Industrial inspection cuts costs in half X-ray, online 3D 100 per cent industrial inspection

Article Type: New products From: Sensor Review, Volume 28, Issue 3

X-line from 3DX-ray (Figure 1), is a new-type of low-cost X-ray system for online, 100 per cent industrial inspection of mass-produced items. It checks the internal contents, 3D-position, size, volume and alignment of a complex assemblage of components in a finished product to an accuracy equivalent to the width of a human hair.

Owing to its innovative technology, it does away with the need for conventional, expensive, panel X-ray detectors, replacing them with an advanced line-scan X-ray system, which means it costs around half the price of standard X-ray inspection equipment.

The system is fully automated and can make real-time pass/fail decisions for 100 per cent of the production output. It is easily integrated into a production line’s QC, SPC, SCADA or control system.

X-line provides precise real-time checks, on intermeshing components as well as providing accurate measurements of length, area, angle and position. It does this at production line speeds up to 80 m/min, even in difficult situations such as when components are housed inside products manunfactured from similar or denser materials, e.g. plastic cogs inside a plastic or metal casing.

To prevent expensive product recalls and avoid product liability issues, today’s industry demands that products are fault-free. Functional testing can show the presence of an obvious fault, but may pass over the threat of latent errors. The 3D X-line technology now allows you to check against even these latent problems.
