detectors and biosensors; novel metamaterials and plasmonics; nano-scale lasers; single photon detectors; electrooptical modulators; photonic integrated circuits and nano-photonics. A bar on the left of the research page lists the funding for BISOL.
Nucsafe
Nucsafe, a US-based company, is dedicated to providing high performance radiation detection instruments to the nuclear safeguards industry, law enforcement and federal agencies tasked with protecting public security.
Nucsafe’s state-of-the-art homepage features a flash banner of high-resolution images, as well as a link to its catalog and careers. The rest of this thorough web site contains in depth material on its technology which includes useful information on why and how radiation detection works; its four general categories of products – stationary, transportable, portable, and handheld radiation monitoring systems; service and support; company; news; and employment.
