This book discusses the physical modelling of mechatronic sensors and actuators and their precise numerical simulation using the finite element method (FEM). It addresses both physical modelling and numerical computation and is suitable for students and researchers in mechatronics, electrical and mechanical engineering.

After an introductory chapter, the FEM is presented along with methods for computer‐based FEM implementation. The following three chapters address Mechanical Fields, Electromagnetic Fields, and Acoustic Fields.

Chapter 6 covers Coupled Electrostatics, while Chapter 7 discusses Mechanical Systems.

Chapters 8 and 9 discuss Coupled Magnetomechanical Systems and Coupled Mechanical Systems. Acoustic, and Piezoelectric Systems are addressed in the following two chapters.

Chapter 12 discusses Multigrid Solvers, while Chapter 13, Industrial Applications, provides clear demonstrations the importance of numerical simulation for industry. The final chapter of the book gives a Summary and Outlook.

“Numerical Simulation of Mechatronic Sensors and Actuators” is another well‐written reference text which helps to illustrate the potential of using the FEM in sensor and actuator design.
