Remote communication with field equipment up to 5km away is now possible with HBM's improved catman software. Data exchange rates of up to 100 Hz across eight channels is possible with measuring devices such as HBM's Spider8 (Plate 5).

The improved software establishes communication and download data automatically from the measuring device. In addition to the software, two commercially available modems are needed. One of these is connected to the Spider8 via its serial interface while the other is connected to the PC loaded with the catman software.

Plate 5 Remote data transfer between HBM's Spider8 and a PC is now possible at distances of up to 5 km using the improved catman measuring software

The system is intended for monitoring data remotely or in adverse conditions where manual checks may be difficult or impractical.

The Spider8 digital multi-channel data- acquisition system is installed on site and can be connected to all commercially available transducers. During remote operation either a power supply unit or an independent battery can be used for the 12 V power needed by the Spider8.
