Matsushita Electric Works is happy to announce the availability of its new series of adjustable range and fixed focus reflective photoelectric sensors – the EQ-500 series. Aimed at applications where the target varies in colour, angle of presentation or size the EQ- 500 provides a reliable and accurate solution to sensing these difficult to detect objects (Plate 8).

Plate 8 EQ-500 series applications include people detection

Rated at IP67 the EQ-500 is multi-voltage and will operate with a supply of 12-240 V AC/DC. Other benefits include a long sensing range of 0.2-2.5 m and background suppression to eliminate triggering on objects that are outside the preset detection area.

The devices themselves automatically eliminate interference between adjacent sensors and the EQ-500 series is even able to produce consistent detection when the sensor's lens has become contaminated with dust or debris.

Typical applications include people detection for counting and for triggering actions like operating automatic doors. In this case, accurate sensing is guaranteed even for different coloured clothing or height variations.

The EQ-500 is available in two versions: standard or with a convenient timer function that allows ON/OFF delays up to 5s to be set. Available accessories include a foot/back angled mounting bracket.
