Elekon introduces the smallest and most cost-effective emitters and detectors for medical use (see Plates 3 and 4). Specially designed for medical applications, where selection of the peak or centroid wavelength is a strict requirement, the ELM series of emitters and EPM series of detectors can be combined to provide a complete assembly for use in pulse oximetry, glucometers, finger/ear probes and finger pickups and other non-invasive sensor applications.

The ELM series of emitters come in three versions, the ELM-3000 series, the ELM-4000 series and the ELM-5000 series. All three ELM series are available with peak or centroid wavelengths between 880nm and 950nm. The emission source material for the ELM series is GaAlAs in conjunction with GaAIP, complete with a clear epoxy lens. The ELM-3000 is available in a two- and three-lead ceramic packaging and the ELM-4000 comes in a three-lead plastic molded packaging. The ELM-5000 series comes in a four-lead plastic molded packaging, suitable for surface-mounting equipment.

Elekon's EPM series of detectors feature a spectral sensitivity from 400nm to 1,080nm, rise and fall times of 350nSec, and responsivity of greater than 0.28AW (when λ= 540nm). The EPM-2001 model comes in a two-lead ceramic packaging and the EPM-4001 comes in a two-lead molded plastic package.

The ELM-3000 series and the EPM-2001 series are spectrally matched, as are the ELM-4000 series and the EPM-4001 series.

Both the EPM and ELM series are available now through Elekon's network of distributors, value-added resellers and system integrators in Asia, the USA and Europe. Standard products start at under $10 (US) each in quantities of 1,000.
