New directory of university gas sensor research

Keywords: Gas sensors

The Gas Analysis and Sensing Group (GASG) is the UK's focal point for individuals and companies with an interest in gas sensing and has just published the latest edition of its Directory of Gas Sensor Research at UK Universities. This 58-page document provides a list and review of gas sensor research and development activities between 1999 and 2002. It identifies the university groups and key workers, provides contact details and summarises their recent and prevailing R&D. In addition, data are provided on the gas species studied, group size, sources of funding and recent industrial collaborations. Five appendices cover the structure of the research activity, information on collaborations and commercial exploitation; and lists of the gas species, sensing techniques and technologies and the journals. The document concludes with a list of about 180 references.

During the study period, at least 52 groups from 36 universities have worked on gas sensors. Some groups ceased work since the publication of the first edition of this directory (1999) whilst others started; 18 groups are included here which did not feature in the previous edition. As of late 2002, the UK's gas sensor research effort involved around 200 workers in 47 groups at 34 universities.

The directory is available free of charge to GASG members, but can be purchased by non-members.
