The new SICK DME5000 distance measuring sensor, with its outstanding dynamic characteristics, high speed operation and accurate measurement capabilities, is the ideal solution for demanding measurement and positioning applications (Plate 6).
A fully programmable, non-contact, laser system, it is ideally suited to high-speed stacker crane positioning applications in the warehousing, storage and logistics industries.
The easy to use, illuminated display enables the multi-functional switching outputs and inputs to be quickly programmed and their status viewed. It also enables Profibus or SSI parameters to be configured.

Alignment of the unit is by means of the versatile mounting bracket, which has slotted fixings and an adjustable base, allowing both vertical and horizontal adjustments to be made quickly and easily.
High performance comes as standard with the DME5000, which can measure distances up to 70 m (repeatable within 0.5 mm), or longer ranges up to 150 m (repeatable within 1 mm). High-speed operation is equally important and the DME5000 can provide a measurement value every 1 ms (2 ms on 150 m version). This makes it ideal for approach speeds of up to 10 m/s.
The standard unit is designed to operate within an ambient temperature range of +55° to 10°C. There is also the option of internal heating, which extends this range from +55° to 40°C, making it ideal for use in deep freeze storage systems.
The DME5000 is CSA and UL approved for global use and is the only device of its type to meet these standards.
