BFI OPTiLAS has announced immediate availability of the NPP-301, a new range of surface mountable silicon pressure sensors from NovaSensorw, (a TRW company) (Plate 11). The NPP-301 device is an ultra- small silicon fusion bonded piezoresistive chip housed in a package that is designed to exploit high volume, leadframe package technology. BFI OPTiLAS can now offer OEMs a low cost sensor that is compatible with most non- corrosive gases and dry mr. The NPP-301 is ideal for use in applications such as automotive tyre pressure, pneumatic control, pressure switches and controllers, altimeters and barometers, cable leak detection, consumer appliances and portable gages and manometers. Featuring a wide operating temperature range of -40 to +125°C with a maximum static accuracy of <0.20 per cent FSO, the NPP-301 offers solid state reliability and is suitable for automated component assembly.

The NPP series is based on NovaSensor's advanced SenStablew piezoresistive sensing technology. Silicon micromachining techniques are used to ion implant piezoresistive strain gages into a Wheatstone bridge configuration for added circuit design flexibility. With constant voltage excitation, the NPP-301 produces a voltage output that is linearly proportional to the input pressure. The OEM can provide users with signal conditioning circuitry to amplify the output signal.
