Versatile mounting options for ultra-miniature level sensors

Carlo Gavazzi has introduced new, low- profile capacitive level sensors that can be attached to virtually any mounting, including small diameter pipes.
Just 5.5 mm thick, the new sensor can be mounted directly on non-metallic surfaces, and features a retaining strap mechanism as well as conventional mounting holes, for secure mounting in all situations. The sensor can also be fitted in a recess, for example, within a vessel wall, using countersunk screws (Plate 2).

Their extremely small size combines with unique Carlo Gavazzi techniques to enhance reliability, accuracy and user-friendliness. These include Tripleshield™ technology, which protects the operation of the sensor against noise such as electrical interference, high voltage slatic and mobile phone signals. This technology gives the sensors high built in immunity against wire borne and airborne noise as well as static discharges. These are particularly prevalent for capacitive sensors in level monitoring. IP68-level sealing is also provided, to prevent moisture and particulate ingress. Teach-in function, allowing it to be quickly set-up to ignore a non- conductive foreground medium, and to detect an item behind the foreground. Teach-in is performed using a push- button on the top of the sensor or remotely via a fourth wire connection.
These sensors are also flexible, being based on microprocessor technology that is both user-friendly and allows the sensor to be easily customised to meet special requirements.
By being able to detect a wide range of materials, including those behind a non-conductive material, such as glass behind cardboard, the capacitive level sensor is suitable for a wide range of industrial processes, including bottling and other packaging processes, automated assembly, or automated recycling. It is also possible to apply this product in a wide variety of level sensing situations due to their small size and easy mounting, including heating and cooling systems, air conditioning, and industrial machines with reservoirs of lubrication and coolants.
