Self-averaging pitot flowmeter is upgraded with new features for easier installation and wider application
Keyword: Flow
Solartron Mobrey's popular KB Series averaging flowmeter sensor is now available in a new version for small pipes from 12-50mm diameter (Plate 3). Further enhancements to the entire range include an optional integral three valve manifold and a unique safelock mounting mechanism, for simpler, safer, more reliable installation.
KB Series is based on a patented, square sensor design with multiple sensing ports for high accuracy (1 per cent) monitoring of liquid, gas and steam flows, across the pipe section. More versatile and easier to install than an orifice plate, averaging pitot technology produces a much reduced pressure loss, with significant energy savings as a result.
KB Series is used widely in flow monitoring applications such as power generation, gas transmission, water and waste processing and in heating and ventilation (HVAC). The addition of the new smaller pipe size version extends the benefits of the technology to many more general processing applications in pipe diameters from 12-1,825mm including food and beverage manufacture, pharmaceutical and chemical processing and bulk materials transportation.

Unique to the KB Series range is a new safelock mounting mechanism which pins the sensor against the wall of the pipe in a controlled manner and, in most cases, eliminates the need for an opposite-end support. The resulting installation is safer and more reliable than the traditional cantilevered construction.
A new integral three-valve manifold for the KB Series allows direct mounting of the pressure transmitter on the pipe installation, for easier, neater installation with less risk of leakage. Sensors are available on their own, or complete with a pre-mounted Solartron Mobrey 4301 pressure transmitter.
The upgraded KB Series is suitable for use in process temperatures of up to 400°C and has flanges rated to ANSI 1,500lb.
