Temperature specialist Hawco Ltd has launched a new range of silicone rubber surface heaters that the company claims can be custom-tailored to suit almost any application. Specially developed production techniques enable either fine resistance wires or etched foil to be positioned over an area of any shape or size (see Plate 9).

"The new technique offers a cost-effective way to provide even spacing of heating elements over an area of any shape," explains sales director Tony Berry. "This ensures a uniform distribution of warmth or heat over the entire design area." The method is a great advance over conventional ways of producing customised heating layouts, which have generally either been expensive or required design compromises.

The versatility of Hawco's surface heaters make them suitable for use in everything from protecting telecoms cabinets and external equipment such as CCTVs and ticket vending machines, to medical use for incubators and laboratory equipment, as well as high temperature applications such as catering displays.
